Abstract

This article discusses industrial development on EV di Indonesia, viewed from Sectoral system of innovation (SSI) perspective. The objective of this study is to map challenges in connecting the elements of SSI for developing EV industry. The method of study is a desk research, where the information input relies on secondary sources, consisting of statistical data, official documents and scientific references. This study found eight challenges to develop EV industry. The institutional challenges include: i. fiscal programs are still less effective to promote industrial  collaboration on EV innovation with universities and R&D institutions; ii. Local content target is still difficult to fulfill; iii.  unreadiness of local industry to be involved in the EV supply chain; and iv. Slow consumer response towards EV program incentives. On the knowledge and technology challenges are: i) the quality and standards of EVs from domestic R&D are still inadequate for commercial scale; and ii.  potential investors have not shown adequate interest  in local EV development. The demand challenges are: i. the plan to make Indonesia as EV hub in ASEAN region is far from reality due to lack of investors; and ii. the lack of ECS accessibility is a barrier to the domestic EV market. Keywords: electric vehicle, sectoral system of innovation, institutions, knowledge and technology, demand

Abstract

This study was aimed to identify and to compile both the primary and the secondary data of the technological products based on the technology of the 4th industrial revolution developed by public R&D institutions in Indonesia, then to analyze the emerging challenges from the development to the diffusion process. The primary data were obtained through the interview with experts. The secondary data were obtained from each institution’s website, report archives, and written publications. A qualitative analysis using SWOT approach was applied in this study. As the result, this study has identified as many as 33 technological products, in which the 15 products belong to agriculture as the leading sector, followed by fishery, healthcare, and other sectors. The majority of the products’ statuses are prototypes that still require further development. Four main challenges have emerged from the development to the diffusion process: (1) the supporting technologies are mostly imported components and the supplies are not regularly available; (2) the disbursement of the components budget is considered complicated; (3) there is no potential licensing with the private sectors; and (4) the diffusion of the products is considered difficult when it comes to deal with the users that have low level of digital literacy. Keywords: 4th industrial revolution, public R&D institution, technology, challenge, Indonesia

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to provide an empirical description of a) the relationship between mothers’ maternal behaviour and awareness to improve the nutritional status of their children and families and b) their behaviour of using social media (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook) as the primary source of information to enhance their awareness of providing balanced and nutritious foods for their children, are the subjects of this study. The purpose of this study is to provide an empirical description of both of these topics.   Methods: An online questionnaire was distributed to targeted respondents, namely 133 mothers with infants and toddlers from 16 provinces in Indonesia. Regression analysis was performed using SPSS software to assess mothers' propensity in seeking information, mainly from social media, about nutritious foods when making dietary choices.   Findings: This indicates a significant correlation between mothers' awareness of seeking information about nutritious food using social media and their decisions to provide daily meals and first-line complementary foods for their newborns and toddlers. However, this awareness was not related to the variety of side dishes available on the menu.   Originality: This study offers original empirical evidence on the role of social media as a primary source of information for mothers in 16 Indonesian provinces, improving their awareness and decisions about nutritious feeding to prevent stunting. The study uniquely links digital engagement (social media) with improved child nutrition, addressing a gap in maternal health research in Southeast Asia.
