Abstract

The national standardized school summative examination (USBN) is the test for measuring student competency achievement, it is constructed by Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) about 25% and MGMP Province 75%. However, in improving the quality of the test, it is addition the cognitive dimention of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) as the standard. The purpose of this study is to prove the quality of the test in terms of item analysis, distribution of hots and consistency of the test. This study was conducted by analyzing the national standardized school summative examination (USBN) 2019 items, answer sheet, key answer and syllabus.The data was collected from archieves in one of Senior High School. The result shows that the item analysis of the test is valid and reliable, the level of difficulty is not balanced, the discriminating power is sufficient, and the effectiveness of distractor is mostly need revision. Moreover, the distribution of hots has pass the limit and the test consistency is satisfactory in criteria of a good test

Abstract

This study aims to unrevealing the challenges of novice English teachers in English teaching. This research was used qualitative method. The writer used the case study design. The instrument for collecting the data through interviews. This study was conducted in some junior high school in Garut areas, West Java. It is located around rural area. The participants were selected utilizing the purposive sampling method. The findings showed that novice English teachers have some challenges in English teaching. First, novice teachers were difficulty implemented their knowledge in the world of work. Second, the biggest challenge for novice teachers is classroom management. Third, failure to manage the classroom caused students misbehavior in the classroom, such as daydreamed, slept in class, talked, used a smartphone, etc. Fourth, mentality, novice teachers often lead to childish attitudes when they were taught. Fifth, novice teachers thought about keep staying or leaving their profession as teachers. Sixth, all of the novice teachers felt sad and disappointed faced many problems.

Abstract

Digital technology has permeated almost every aspect of life. Meanwhile, the responses from the field of language teaching in Indonesia to this new development have been scarce. This study aims to investigate the EFL teachers’ perceptions on ICT in English classrooms. To achieve this aim, a qualitative case study design with a semi-structured interview as the instruments was employed. The participants involved in this research were two English teachers in one of senior high schools in Garut. In conclusion, both participants had a positive perception about the use of ICT in English classrooms. This is indicated by their knowledge of ICT, the kind of ICT, the benefits of ICT, the role of ICT, and how to use it. In addition, they also supported the existence of ICT in English Classroom which is claimed to be helpful. However, they still had barriers in applying ICT in their classroom technically and non-technically

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to find out the implementation of Genrebased approach in teaching speaking of descriptive text and the students’ responses toward the implementation of Genre-based approach. This study was conducted at Grade XII Multimedia program of SMK Negeri 4 Garut. This study used descriptive method in non participant observation which researcher did not participate in the activity being observed. The data were obtained through observation and interview. All the data interpreted to answer all research questions. This study revealed that the teacher has understood about the basic principles and stages in Genre-based approach and implementing it properly in his teaching and learning process. Based on the interview with English teacher the researcher found the students showed positive responses toward the implementation of this approach in the class. It can be proven by the improvement of students’ enthusiasm in responding learning and teaching process.
