Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive e-module for English Structure course to support digital learning in the English Study Program, Universitas Riau, Indonesia. The research used a Research and Development (R&D) approach and applied the ADDIE model consisting of five stages; analyse, design, development, implement and evaluate. The products developed were animated videos and interactive quizzes integrated into an electronic module using the Flipbook maker application. The e-module consists of three chapters with several sections in each chapter: video based explanation, text based description, example, interactive quizzes, and chapter summary. The results of the validations of media expert and material expert of the animated videos are 3.55 (very valid) while the interactive quizzes got an average score of 3.85 (very valid). Then, for the validations of the e-module, it go an average score of 3.96 (very valid) and 3.23 (valid) from the material expert and the media expert, respectively. On the whole, the average score of the validations is 3.60 (very valid). The e-module has been implemented to a group of students (n=20). The students’ responses show that the e-module has a very good category (3.75 for the attractiveness aspect and 3.61 for the convenience aspect). Therefore, it can be concluded that the e-module has a very good quality, both in terms of its materials and media, and is eligible to be utilized as a digital learning resource for Pre-Intermediate Structure course in the English department of Universitas Riau, Indonesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to make socialization about the benefits of the ketapang fruit which has not been utilized by SMP 6 Dumai. Ketapang fruit that is burned into ketapang charcoal can actually be used for water purification and the results of the tested water filter are clear, odorless and tasteless. In research on simple miniature water filtration using ketapang charcoal, it turns out that the use of ketapang charcoal can change the pH of the water close to the pH of neutral water. Filter results with ketapang charcoal can change the pH to close to neutral pH and suitable for consumption, where the water suitable for consumption is at a pH of 6.5-8.5. In peat water obtained pH = 7.93; rust water obtained pH = 7.9; clay water obtained pH = 7.53; ditch water obtained pH = 6.3 and river water obtained pH = 7.9. From this research, it is convinced to the community that ketapang charcoal can be used to purify water and neutralize the pH of the water.

Abstract

This correlation research aimed to examine the relationship between students’ family support and English learning achievement of third-year students in the English study program at Universitas Riau. The instruments included a 34-item family support questionnaire, adapted from the Social Family Support Scale (Thoriq, 2013), and students’ English learning achievement scores obtained from their GPA in English language skills subjects: Listening Comprehension 1–3, Speaking 1–3, Reading Comprehension 1–3, and Writing 1–3. The population consisted of 110 third-semester students, with 89 students selected using cluster random sampling. The results indicated a moderate correlation between family support and English learning achievement. Students’ family support was at a high level, and their English learning achievement was at a good level (B+), with family support contributing 16.9% to students’ achievement.
