Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries increases and can lead to heart disease and deadly strokes. One of the non-pharmacological therapies currently being developed to reduce high blood pressure is to consume herbal plants. The herbal plant used is the Moringa tree (Moringa Oleifera). The purpose of this literature review is to explain the effectiveness of the consumption of Moringa plants as an antihypertensive. The researched method used a literature studied approached with journals as sources. Searched of researched articles across multiple databases used keywords over a five year period. The results of the studied, consumption of Moringa Oleifera could affect the reduction of high blood pressure. This was due to various phytochemical compounds, bioactive compounds, polar compounds, vitamin C, potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca). Thus, Moringa Oleifera could provided the desired effect as a natural high blood pressure controlled drug and could been said as an alternative medicine. Moringa Oleifera could been combined with other herbal plants and medical drugs in controlling high blood pressure.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has been recognized as one of the most challenging chronic diseases that can cause premature death and also as a major cause of blindness, heart disease, and kidney failure. The level of treatment adherence in chronic disease patients in developed countries is estimated to be low, even lower in developing countries including Indonesia. Giving Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) to DM patients can obtain information related to DM self-care, knowledge, skills, and psychological status of patients have increased so that patients are compliant with treatment. This study aims to determine the effect of DSME on adherence to taking medication in Type 2 Diabetes patients at Bolaang Mongondow Utara Hospital. The design of this study was a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-post test design consisting of 50 respondents. The statistical test uses the Paired samples T-test. The results of the analysis show a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), which means that there is a significant effect of DSME on medication adherence in DM patients. It is recommended that service institutions be able to provide DSME as an additional intervention for people with Diabetes Mellitus to increase adherence to taking medication so they can maintain glycemic control.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to develop a behavior model in controlling blood pressure of patients with hypertension by integrating the theory of Health Belief Model and adaption model theory by Roy. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in January 2020. The population in this study was hypertension patients at the Community Health Center. The sampling technique used in this study was consecutive sampling. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by Partial Least Squares. Result: Modification factor, cues to action, individual beliefs and cognator significantly affected the behavior for blood pressure control with t-statistic value >1.96. Modification factors affected individual beliefs (t=10,648). Conclusion: This behavioral model can assist nursing in developing strategies to improve blood pressure control behavior in hypertensive patients. The behavior of the hypertensive patients was possibly improved by the involvement of the health worker by routinely educating the patients and their family related to hypertension and how to control blood pressure and also related to stress and how to manage it as well as with support from the family in self-care management and lifestyle modification.
