Abstract

Abstract

The prolonged conflict in Poso has left a lasting mark of collective trauma, particularly within refugee communities. This trauma has triggered a psychosocial crisis transmitted across generations through collective narratives, refugee identity, parenting styles, and socially embedded suspicion and prejudice. This study aims to explore the intergenerational transmission mechanisms of collective trauma among post-conflict refugees in Poso. Employing a qualitative case study approach and thematic analysis, in-depth interviews were conducted with two generational groups: direct survivors of the conflict and those born afterward. Findings reveal that trauma plays a significant role in identity formation among younger generations, reflected in high levels of anxiety, social withdrawal, and heightened sensitivity to violence. Social mechanisms such as “self-defense” and “self-counter” emerge as adaptive responses aimed at protecting community identity. These insights contribute to the design of more context-sensitive psychosocial interventions, including peace education, intergenerational parenting programs, and intercommunity safe spaces that foster reconciliation and integration.

Abstract

Suicide remains the second leading cause of death among adolescents globally, with suicidal ideation often being the critical precursor. While family factors are recognized as a significant trigger, the qualitative mechanisms remain underexplored. This multiple-case study employed a qualitative design to investigate the family-related dynamics influencing suicidal ideation in adolescents. Three participants (aged 20–21) from Salatiga, Indonesia, with lived experience of suicidal ideation attributed to family factors, were selected via purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, then analyzed thematically. Eleven key themes emerged: suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, family communication dysfunction, excessive pressure, grief, history of violence, parental overcontrol, responsibility burden, hopelessness, low self-esteem, and protective factors. The findings reveal that suicidal ideation arises from a complex interaction between dysfunctional family dynamics (e.g., poor communication, pressure, violence) and the adolescent's internal psychological state (e.g., hopelessness, low self-esteem). Protective factors, including improved family dynamics, social support, and religiosity, were crucial in mitigating risk. The study underscores the need for early intervention targeting family systems and strengthening protective resources to prevent adolescent suicide. Keywords: suicidal ideation, adolescents, family factors, qualitative study, protective factors

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of forgiveness on subjective well-being among women who experience dating violence. A quantitative method was applied in this research. The participants were women aged 18–25 years living in Java Island who were currently experiencing or had previously experienced violence in dating relationships, selected using incidental sampling. Data were collected using the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scales (PANAS) to measure subjective well-being, and the Transgression-Related Interpersonal Motivations (TRIM) Inventory-18 to assess forgiveness. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicate that forgiveness has a positive and significant effect on subjective well-being (p < 0.05), with a contribution of 21.5%. These findings show that forgiveness plays an important role in supporting the psychological well-being of women who experience dating violence. This study is expected to contribute to the development of positive psychology and provide practical implications for psychological recovery efforts among female survivors of dating violence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of self-control on cyberslacking behavior among Generation Z university students. The research is grounded in the phenomenon of increasing internet use in academic settings, which on the one hand supports the learning process, but on the other hand has the potential to encourage non-academic internet use during lectures. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design, using purposive sampling involving 130 Generation Z students who actively use the internet for academic activities. Data were collected using a self-control scale based on Averill’s aspects and a cyberslacking scale based on the aspects proposed by Albar and Ariyanto. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicated a significant negative effect of self-control on cyberslacking behavior (R = 0.686; p < 0.05), with a contribution of 47.1%. The higher the level of self-control possessed by students, the lower their tendency to engage in cyberslacking behavior, and vice versa. These findings reinforce the view that self-control plays an important role in regulating maladaptive internet use during the learning process. This study is expected to provide practical implications for students and educational institutions in efforts to enhance self-control in order to minimize cyberslacking behavior in academic environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and consumptive behavior among students of UKSW. The background of this research is based on the increasing use of social media and online shopping platforms, which encourages student consumption behavior through social pressure and the desire to follow trends. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design and a purposive sampling technique involving 125 UKSW students aged 18–25 years. Data were collected using a FoMO scale based on the theory of Przybylski et al. and a consumptive behavior scale based on the theory of Lina and Rosyid. Data analysis using Spearman correlation revealed a significant positive relationship between FoMO and consumptive behavior (r = 0.699; p < 0.05). Higher levels of FoMO were associated with higher levels of consumptive behavior among students. These findings indicate that FoMO plays an important psychological role in shaping student consumptive behavior in the digital era.
