In order to get the clarification of this movement the author uses qualitative research by using documentary research analysis of Batak’s literature regarding the movement of Ugamo Malim and compare it to the Biblical principles.  As the result the study found that before the colonialism Ugama Malim was existed as the way to have a pure life, however when colonialist came the purpose of this movement became formed as a movement in against the colonization and their religion which was brought to Batak Land. For today, the purpose of Ugamo Malim is to conserve the Batak’s culture, ceremonies, and practices in Batak’s Land. Although Ugamo Malim and Biblical principles is different, however there are several similarities in beliefs and practices such as worship God as they called “Mula Jadi Nabolon” (the creator), the day of worship is Saturday, forbidden eating blood and several unclean food as written in the Leviticus 11.  Therefore, the main purpose of the movement of Ugamo Malim was to reach the pure life but it developed due to the coming of colonialism and modernity.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role and impact of pastor visitation on the spiritual growth of the congregation, with reference to the verse Matthew 25:36. The research method used is a quantitative approach through the use of a structured random sample with online questionnaire distribution (Google Form) to 54 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear analysis method, t test (partial), F test (ANOVA), and descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed a simultaneous positive and significant influence between pastoral visitation and congregational spiritual growth, with an ANOVA calculated value of 35.987 ≥ the F table value of 3.99 and a significance level of 0.000. Partial tests revealed that pastoral visitation partially has a positive and significant influence on the spiritual growth of church members based on Matthew 25:36, with a t-test value of 5.999 ≥ 1.99834 and a significance level of 0.000. This finding contributes to the understanding of the role of pastoral visitation in the context of congregational spiritual growth, as well as its implications for the development of pastoral practices in the church environment.

Abstract

The conflict between reason and faith in understanding the universe's origins has been the subject of long-standing debate in various religious and scientific communities. This article undergoes an in-depth analysis of the two main views that define different views of the creation of the universe: creation theory and evolutionary theory. The first approach, which is based on creation theory, asserts that the universe was created by God in accordance with sacred texts, such as the Book of Genesis in the Bible. This view emphasizes the role of faith and religious beliefs in describing the universe's origins. This view interacts with modern scientific discoveries and how potential conflicts between religious beliefs and scientific evidence can be resolved. On the other hand, the evolutionary view relies on the origins of the universe on an ongoing evolutionary process, based on ever-growing scientific evidence. The theory of evolution views the creation of the universe as a process that took place over millions of years through biological and physical evolution. This concept influences religious views and how efforts are made to ease tensions between scientific views and religious faith.

Abstract

This research examines the role of the Abrahamic, Mosaic, and Davidic covenants in the Old Testament as key mechanisms for salvation. Derived from the Hebrew term berith, a covenant is a divine agreement establishing a relationship between God and His people. Each covenant plays a pivotal role in salvation history, revealing God's character and redemptive plan. The Abrahamic Covenant promises land, descendants, and blessings, forming the foundation of Israel's identity. The Mosaic Covenant, given at Mount Sinai, provides the Law as a guide for righteous living. The Davidic Covenant guarantees an eternal kingdom through David’s lineage, pointing to the messianic hope. Despite their importance, there is limited research on the covenants as interconnected aspects of salvation. This study addresses key questions regarding their theological implications and relevance for modern discussions on salvation. Using qualitative methods, the research analyzes key Old Testament passages and secondary sources to explore their historical context, themes, and salvation implications. The findings reveal that these covenants illustrate God's relational approach to humanity, emphasizing grace, faith, and obedience. Understanding these covenants is essential for grasping salvation in both the Old and New Testaments. This study highlights the interconnectedness of the covenants, deepening our understanding of God's redemptive plan and its impact on contemporary theology.
