Abstract

English Social Work Journal that social service is a form of social work practice that is embodied in social service agencies. This is in line with the change in mindset in the provision of social services. Efforts made by social care institutions for children are providing social services to neglected children who do not have parents, father, mother or family and are economically disadvantaged. To realize this, it is necessary to increase the professionalism of social services, one of which is to increase the quality of services in social institutions. This journal discusses the quality of social services at the Shade of Kasih Kemuliaan Orphanage. This was done by carrying out an English learning program where the training program was carried out at the Shade of Kasih Kemuliaan Orphanage and there were 13 children and 6 students involved. and fundraising to meet the basic needs of the Orphanage by providing groceries.

Abstract

Communication is needed by almost all human activities, wherever they are, they are always touched by communication. Education cannot run without the support of communication, even education can only work through communication. "In other words, there is no educational behavior that is not born by communication. How is it possible to educate people without communicating, teaching people without communicating or giving lectures without speaking. Everything needs communication.” 1 Without communicating human life will not run as a whole and will experience a problem, this is because human communication is not carried out properly. In the research that I am currently doing, I am conducting research at SMP Negeri 18 Medan. In this case I observed the behavior of every school member in Medan 18 Public Middle School, and to make it easier I took a sample of class IX students, every day I observed the way they communicated between friends, between students and teachers, and between students and students. other staff members. And I also conducted a question and answer discussion with class IX students with what subject matter each student liked the most and out of 11 subjects, almost 80% of both students liked sports subjects, and 20% others liked other subjects. And also I asked what subjects they disliked the most and out of 100% of class IX students 50% did not like Social Sciences subjects, the other 50% did not like Mathematics. And when carrying out the question and answer discussion, I also saw the way each student communicated, and I can conclude that each student has a unique personality when communicating with me. There were students who answered impressively as if they were used to being asked questions by other people, and there were also students who answered with embarrassment, maybe because these students were a little closed to their surroundings. And this is my biggest motivation in raising the title of this research, and I hope that through this research students at SMP Negeri 18.[1]With the new learning system, you can build a fun teaching and learning atmosphere. I tried to form one of the systems while making observations at SMP Negeri 18 Medan. I try to apply the question and answer discussion before the lesson begins. This plays an important role in shaping the attitude and character of a student when participating in education. Every student will have good self-confidence when they can understand lessons at school and of course they will be even more active for future lessons. This is one of the efforts to advance education in Indonesia in order to educate the life of the nation and state.

Abstract

This journal explains several efforts to empower the mentality of children living in the Dewi Karunia orphanage. This is an effort by social welfare students at the University of North Sumatra to provide a real presence in society and apply the knowledge learned from the lecture period they have undergone. In the current era, the amount of discrimination against children in orphanages has become a big problem that cannot be ignored. Children who live in orphanages every day must receive good social treatment. The treatment in question is educational facilities, learning facilities, a healthy environment and most importantly having a good mentality like children in general. There are social issues that are clearly heard, namely that children living in orphanages have abilities that are below average compared to children in general. This problem is an imbalance that should not occur. Orphanage children must have a high spirit and mentality. With this, they will be able to compete with children in general. Their limitations in terms of family can be the main factor in their lack of encouragement in adapting to the environment and learning. However, all of this can be overcome by implementing reading and writing. Over time, the implementation of the reading and writing system has had a positive impact on the children at the Dewi Karunia orphanage. They started to open up when invited to discuss. Many of them are serious about learning. Limited encouragement in the family means that orphanage children have to learn independently. They must get used to living independently. There are still many of them who are still not fluent in reading and writing. Many of the children in the orphanage are still not fluent in arithmetic. Efforts to empower mentality through literacy programs really help orphanage children to continue to develop. Not only that, they can also easily understand every lesson they take part in at school. At their current age, character formation can start early. This aims to ensure that every child in the Dewi Grace orphanage can grow both mentally and intellectually. I will implement this empowerment effort within a period of four months. Seeing all this requires patience in giving directions. Foresight, perseverance and good preparation can help efforts to empower children through the application of reading and writing to children at the Dewi Karunia orphanage.
