Abstract

One interesting thing to discuss regarding the holding of regional head elections in 2020 is the increasing number of single candidates participating in democracy contestation. This article offers a comprehensive assessment of the theoretical and practical connections between the number of single candidates in holding regional head elections to the weakening of democratic values in regional head elections. The research methodology adopted for this research was normative. The results show that the factors causing the increase in the number of single candidates are the high threshold that must be met by political parties, an expensive political dowry, and the failure of political parties in carrying out the regeneration function. The increasing number of single candidates in regional head elections is synonymous with the decline in democratic values because the closure of the freedom space for the people to choose candidates. A single pair of candidates will close the freedom space for the people to elect their candidate for leader. A single pair of candidates in regional head elections can close the freedom space for the people to know and discuss the vision, mission, and work program of the single candidate pair. A single candidate in the regional head election is a violation of human rights because it has the potential to block the opportunity for the lower middle class to compete in the elections. The regional head elections with a single candidate will limit broader community participation.

Abstract

During the pandemic, the Indonesian government implemented policies to protect citizens from the virus. One such policy mandated the use of the PeduliLindungi application for passengers traveling domestically or internationally by land, sea, or air. The application helps monitor and track the virus's spread, and provides vaccination information. This study examines the government's policies on PeduliLindungi's use and how the existing legal culture relates to vaccination and quarantine within the app. The research methodology employed a doctrinal approach, analyzing laws, concepts, interpretations, and cases. The study found that the PeduliLindungi application is mandatory for all travelers. It allows passengers to access their vaccination status and determines the required quarantine duration. Violating quarantine orders can result in imprisonment and fines, as per Judge Decision No. 21/Pid.S/2021/PN.Tng. However, limited smartphone ownership restricts public access to the app. Therefore, the government must formulate policies that accommodate individuals without smartphones, ensuring their safety while traveling. Public legal awareness and understanding of the PeduliLindungi app's importance are crucial for protecting public health. Strengthening the legal culture is necessary to promote compliance with health guidelines and informed decision-making. By fostering a robust legal culture, individuals will prioritize health measures, safeguarding their well-being and that of the community.

Abstract

The majority of Indonesia’s population adheres to Islam. Therefore, it is essential that food consumption complies with Islamic law, including food consumed on airplanes. However, the information available to passengers regarding the halal status of food remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to analyze the regulation of halal products in Indonesia and to analyze the right to halal product information provided by Indonesian airlines during flights. The research was conducted normatively using a legislative and conceptual approach. Data on halal food information was obtained through internet searches and the food provided by airlines. The results showed that the regulation of halal products in Indonesia more clearly provides protection to consumers than in the Netherlands. Indonesia requires every food product in circulation and trade to include a halal label, namely the halal logo and halal certificate number without exception, while in the Netherlands this is not the case. In Indonesia, food information with a halal label on the plane, not all of them include it on the packaging of food products even though they already have a halal certificate. Passengers will be more comfortable and confident if the halal label information is easy to find and easy to read either on product packaging or in certain places.
