Abstract

The goal of this study was to identify the different kinds of errors that were made by English Education Department students at KH. A. Wahab Hasbullah University of Jombang when they were writing their thesis abstracts. It also sought to understand why these errors could happen. This study concentrated on the thesis abstracts written by English education department undergrads. This study employed a descriptive qualitative methodology. Thirty undergraduate thesis abstract texts released in 2022 served as the research's source of data. Collection, identification, description, explanation, and evaluation of errors were the steps in the error analysis process. The method of data analysis was developed based on Corder's work, which was cited in (Nurdin & Sri Hartati, 2019). According to the results, undergrad students' mistakes included adding words, using the wrong terms, capitalizing, omitting words, spelling, punctuating, using the wrong tenses, and misusing word forms. These errors can be made in a variety of ways depending on their kind, and they can also result from carelessness, inadequate grasp of English grammar and vocabulary, and inter- and intra-lingual interference.

Abstract

In education, the role of the teacher determines the quality of learning, especially for teachers who teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study aims to know the pedagogical competence of English teacher in manage the English classroom, and how the teacher evaluates the learning process in class at junior high school class VIII in Jombang, East Java. This study used a qualitative case study. The subject of this research is one English teacher of excellent class VIII in Junior High School. There were two kinds of instruments in this research: interview and class observation. This study concluded that English teachers demonstrate good pedagogical competence in classroom learning. Based on the result of the observation, the teacher showed the application of pedagogical competence during the teaching process. In managing the English classroom, the teacher can effectively manage the classroom by creating structured lesson plans and following them throughout the class. In evaluating the learning process shows that the teacher uses various methods and techniques to evaluate the learning process comprehensively and variously in evaluating the learning process.

Abstract

Pembelajaran Akidah Akhlak yang merupakan bagian dari kurikulum sekolah Islam berfokus pada pengembangan karakter Islami siswa melalui penanaman nilai-nilai empati, rasa hormat, dan pengendalian diri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembelajaran Akidah Akhlak terhadap pencegahan perilaku bullying di kalangan siswa kelas VIII M di MTsN 3 Jombang. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, di mana data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dengan guru, dan kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran Akidah Akhlak berkontribusi signifikan dalam membentuk sikap positif siswa, yang tampak dari peningkatan kesadaran mereka untuk saling menghargai dan menghindari perilaku negatif seperti bullying. Selain itu, pengamalan nilai-nilai akhlak dalam aktivitas sehari-hari siswa juga berdampak positif terhadap suasana kelas, menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih harmonis dan kondusif bagi proses pembelajaran. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa pembelajaran Akidah Akhlak memiliki peran penting dalam upaya pencegahan bullying di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Literasi merupakan hal yang patut di perhatikan di masa sekarang, banyak yang tertarik dengan media sosial yang mengakibatkan menurunnya literasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan kegiatan literasi dasar di MTSN 3 Jombang. Metode penelitian dalam artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik purposive sampling pada studi documenter dengan 3 sesi pelaksanaan yaitu menulis, bercerita dan membaca. Objek yang diambil yaitu siswa Mtsn 3 Jombang. Teknik analisis data dengan reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat diutarakan bahwa kegiatan literasi ini sangat bermanfaat bagi siswa terutama di zaman yang seba media sosial. Apabila kegiatan ini dilakukan sejak sekolah dasar seperti di MTsn 3 Jombang. Konteks literasi sekolah ialah keterampilan mengakses, mengerti, dan memakai suatu hal secara cerdik lewat berbagai perlakuan seperti membaca, melihat, dan mendengarkan. Hasil kegiatan yang dilaksanakan, diharapkan siswa mulai terbiasa untuk melaksanakan literasi sesuai yang di ajarkan. Hari berlalu juga akan dilakukan perkembangan hingga tahap evaluasi guna meningkatkan studi literasi di masing-masing siswa.

Abstract

Reading is one of the fundamental skills needed to improve language skills and global knowledge. The key to increasing students' reading interest is to get them used to read from an early age. The purpose of this study was to describe the use of picture story books to increase students' reading interest in literacy activities and to find out teacher and student responses to it. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that includes teachers and 32 first-grade students in an elementary school in Trenggalek as research subjects. Based on the study's results, the use of picture story books in literacy activities was carried out in six steps with a different story at each meeting. Furthermore, teachers and students gave positive responses about it. Teachers agree that learning with picture story books can increase students' reading interest because pictures can help them understand the meaning of unknown words. Also, the use of picture story books can be an illustration to guide students in understanding the storyline and help develop students' cognitive aspects in critical thinking, as well as creating a sense of pleasure and enthusiasm during the reading process.

Abstract

In the process of reading, students have to be aware, think about what difficulties they always encounter, and think about the strategies used in reading, known as metacognitive awareness. Hence, this study is necessary to analyze students’ perceptions about reading in English and their ways to cope with the problems by assessing their own metacognitive strategies. This study applies a case study of a qualitative approach with 39 first-year EFL university students. The results indicate that 58.97% of students like reading because it can boost their understanding of vocabulary, sentence structure, language skills, academic achievement, and speaking English properly. There are no difficulties encountered in reading English since it is fun, easy to understand, and gives them new knowledge. While the rest, 41.02% of students, explained different experiences since they perceived reading English as boring and a bit difficult in the case of pronunciation and words, but it is needed in students’ jobs. While the most frequent strategies used in metacognitive awareness of reading are "when the text becomes difficult, I reread to increase my understanding," "I read slowly but carefully to be sure I understand what I am reading," and "I try to get back on track when I lose concentration." In sum, most students like reading because it supports their academic achievement, and the metacognitive strategies are helpful for students to evaluate their ability in comprehending the scientific article for future improvement.
