Abstract

Nutritional status is an important factor in assessing the growth and development rate of babies and toddlers. Cases of malnutrition are increasing, especially in magelang city. Because nutritional problems (Malnutrition) can affect the health of toddlers. Therefore, this study aims to predict the level of prevalence of malnutrition with the Naïve Bayes method. This research uses an observational design, a single center study at the Magelang City Office, using the Naïve bayes method which is used as an application of time series data, and is most widely used for prediction, especially in data sets that have many categorical or nominal type attributes. The Naïve bayes method is used to predict such cases of malnutrition. The results of this study show that the Naïve Bayes method succeeded in predicting the magnitude of cases of malnourished toddlers in Magelang City with an accuracy percentage of 75% due to the very minimal amount of training data, and the areas that have the most malnutrition are in three areas, namely Magersari, North Tidar and Panjang.

Abstract

Having understandable and clear-precise writing is fundamental for nurses who dive into a publication world. However, writing skills for publishing are not always part of the curriculum in many healthcare education systems globally. The writing skills must be adapted to successfully prepare for publishing in the scientific literature and presenting oral and written summaries of our research. Accepted or rejected is a part of the journey of the publication hunter. The author should understand the “rule of the game” of publication to minimize or avoid rejection in a high-standard nursing journal. Psychological preparation is also essential, as several authors feel pessimist after having a rejection. These phenomena need to be considered for a journal editor to massively educate the author about how to write a paper, how to describe gaps of knowledge, and how to explain the research method in the method section. Even though this process requires a long-time step, I think this would not be a big deal for the author. They will always try and try to achieve a publication in the highest-impact nursing journal. No matter how complicated the process is, being an optimist is always needed for those writing a publication. Keywords: accepted; rejected; publication; academic writing; nursing carreer

Abstract

Peptic ulcers are a leading cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, with the highest incidence observed among men and the elderly. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is the gold standard diagnostic tool, offering sensitivity and specificity rates of up to 90% for identifying peptic ulcers. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of peptic ulcer cases in patients presenting with hematemesis and/or melena who underwent EGD at RSUD Temanggung in 2023. A quantitative descriptive design was utilized, employing retrospective data collection from medical records of patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 23 medical records were analyzed. Among the 23 cases of hematemesis and/or melena, peptic ulcers were the most common diagnosis, accounting for 47.8% (11 cases). Erosive gastritis was the second most common diagnosis (39.1%, 9 cases), followed by esophageal varices (13.0%, 3 cases). Of the 11 patients diagnosed with peptic ulcers, 63.6% were aged over 60 years, 27.3% were aged 40–59 years, and 9.1% were aged 19–39 years. Regarding gender, 81.8% of peptic ulcer patients were male, and 18.2% were female. The majority (90.9%) of patients had ulcers classified as Forrest III, while 9.1% were classified as Forrest IIc. The most common nursing problems identified included ineffective tissue perfusion (36.4%), nausea (36.4%), and pain (27.2%). The findings highlight that the majority of peptic ulcer cases involved Forrest III ulcers, and key nursing concerns included managing ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion and nausea. This study underscores the need for targeted interventions to address these common nursing problems and improve patient outcomes in peptic ulcer management. Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus, a chronic disease resulting from an impaired endocrine system, disrupts glucose regulation and leads to elevated blood glucose levels. Individuals with diabetes may develop complications such as hyperglycemia. Persistent hyperglycemia can negatively affect mental well-being, potentially causing depression, anxiety, and diabetes distress. While numerous studies have explored predictors of diabetes distress, their findings have been inconsistent, and a comprehensive understanding of the contributing risk factors remains elusive. Purpose: To identify the dominant factors influencing the occurrence of diabetes distress. Method: This quantitative descriptive study involved a sample of 150 respondents. Participants were included if they had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus, were male or female, and were over 20 years of age, regardless of whether they had diabetes-related complications. Patients with unstable hemodynamic status or those unable to communicate effectively were excluded. The study took place at the Surakarta Islamic Hospital between July and September 2024. Data collection utilized demographic questionnaires, the Diabetes Distress Scale, the Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale, and the Medication Adherence Rating Scale. Pearson's test and multiple linear regression were used for data analysis. Results: The study found that the majority of respondents had a mean age of 56 years and were male. The analysis revealed four factors influencing diabetes distress in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus including treatment regimen (p-value = 0.001, B = -10.792), education level (p-value = 0.042, B = -3.779), age (p-value = 0.015, B = -0.404), and family support (p-value = 0.034, B = -0.333). Conclusion: The treatment regimen emerged as the most significant factor influencing diabetes distress; consistent adherence to the prescribed treatment plan was associated with lower levels of distress among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Furthermore, education level, age, and family support were identified as additional factors contributing to diabetes distress.
