Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS 1. COVID-19 raises concern in regard with its effect on pregnancy.2. The serological descriptions of umbilical cord of neonates born from mothers suffering from COVID-19 were identified.3. Most of the serology was non-reactive IgG and IgM, followed was reactive IgG and the least was the reactive IgM.   ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the serological description of the neonatal umbilical cord in COVID-19 mothers confirmed by RT-PCR at Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat (RSUP) H. Adam Malik Medan in January-June 2021. Materials and Methods: This study was an observational study with a case series approach where the cases were mothers infected with SARS CoV-2 confirmed by RT-PCR. The study was conducted at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Hospital Laboratory and RSUP H. Adam Malik for 6 months, from January 2021 to June 2021. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. If the data were normally distributed, they were presented as mean + SD; otherwise, they were presented as median (min-max) for each variable. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22.0 (IBM SPSS Corp.; Armonk, NY, USA) was used for statistical analysis. Results: Neonatal umbilical cord serology results (IgM and IgG) were predominantly non-reactive, where IgM was non-reactive in 43 neonates (97.7%) and IgG was non-reactive in 37 neonates (84.1%). In mothers without COVID-19 symptoms, neonate umbilical cord serology results were dominated by non-reactive IgM (88.6%) and IgG (79.5%). In mothers who recovered from COVID-19, neonate umbilical cord serology results were also dominated by non-reactive IgM (95.5%) and IgG (81.8%). Conclusion: The neonatal umbilical cord serology results from the mother confirmed with positive COVID-19 were nonreactive IgG and IgM in the majority of 35 (79%) samples, reactive IgG in 7 (15.9%), and reactive IgM in 1 (2%) sample.

Abstract

Health development is an investment in boosting human resource quality. In order to accomplish the desired health development, the family planning program is an excellent strategy to promote family resilience, health, and safety for mothers, children, and women. The IUD is a safe, effective, and low-risk contraception. The purpose of this study is to identify the variables related with women of reproductive age using IUD contraception. This study employed an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design. The population were 1,071 people, and the sample was 91 people taken by using incidental sampling. A questionnaire was employed as the measuring method, with univariate data analysis, bivariate with chi square, and multivariate testing. The results of this study were obtained from 91 respondents who used IUDs, 29 respondents (31.87%) and non-IUDs, 62 respondents (68.13%). Variable knowledge about side effects (p-value=0.000), experience of use (p-value=0.001), culture, traditions and beliefs (p-value=0.006), where to obtain family planning services (p-value=0.007) and support from health workers (p-value=0.000) has a relationship with the participation of women of childbearing age in the use of IUD contraception. The most significant variables in the use of IUD contraception included varying awareness about adverse effects, culture, customs, and beliefs, and support from health personnel. The variables that most affect the involvement of women of reproductive age in the use of IUD family planning are health worker support, culture, traditions, and beliefs, and understanding of adverse effects. It is recommended that health professionals assist in increasing the use of the IUD as an effective and efficient contraception

Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS Testosterone level correlates with FSFI score, showing that sexual function correlates with hormonal physiology. FSFI is a valid and useful tool in measuring sexual function.   ABSTRACT Objective: This research aimed to analyze the correlation between testosterone levels and sexual function in postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods: This research was a descriptive observational study with a case series approach conducted at Aras Kabu Health Center Outpatient Polyclinic from May to August 2022. The normality test was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk test. If the data were not normally distributed, data would be analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. If the data were normally distributed, the data analysis would use the Pearson correlation test. Results: There was a significant relationship between Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) score with testosterone levels and duration of menopause with p<0.05. The degree of correlation found was 0.619 between testosterone levels and FSFI scores, indicating a moderate and significant positive correlation. A correlation degree of 0.482 was found between FSFI and length of menopause which indicated a significant moderate positive correlation, while the degree of correlation between testosterone levels and length of menopause was found to be 0.711, showing a strong and significant positive correlation. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between FSFI scores with testosterone levels and duration of menopause as well. There was also a significant relationship between testosterone levels and the duration of menopause.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pathological condition often found during pregnancy with a prevalence of about 5-7%. Abnormal implantation, abnormal trophoblast invasion, and endothelial cell dysfunction will result in increased proinflammatory cytokines. One of preeclampsia's pathogenesis is increasing levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6. Because of this, the researchers wanted to know the level of expression of TNF-alpha and Interleukin-6 in pregnant females with preeclampsia. This was an analytical study with a case-control design, done on 30 preeclampsia patients at the Adam Malik Hospital Medan in August - October 2016, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria of the study. IL-6 and TNF-alpha level were then examined, engage ethnic by ELISA with Human Interleukin-6 QY-E04262 reagent and Human Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alfa QY-E00182 reagent. The results of IL-6 in patients with preeclampsia increased (48.60±10.85) as compared to the control (31.99±2.65). TNF-alpha levels in patients with preeclampsia also increased (79.24±10.43) compared to the control (79.24±10.43). Statistical results showed significant differences in the expression of TNF-alpha and IL-6 levels in patients with preeclampsia compared with controls (p=0.0001). In this research, there were significant differences in the expression of TNF-alpha and IL-6 levels in preeclampsia patients.
