Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between student collaboration and physics learning outcomes on the topic of motion among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Padangsidimpuan. A quantitative correlational method was applied with a sample of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Collaboration data were collected using a validated 25-item questionnaire, while learning outcomes were obtained from report scores related to motion concepts. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, linearity testing, and Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results show that student collaboration is categorized as high, with an average score of 95.47. Physics learning outcomes also fall into the high category, with an average score of 78.83. The correlation analysis revealed a strong and significant positive relationship between student collaboration and learning outcomes (r = 0.718; p < 0.01). The coefficient of determination indicates that collaboration contributes 51.6% to learning outcomes. This study highlights the essential role of collaborative learning in improving physics achievement in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of digital competence on students’ understanding of science concepts (IPA) in Grade VIII at SMP Negeri 1 Muara Batang Gadis for the 2024–2025 academic year. A quasi-experimental method was employed using a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Two classes were selected as samples, each consisting of 30 students. The experimental class received instruction integrated with digital competencies, while the control class followed a conventional learning approach. The research instruments included a science concept comprehension test and a digital competence questionnaire, analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results showed that the average posttest score in the experimental class was higher than in the control class, 82.33 versus 72.33, respectively. An independent sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of digital competence on science concept comprehension. It is concluded that the integration of digital competence in science learning significantly enhances students’ understanding of scientific concepts and supports 21st-century skill development.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model in enhancing students' interest and learning outcomes in science subjects at MTs NU Batahan. The research was conducted in two cycles, utilizing a quantitative approach for data collection through observations, questionnaires, and assessments. The findings revealed a significant increase in student engagement, rising from 75% in Cycle 1 to 90% in Cycle 2. Additionally, positive feedback from students improved from 70% to 90%. Observations indicated enhanced interaction among students and notable improvements in their discussion skills. The implementation of the TGT model not only fostered a collaborative learning environment but also encouraged students to take greater responsibility for their learning. This research provides evidence supporting the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies, particularly the TGT model, in creating a more active and engaging classroom atmosphere. The results highlight the importance of innovative teaching methods in improving both students' motivation and academic performance in science education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the profile of scientific literacy skills of VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Batahan in physics learning on simple machines material reviewed from context, content, and science process aspects. This descriptive quantitative research used a sample of 32 students from class VIII-A selected through cluster sampling. The data collection instrument was a scientific literacy test consisting of 8 multiple choice questions and 4 essay questions based on the PISA 2015 framework. The results showed that students' overall scientific literacy ability was at a moderate category with an average percentage of 56.38%. Based on per-aspect analysis, the context aspect obtained the highest percentage of 64.06% (moderate category), followed by the content aspect at 60.11% (moderate category), and the science process aspect at 47.56% (low category). The low science process ability reflects the lack of inquiry and practicum activities in physics learning. This study concludes that there is an imbalance in students' scientific literacy development with the pattern: Context > Content > Science Process, so a reorientation of physics learning towards more comprehensive development of students' scientific skills is needed.
