Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi di kelas XI SMAN 1 Pasir Penyu. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti ingin mendeskripsikan kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi: kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi adalah Grammar, Vocabulary, Mechanic, Organization, dan Ide atau Content. Saya memilih judul ini karena judul ini belum banyak diteliti oleh orang lain dan judul ini masih menimbulkan berbagai macam permasalahan, sehingga saya sangat tertarik untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut dan memilih judul ini. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui tes menulis, tes seperti artikel, koran, majalah dan ensiklopedi dengan menggunakan observasi, tes, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Tujuannya mendapatkan lebih banyak data. Teknik metode ini menggunakan metode campuran. Analisis kuantitatif digunakan untuk menghitung persentase nilai tes siswa. Sementara itu, analisis kualitatif digunakan untuk menggambarkan atau menginterpretasikan hasil dari hasil analisis kuantitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI IPS 3 SMAN 1 Pasir Penyu sebanyak 32 siswa. Dengan menganalisis jawaban tes menulis siswa pada lembar wawancara. Peneliti mengetahui diperoleh nilai total hasil skripsi mereka adalah 1,899, dan nilai rata-rata siswa yang kurang adalah skor 59,3%. Kemudian dari jawaban tes tersebut peneliti mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi.Kata Kunci : Kesulitan, Penulisan, dan Teks Explanation

Abstract

Challenges of English teacher in learning process and the way of teacher solved the challenges in teaching process, planning process, teaching implementation, and evaluation remain relatively unexplored in the context of Indonesia Private Senior High School where teaching English is one of the lesson most demanding and a difficult job. This study attempted to identify the teacher’s challenges and to explore how the English teacher solves with the challenges in teaching English at Panjura Private Senior High School in Malang. In this study uses qualitative method where one of English teacher becomes participant. Interview and observation are used in this study as the instruments to collect the data. The findings showed that the teacher gets some challenges in teaching English. through a non-participant observation and structured interview with the English teacher who taught English in English class, it was found that there were four kinds of teacher’s challenges in teaching English: (1) The teacher could not control the classroom and manage time, (2) The teacher could not choose appropriate media, (3) The teacher could not assess the students' development, (4) The teacher could not choose the appropriate method. Through an interview showed that the teacher had solution to solve the challenges in teaching English. They were (1) the teacher should apply self-discipline, use polite language, and encourage enthusiasm, (2) the teacher should prepare the media based on the teaching goals and its benefits, (3) the teacher should do an individual approach, give more attention to students, and be creative in teaching, (4) the teacher should be able to determine the suitable teaching methods. Eventually, the implications of this study are identified that the teacher should be able to confront the challenges and be creative in the teaching process. The teacher should be able to realize the needs of students in the situation and create own solutions if the teacher gets the challenged in the English class.

Abstract

Teaching media are commonly used by English teacher in teaching English in schools of Indonesia. The teacher uses media to encourage students’ motivation because it is one of important parts of success in learning process. Moreover, use of teaching media helps the teacher to connect learners with events that are culturally relevant in order to achieve the teaching and learning goal. SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang is a Junior High School with two inclusive classes. In this descriptive qualitative research design, the researcher limited the problem to the media used by English teacher in seventh grade inclusive classes at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang. The subject of this study was one of the English teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang. Therefore, the purposes of this research were to know the media used by the English teacher, and to know the strengths and weaknesses the media  used by the teacher in teaching English at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang. In collecting the data, the researcher used three kinds of instruments. They were observation, interview and documentation. Based on the data, the researcher found that the teacher utilized mobile phone, laptop, internet, digital projector, Microsoft Power Point, book, poster, real object, speaker active, video and Youtube as the teaching media used in teaching English. Additionally, the researcher also found that there were several strengths of using teaching media in teaching English. Those strengths were the media could make students active in in learning process and the students were focus to understand the material. However, the researcher also found that the weakness of using teaching media in teaching English. The weakness was it was difficult for the teacher to get students’ attention.Keywords: Teaching Media, SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang.

Abstract

The method used to conduct this research was the descriptive qualitative method. The sample of the research was the fourth-semester students of the English Education Department which consisted of 24 students. The aim of this research is to know their ability in using pronouns.  To collect the data, a written form of the test was used and it was divided into two categories (multiple choice and essay). The students were then asked to do the test of pronouns of a subject, object, adjective possessive, possessive and reflexive. The design of the test was based on the relevant literature review and the authors’ observation when the teaching and learning process about pronouns took place.  After the analysis of the data, the average score obtained from the student's test was 6.4 which belonged to the fair good category. The result of the test showed 23 students (96%) whose abilities were in the middle category, 1 student (4%) whose ability was in the low category, and 0 students (0%) whose ability was in the high category.   Even though the results make the authors surprised, the findings of the research can give some points of view for a lecturer to prepare the lesson materials better, apply various teaching techniques to get the student's attention and interest during the teaching-learning process and use various teaching aids to support the success of his teaching so that the students could have better understanding and competence in English.Keywords: Ability, Pronoun

