This study is a qualitative descriptive. This research was conducted by direct observation of English teachers. This research was conducted by direct observation of the teacher in the classroom and by interviewing. Researchers studied four English teachers and gave the same four questions to each teacher. Indicators of success include three English teachers use cooperative strategy. The results of this study showed that three out of four English teachers who are in SMA Negeri 1 OnanRunggu using cooperative strategies in the teaching of narrative text. That means that 75% of 100% choose to use a cooperative strategy. Thus, it is suggested that the english teachers apply strategy cooperative when teaching narrative text. The aim of this study is to develop Picture Series as a media for teaching writing procedure text at the third year students of Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. The researcher used Research and Development (R &D) method through ten steps: observing, evaluating need analysis, developing first media, validating with experts, revising it, testing in small group, revising, testing in large group, revising, producing final product. The subjects of this research were 30 students from IX-1 class, and 34 students from IX-2 class. The instrument of collecting data was using questionnaires. The data were analyzed by descriptive text technique. The result of the product from two validators – an English lecturer from State University of Medan and an English teacher from Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School, was in scale of 4 which was in good quality. And the result from all of the students was in scale of 4 which was in good quality too. It means that the developed product/Picture Series is eligible to be used for teaching writing procedure text for the third year students in Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. This study focused on finding out the effect of Visual media on students’ achievement in writing procedure text. This study was conducted in experimental design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Stabat. There are 60 students of seventh grade as sample of the research. This study was conducted by using random sampling. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Visual media (picture), while the control group was taught by using Video. The instrument of collecting the data was a written test. To obtain the reliability of the test, the researcher used scoring rubrics. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shown that t-observed is higher than t-table (3.52 > 2.00) at the level signivicance (α) 0.05 with the degree of freedom 58 (df = N-2). It means that there was a significant effect of using Visual media on students’ achievement in writing procedure text. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.Keywords: Visual Media, Students’ Achievement, Writing Procedure Text

This study focuses on analyzing the process of classroom interaction through Flanders Interaction Analysis Category (FIAC) model. The objective was to decsribe how the teacher and students use the categories of classroom interaction in English class by using Flanders Interaction Analysis Category (FIAC) model. The data was found based on the data transcription . the source of the data was the utterances between English teacher and 10th grade students at SMA N 2 Doloksanggul. The instruments for the data collection was video recording. The data analysis applied descriptive qualitative research. It was found that the total percentage each categories classroom interaction were Accepts Feeling (1.1%), Praise and Encourages (2.4%), Accepts Ideas of Students (1.2%), Asks Questions (18.8%), Lecturing (25%), Giving Directions (17.8%), Critizising or justifying authority (2%), Student Talk Response (15.3%), Student Talk Initation (1.9%), Silence or Confusion (14.5%). The dominant category of Teacher Talk in English classroom interaction at SMA N 2 Doloksanggul was Lecturing (25%). While The dominat category of Students Talk was Students Talk Response (15.3%). Reading is the basic in learning every subject. The more understanding the text, the more information students can gain. However, the reading materials that the students use is not appropriate based on syllabus. Therefore, the reading materials should be developed to fulfil the syllabus and the students' needs also. Because English is included Content Area Reading, so the development of reading materials is based on content area which focus on strengthen the vocabularies, specifically the unfamiliar ones, by giving glossary and related pictures. The developed text is only focus in the first semester which is descriptive and recount text. The research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The data was taken from interviewing the English teacher and distributing questionnaires for 30 students in grade VIII-4. The data showed that students need materials which is related to their environment and constructed by familiar vocabularies. Based on the result of the study, conclusion and suggestion are directed to the English teacher who is teaching in that school to provide reading materials based on syllabus and students' needs regularly.
