Abstract

Teaching strategy is one of the important things and is a way for teachers to support teaching and learning activities in schools. Teaching strategies are also really needed by teachers to increase students' interest in learning during learning activities and make students more interested in learning. In writing this study, the authors analyzed teaching strategies with students' learning interests towards English lessons of MTS Ali Imron Medan students with the aim of knowing what teaching strategies were used by English teachers in English lessons and students' interests in teaching strategies that teachers used in language lessons. England. The type of research used in this study is a qualitative research method. In perfecting the research results, using the interview method with the English teacher at MTS Ali IMron Medan. The results of the study show that students' interest in learning English is determined by the teaching strategies used by the teacher in the classroom. In connection with the results obtained, it is suggested that teachers can use and choose teaching strategies that are liked by students so that students are more interested in learning English.

Abstract

Dynamic academic challenges in contemporary educational settings require students to be able to adapt, persist, and recover when facing pressure and difficulties in the learning process. Optimism is considered an important internal factor that contributes to strengthening students’ resilience. This study was designed to examine the relationship between optimism and academic resilience among senior high school (SMA) students using a quantitative correlational approach. This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method, aiming to examine the relationship between optimism and academic resilience among high school students. The study sample consisted of 195 high school students selected through purposive sampling. The measurement instruments in this study used an optimism scale developed by the researcher based on Seligman’s (2006) theory, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.922, and an academic resilience scale developed by the researcher based on Cassidy’s (2016) theory, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.872. The data obtained were then analyzed using the product-moment correlation technique. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between optimism and academic resilience (r = 0.668, p = 0.000, p < 0.05). These findings suggest that higher levels of optimism are associated with higher levels of academic resilience. Therefore, strengthening students’ optimism is essential as an effort to enhance academic resilience in coping with academic demands during the learning process. Tantangan akademik yang dinamis dalam dunia pendidikan mengharuskan siswa untuk mampu beradaptasi, gigih, dan bangkit kembali saat menghadapi tekanan dan kesulitan dalam proses belajar. Optimisme diyakini berperan menjadi salah satu faktor internal dalam meningkatkan ketahanan diri siswa. Penelitian ini dirancang untuk mengetahui hubungan antara optimisme dengan resiliensi akademik pada siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional, yang bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara variabel optimisme dan variabel resiliensi akademik pada siswa SMA. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 195 siswa SMA yang diambil melalui teknik purposive sampling. Alat ukur dalam penelitian ini menggunakan skala optimisme yang dibuat sendiri oleh peneliti mengacu pada teori Seligman (2006) dengan nilai Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,922 dan skala resiliensi akademik yang dibuat sendiri oleh peneliti mengacu pada teori Cassidy (2016) dengan nilai Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,872. Data yang diperoleh selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan teknik korelasi product moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara optimisme dengan resiliensi akademik diperoleh hasil sebesar r = 0,668 dengan taraf signifikansi p = 0,000 (p < 0,05). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat optimisme, semakin tinggi pula resiliensi akademik yang dimiliki. Penguatan optimisme pada siswa penting dilakukan sebagai upaya meningkatkan resiliensi akademik dalam menghadapi tuntutan akademik selama proses pembelajaran di sekolah.
