Abstract

Screening of antimicrobial activity compound from steam bark of Shorea foxworthyi Sym by Thin Layer Chromatography-Bioautography method have been conducted. The result of this research can be base in elucidation of antimicrobial activity compounds from S. foxworthyi Sym. The first step was done in this research that is maceration of S. foxworthyi steam bark using methanol solvent. Fractination to methanol extract was done using n-hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate solvent, respectively. Phytochemical screening were done to methanol, chloroform, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate fractions. Screening of antimicrobial activity compound were done to polar fraction such as methanol, chloroform, and ethyl acetate fraction. The bacteria were used in this screening such as E. coli, S. aureus, S. thypii, and B. Subtilis. The extract was highest antimicrobial activity choosed to test by Thin Layer Chromatography-Bioautography. The result was showed that chloroform extract was had highest antimicrobial activity and the flavonoide of compaund was considered having antimicrobial activity.

Abstract

Zamioculcas zamiifolia is an ornamental plant that had been used pharmacologycally as a traditional medicine plant. The aims of this research were to investigate the phytochemistry of n-hexane, chloroform and methanol extracts from the roots of Z. zamiifolia and to evaluate their biological activities as antioxidant and cytotoxic. All extracts were screened phytochemically using specific reagents and TLC technique to reveal the major component of each extract. The chloroform was obtained as the highest quantity of extract which gave positive test for steroids and flavonoids. All extracts were tested for their antioxidant activity using DPPH method and for their cytotoxic activity against two types of human cancer cell lines, HepG2 and T47D, and normal African green monkey kidney ephitelial cell lines, Vero. The methanol and chloroform extract exhibited antioxidant activity with  AA50 values of 180.0 and 431.5 µg/mL, respectively. Chloroform and methanol extracts showed potencial and moderate cytotoxicity towards T47D cell line with IC50 433.1 and 461.1µg/mL, respectively. None of the extracts was toxic against HepG2 and Vero cell lines.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to see how learning results differ before and after using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, as well as to see how the PBL learning model affects the electrochemistry material in class XII IPA SMA N 11 Pontianak. The form of research used with a research sample of 35 persons was pre-experimental using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Pre-test and post-test data collecting methods were used. The normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk test was employed in the data analysis technique, and the results of the pre-test and post-test revealed that the data were not normally distributed, with Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) less than 0.05. The Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) value of the Wilcoxon test was less than 0.05. These findings suggest that there are changes in learning outcomes before and after using a PBL learning paradigm as a treatment. The pre-test and post-test mean scores were 53.71 and 84.57, respectively. An increasing in learning outcomes in electrochemical material is obtained by obtaining an effect size calculation value of 1.6, or the equivalent of 33% of the contribution of the PBL model.Based on the result of the pre-test & post-test there are difference in learning outcomes before and after using the PBL.

Abstract

The present research aimed to describe the skills of 11th grade students in predicting reaction rate material. The need for this study arose due to the inadequacy of the teacher's assessments to elaborate on the students' predictive skills, particularly in reaction rate material. The participants were 26 students from the 11th grade Science-2 class of State Senior High School (SMAN) 5 Pontianak. A quantitative description with a case study approach was used to gather data. The students were administered a questionnaire immediately after the reaction rate lesson, consisting of three questions. The mean scores of the students were analyzed to determine the results. The results showed that 50% of the students were categorized as having a very low level of skill in predicting reaction rate material, 27% as having a low level, 19% as having a medium level, 4% as having a high level, and 0% as having a very high level. It can be concluded that the majority of the students have a very low level of skill in predicting reaction rate material. The findings of this study have implications for teachers in creating more suitable lesson plans, syllabi, and media to align with the students' standard of competency outlined in the curriculum. This study may also serve as a foundation for future research on knowledge and education sustainability.

Abstract

A prospective teacher needs have to qualified scientific literacy skills so that students have good abilities in learning science-related knowledge. However, assessments to measure students' scientific literacy skills that are adapted to PISA aspects are also still rarely carried out. Therefore, describing the scientific literacy ability of Chemical Education students at Tanjungpura University are needed. This research used quantitative descriptive method which aimed to describe students' scientific literacy skills. The sampling technique used is a saturated or full sampling technique which is samples are taken from all members of the population. The subjects of this study were students of Chemistry Education at Tanjungpura University as many as 45 students. Data collection techniques in this study are direct measurement and communication techniques. The measurement technique is done by giving a test in the form of three essay questions. Direct communication techniques in the form of semi-structured interviews to support research data and confirm student answers. Data collection tools in this research were scientific literacy tests and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed by providing a score of the results of the scientific literacy test, calculating the average test score, and determining the category of scientific literacy. Based on the results of data analysis, students' scientific literacy skills with an average percentage of content knowledge with competence in identifying scientific questions of 39.62%, procedural knowledge with competence to explain scientific phenomena by 26.38%, and epistemic knowledge with competence in using scientific evidence by 23.33%
