Abstract

This study evaluated the language use in students’ speaking production. It was aimed to classify and analyze the level of attitude as one of subsystems appraisal theory proposed by Martin and White (2005). The attitude subsystem focused on the choice of words, phrases and structure by speakers to convey their reviews on an issue. The data were taken from 30 students’ reviews of presentation about outfit in a private university in Cirebon through descriptive qualitative method with spoken discourse analysis. The data were taken by transcribing the recorded students’ reviews into text, classifying into the clauses and analyzing the appraising items to conclude the attitude resources in the students’ reviews. The finding of this study demonstrates that appreciation is the most dominant used in students’ reviews to convey their representation to the things toward the outfit presentation. That makes their reviews are appreciative than emotional and judgemental to express their opinion about outfit presentation. This study suggests English lecturers to informs students the importance of attitudinal words usage in order to strengthen their voices, especially in speaking.

Abstract

This study examined the challenges both teachers and students in implementation of teaching and learning ESP. It focuses on mastering English in students’ needs relating to the specific fields. This used a qualitative study obtaining data from questionnaires and interviews. The findings showed that the students’ vocabulary mastery was an obstacle during learning ESP. It made the students felt difficult to comprehend the materials. Moreover, the teachers are supposed to prepare the ESP materials from textbooks and articles relating to the specific fields although there were lack of sources. However, learning ESP applied the students-centered activities and built an interaction between teachers and students during discussing and practicing the ESP materials. It encouraged the students to be active for their speaking skill improvement. It also assisted the students to enhance new vocabularies relating to the specific fields. Therefore, to achieve students’ comprehension in ESP, the teachers should develop ESP materials and method of teaching in order to deliver optimally the ESP contents.

Abstract

The focus of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Gist and Graphic Organizers in teaching reading to students with different levels of vocabulary proficiency. This study used a quasi-experimental methodology with a 2x2 factorial design to examine university-level English language learners. Two experimental subjects were involved. Gist and Graphic Organizer materials were used as instructional tools for data collection. Additionally, an observation was made to validate the data findings. According to the research findings, Gist and Graphic Organizers were helpful in teaching reading to students with different vocabulary competence levels. However, the results suggested that the Gist technique benefits both pupils with high and low vocabulary skills. Observation also revealed that students found the Gist technique more engaging and participatory. The lexical proficiency of students had a substantial impact on instructional materials, mainly when the Gist technique was applied. It has a significant impact on the reading comprehension of students. In teaching reading comprehension, the Gist method was adequate for students with a high vocabulary competency, while graphics Organizers was adequate for learner with a low vocabulary proficiency.

Abstract

Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that allows users to interact within a simulated digital environment that closely resembles the real world. This technology holds great potential as an interactive and engaging learning medium, especially for topics that are difficult to comprehend through conventional methods. In this research, a VR application called VIRTYA (Virtual Reality Tata Surya) was developed to help elementary school students understand the concept of the Solar System. The Solar System is often challenging for students to grasp due to its abstract nature, which is typically presented only through illustrations and videos. With the VIRTYA application, students can virtually explore the Solar System, view the planets in realistic 3D representations, and interact with celestial objects. The application was built using Unity 3D and Google VR SDK, and implemented on Android devices with the aid of Google Cardboard. The development of this application followed the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), which was adapted to the specific needs and stages of the project. This application aims to enhance students' understanding of the Solar System by offering a more interactive and visually engaging approach compared to traditional teaching methods.Kata kunci: Virtual Reality, Solar System, Unity, Google VR SDK, Interactive Learning

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of integrating Project-Based Learning (PBL) with Multiple Intelligences (MI) through film production to improve English language competence among third-semester Design students. Fifteen students participated in the project, which was conducted under the 2025 Competitive Grant Program. Data were collected through pre- and post-test assessments on speaking and writing, MI questionnaires, classroom observations, film project evaluations, and student as well as lecturer interviews. The results revealed significant improvements in students’ productive English skills, with mean speaking scores increasing from 64.5 to 79.1 and writing scores from 62.7 to 76.7. The MI questionnaire showed that most students demonstrated dominance in visual-spatial intelligence (33.3%), followed by musical and interpersonal intelligences (20% each). Observations and interviews highlighted that film production provided authentic opportunities for students to apply their dominant intelligences while collaborating in creative tasks. Film project assessments further confirmed that students successfully balanced linguistic competence, creativity, and technical aspects, with overall results rated from very good to excellent. These findings indicate that MI-integrated PBL through film production is an effective and meaningful approach to language learning, as it fosters not only linguistic proficiency but also collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Children with special needs often face challenges in accessing inclusive and adaptive learning environments, particularly due to limited awareness and utilization of digital technologies among educators and parents. This community service activity aims to enhance understanding and capacity in the use of digital technology to support learning for children with special needs through an international webinar. The program was conducted in Cirebon and involved collaboration with an international expert from Malaysia, targeting educators, parents, and community stakeholders. The method used included a socialization approach delivered through an online webinar platform, featuring presentations, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The materials focused on innovative digital tools for early detection, personalized learning, and strengthening collaboration between home and school environments. Evaluation of the activity was carried out through participant feedback and observation of engagement levels during the session. The results indicate that participants showed increased awareness and knowledge regarding the importance and practical use of digital technologies in supporting children with special needs. Participants also expressed positive responses toward the relevance of the materials and the international perspective provided. Furthermore, the activity fostered motivation among educators and parents to adopt digital tools in daily learning practices and encouraged collaboration across stakeholders to create a more inclusive educational environment. Abstract
