Abstract

Abstract

The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L). has significant potential as a source of carbohydrates in Indonesia The purple hue of sweet potatoes is a result of natural pigments known as anthocyanins. As antioxidants and free radical scavengers, anthocyanin chemicals have a crucial role in combating aging, cancer, and degenerative disorders. In addition, anthocyanins possess anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic properties, as well as the capacity to prevent liver function abnormalities, act as antihypertensives, and reduce blood sugar levels. Given the numerous benefits of anthocyanin content, the presence of anthocyanin compounds as a source of natural antioxidants in purple sweet potatoes is highly intriguing. Alongside the growing public knowledge of healthy living, consumer food preferences are also altering. Foods that are beginning to be in high demand among consumers have an appealing appearance and flavor, as well as specialized physiological benefits for the human body. The presence of anthocyanin compounds in purple sweet potato makes this type of food very attractive to be processed into foods with functional value. On the one hand, with the increasingly limited land area, the potential for developing agricultural products, including sweet potatoes, is also increasingly limited. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the yard business model owned by households is not utilized optimally. Therefore, in providing healthy food and functional food based on anthocyanin-rich sweet potatoes, it is necessary to develop and revitalize yard land by vertically developing sweet potatoes in sacks. In addition to increase the availability of functional, healthy food, this activity is also a revitalization of the use of yardland.

Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the effect of plant population and fertilization based on efficiency and nutrient adequacy balanced between organic and inorganic on the growth and yield of local upland rice Wakawondu cultivar. The treatment design was split-plot in a randomized block design with three replications. The main plot was the number of seeds per planting hole (A) consisting of three levels, namely one seed (A1), two seeds (A2), and three seeds per planting hole (A3). Subplots were organic and inorganic fertilization (B) which consists of four levels, namely without fertilization (B0), 100% bokashi from Cromolaena odorata or 10 tons ha-1 (B1), giving 100 % inorganic fertilizer or Urea 200 kg ha-1, SP-36 100 kg ha-1, KCl 100 kg ha-1 (B2), and a combination of 50% bokashi fertilizer or 5 tons ha-1, and 50% inorganic fertilizer or Urea 100 kg ha-1, SP-36 50 kg ha-1, KCl 50 kg ha-1 (B3). Plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, productive and maximum of tillers, harvesting age, flag leaf area, length of panicle, total number of grains, percentage of open grain, grain weight of 1000 grains, dry grain weight, and yield were the variables observed. Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and further DMRT α= 0.05. The results showed that three seeds per planting hole were the best treatment to increase the number of productive tillers, namely 7.8 tillers with a production of 1.52 tons ha-1 or an increase in productivity by 5% compared to one seed per planting hole. A balanced fertilization combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers is the best treatment that can increase the number of productive tillers, namely 7.1 tillers with a production of 1.8 tons ha-1 or an increase in productivity of 16% compared to without fertilization.

Abstract

This PKMI activity will apply POP technology (organic plus fertilizer) which is environmentally friendly in the community living in Wakadia Village, Muna Regency, both non-productive and productive communities in the agricultural sector. Wakadia village is an agricultural area with land conditions that continue to grow vegetables throughout the year using chemical fertilizers so that this will have an impact on decreasing the condition of soil nutrients and have an impact on the health of the people of Wakadia village. In this New Normal era, healthy and nutritious nutrition is urgently needed to increase the resistance or immunity of the local community, so that to fulfill this nutrition organic vegetables that are free of chemicals are needed. Therefore, POP technology is needed to improve the quality of soil nutrients, increase production and obtain organic vegetable crops. In the village of Wakadia there are also many agricultural wastes and livestock manure that are abundant but have not been optimally processed so that they do not provide added value to the village community, so PKMI activities must be carried out to improve environmental conditions that have been polluted due to the use of chemical fertilizers, and also can increase the income of the local community by utilizing existing waste to be used as organic fertilizer. Where organic fertilizer has a higher price than livestock manure that has not been processed. Thus, the solution offered in this PKMI activity is the application of technology in changing the use of chemical fertilizers with the use of POP technology so that farming land is even more productive. The forms of technology applied to the community in this service are (1) technology for making organic fertilizer plus (2) technology for packaging organic fertilizer plus (3) technology for marketing horticultural crops through online media (Facebook and Watshap).

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this research is to obtain information on the resistance of several local cayenne pepper varieties from Southeast Sulawesi to drought stress. The study was conducted at Field Laboratory II, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University, Kendari, which took place from January to June 2022. The research consisted of two experiments, namely the seed phase and the plant phase. The first experiment used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK). The first factor was drought stress, consisting of 3 levels of PEG concentration (0, 7.5, and 15%). The second factor was the type of cayenne pepper, including 2 national varieties: Dewata and Bara, as well as 4 local cultivars from Konsel, Konawe, Muna, and Kendari. The second experiment also used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK). The first factor was watering with field capacity (KL): 100, 50, and 25%. The second factor was the same as in the first experiment, which was the type of cayenne pepper. The first experimental variables were germination ability, germination weight, and drought stress index in the seed phase. The second experimental variables were plant height, number of leaves, root length, fruit weight, and stress tolerance index in the plant phase. Observational data were analyzed using variance analysis, followed by the BNJ test with a 95% confidence level. The results of the research showed that there was an interaction between the drought stress treatment and the type of cayenne pepper plant, which had a significant effect on plant height, root length, and fruit weight per plant. However, for germination ability, germination weight, and the number of leaves, each factor had an independent effect. With the 15% PEG treatment in the germination phase, the resistant cayenne pepper varieties were the cultivars from Muna and Konsel, while the 25% field capacity treatment for the plant phase of resistant cayenne pepper were Dewata and Bara varieties, cultivars from Muna and Konsel.
