Abstract

Kata Kunci: hama; telescopium Telescopium; pakan alternatif; budidaya            ABSTRACTAceh is a province that has a high harvest of pond cultivation, such as in Alue Kumba Village, East Aceh. However, pond cultivation cannot be separated from problems, like pests. Pests that usually attack ponds are Telescopium telescopium (mangrove snails). Besides pests, the other problem faced by pond cultivators in Alue Kumba is the high feed price. The solution to those problems is the utilization of mangrove snails as an alternative feed ingredient. The community service activities consist of 1) knowledge explanation about the benefit and the disadvantage of the existence of T. telescopium; 2) training and assistance in making alternative feed; 3) training and assistance in alternative feed product packaging. After this activity, pond cultivators in Alue Kumba know more about T. telescopium and its use as alternative feeds. Besides, the pond cultivators are also skilled in producing alternative feeds to reduce costs for aquaculture feed. Keywords: pest; telescopium telescopium; alternative feed; cultivation

Abstract

Industrial activities have led to the aquatic environment degradation. One of the pollutants is lead (Pb) which has a dangerous toxic effect, cannot be decomposed and is mutagenic. High levels of Pb in waters can result in the death of aquatic biota and pose a threat to human health. This study examined the ability of the Jeringau plant (Acorus calamus) to absorb Pb. The Jeringau plant is taken from the river bank, with a length of 20 cm, has many leaves and roots. Artificial Pb waste was made with various concentrations of 0.5 mg/L, 1 mg/L and 2 mg/L. Furthermore, the Jeringau plant was put into a reactor containing Pb waste and observed for 9 days. The obtained results showed that Pb concentration decreased at the ninth day of 0.03 mg/L, 0.067 mg/L and 0.201 mg/L.