Abstract

The language style can be defined as the words people use when they are in certain conditions or places. People also use the language style depending on who the audience is and where they are speaking. The use of the right language style is needed to convey the message well. Students need to understand its use to live a social life in their environments. Many inappropriate language styles are still used, resulting in unclear information being conveyed. Students are expected to better understand and be able to use the language by learning the style that fits with their needs. The purpose of this study were to analyze the type of language style, to find out the dominant type of language style and to describe the factors that affect Guy in “Free Guy” movie to speak in a different style.In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research design to collect the data. This research design was chosen because it was more suitable to describe the data. The researcher uses two instruments to collect the data. They are personal documentation and human instrument.  Personal documentation is used to collect the conversation that contains the data and human instrument uses to support research in completing the data. The researcher analyze language style that used by the main character in “Free Guy” movie by grouped  the data that has been collected according to the type of language and the researcher determines the most dominant type of language style. Then, the researcher determined the factors that influence the differences in the use of language styles. After the researcher analyses the conversations that contained 5 types of language style, the researcher found that there are four types of language style used by Guy in the movie: formal style, casual style, consultative style, and intimate style, while the frozen style was not found in the "Free Guy" movie. For more details as follows: formal style consisted 3 data, consultative style 12 data, casual style 5 data, and intimate style 15 data. Second, of the four types, the most dominant type was the intimate style, which consisted of 15 data. Third, the researcher found 4 factors that influence the differences in the use of language styles. They were the participants involved in the dialogue, the situation and place where the conversation takes place, the purpose of the conversation and the topic of the dialogue.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out if there is significant relationship between students’ vocabulary knowledge and their speaking ability. The method used in this research is a correlation design which has two variables, variable X (vocabulary knowledge) and variable Y (speaking ability). The populations of this research were 275 of the second-grade students of MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru and the researcher take 28 students as the sample. The researcher employed Simple Random Sampling technique. In collecting data, the researcher distributed objective test and take an oral test. The researcher analyzed the data with Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula by using SPSS 23.0 version. The results of this research, students' vocabulary knowledge has an average score of 73.04, which is categorized as "good" their speaking ability has an average value of 76.36, which is categorized as "good". Of course, there is a significant correlation between the relationship between students' vocabulary knowledge and their speaking ability at MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada masyarakat bertajuk Seminar ini bertujuan untuk membantu mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris STKIP Insan Madani Airmolek untuk memilih metode penelitian sesuai dengan judul proposal yang telah di tentukan. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut metode seminar adalah dengan melalui pendalaman teori. Tujuan dari seminar ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan serta pemahaman mahasiswa STKIP Insan Madani Airmolek tentang metodologi penelitian serta meningkatkan kemampuan dalam membuat proposal penelitian khususnya penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan ialah dengan memberikan ceramah serta pemaparan tentang teori metodologi penelitian kepada para mahasiswa STKIP Insan Madani Airmolek serta memberikan tutorial bagaimana membuat proposal penelitian mulai dari Pembuatan judul hingga metodologi penelitian, Hasil yang dicapai dalam seminar ini adalah para mahasiswa memiliki pengetahuan tentang pembuatan proposal penelitian. Selain itu peserta juga telah dapat memahami mengenai ruang lingkup dari proposal penelitian. Hasil kegiatan ini dapat dijabarkan satu per satu sebagai berikut: peserta mampu memahami landasan teori metode penelitian, peserta mampu memahami jenis-jenis metode penelitian. Peserta mampu mengombinasikan metode penelitian. Peserta mampu menyusun proposal dengan benar, peserta mampu menentukan topik proposal dan peserta menguasai komponen-komponen metodologis yang dibutuhkan dalam penulisan usulan penelitian serta mampu menyusun usulan penelitian sesuai dengan kaidah penulisan karya ilmiah.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the psychological factors affect students’ speaking performance The research is  descriptive qualitative research. The participant of this research was taken through random sampling technique. The participant of this class is class A which consist of 47 students. The research instrument of this research is questionnaire. In this research, the technique analysis data are collecting data, categorized the data based on indicators, describe the data and make conclusion. Based on the result of the research e, there are several psychological factors which become the barriers for the students n performing their speaking, they are anxiety, fear of making mistakes, shyness, lack of motivation, and lack of confidence. These psychological factors not only appear from one student who is presenting his speaking competence in front of the class, but also from other students who act as audience in individual speaking activity. Abstract

 Teaching techniques are commonly used by English teacher in teaching English in Indonesia. The teacher uses teaching techniques to create equal learning opportunities to each student because each student has different needs and interests. SMAN 1 Jayapura is the first senior high schools in Jayapura, which was built on 1st August 1965. This school is also a favorite school. The students are from many ethnics in Indonesia such as Javanese, Sudanese, Melanesia, Toraja, Bugis, Moluccas, etc.In this descriptive qualitative research design, the researcher limited the problem to the teaching techniques used by English teacher in the tenth and eleventhth classes at SMAN 1 Jayapura. The subject of this study was one of the English teachers at SMAN 1 Jayapura. Therefore, the purposes of this research were to describe kinds of teaching technique used by the English teacher, and to explain the strengths and weaknesses the teaching technique used by the teacher in teaching English at SMAN 1 Jayapura. In collecting the data, the researcher used three kinds of instruments. They were observation checklist, interview guide and documentation.Based on the data, the researcher found that the teacher used complete the dialogue, transformation drill, antonyms/synonyms, scramble sentences, question and answer exercise, peer correction, fill the blank, reading aloud and small group tasks as the teaching techniques used in teaching English. Additionally, the researcher also found that there were several strengths of using teaching techniques in teaching English. Those strengths were the techniques could make students active in learning process and the students were focus to understand the material and also it can improve the Students’ skill in English. However, the researcher also found that the weakness of using teaching techniques in teaching English. The weakness was it was difficult for the teacher to get students’ attention. Key words: teaching techniques, teaching English SMAN 1
