Abstract

Kata Kunci: Generasi Z, Observational Learning, Media Sosial X, Peringatan Darurat, Pembentukan Opini, Social Learning Theory, PLS-SEM ABSTRACTThis study aims to analyze the influence of observational learning and the intensity of social media X usage on the formation of Generation Z students' opinions regarding the socio-political phenomenon of "Emergency Alert." Generation Z, as digital natives, is highly involved in consuming and interacting with information on social media, making them highly influential in shaping public opinion. The research used a quantitative method with an explanatory and cross-sectional approach, involving 385 Gen Z student respondents in Greater Bandung who are active users of social media X and have interacted with "Emergency Alert" content. The research instrument was tested using Pearson's validity test and Cronbach's Alpha reliability, while data analysis was performed using PLS-SEM. The research results show that observational learning has a significant influence on the formation of student opinions (path coefficient = 0.399; t = 4.583; p = 0.000). Conversely, the intensity of social media X usage has no significant effect (path coefficient = 0.001; t = 0.133; p = 0.894). Simultaneously, the two independent variables explain 32.4% of the variance in student opinions (R² = 0.324). This finding confirms that the process of learning thru observation on social media plays a more significant role in shaping sociopolitical opinions than simply the frequency of platform use. Social media platform X functions not only as a space for communication but also as an arena for social learning that influences the opinion formation of Generation Z thru cognitive, affective, and behavioral processes. Keywords: Generation Z, Observational Learning, Social Media X, Emergency Alerts, Opinion Formation, Social Learning Theory, PLS-SEM.

Abstract

Freelance journalists in Indonesia have a higher level of precariousness in terms of occupational health and safety, as well as socioeconomic conditions during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease, 2019) pandemic. The vulnerability of exposure to the virus is caused by non-fulfillment of work equipment standards, health protocols when interacting with news sources, and inadequate health facilities. Another issue threatening freelance journalists is the deterioration of global economic conditions during the pandemic, which has had a devastating impact on corporate revenues. As a result, freelance journalists are also threatened with dismissal from work, late payment of wages, or even not paid at all. Referring to the concept of labor precariat from Guy Standing, this study aims to determine the factors that contribute to the vulnerability of freelance journalists in Indonesia and the strategies used to survive amid a pandemic that has not yet ended. This research uses a qualitative approach by observing the practice of journalism physically and in cyberspace and interviewing several key informants. The findings of this study show that internal company factors also adversely affect the condition of freelance journalists. Freelance journalists are often considered not an important part of the company, so some need to be equipped with standard equipment, adequate security equipment, and health insurance. So, to deal with this condition, some freelance journalists try to survive by applying individual tactics such as doing business on the sidelines of their journalistic activities. In addition, they also apply institutional strategies by strengthening networks through associations and professional communities.

Abstract

Abstract. The use of AI in newsrooms has transformed journalistic practices, through human-machine integration. This phenomenon has been widely studied in European and African countries. However, in Asia, although some countries such as China have adopted AI technology in their journalism, similar research is still limited. This article aims to map the current trends in the use of AI in journalism in Asia, examine the challenges faced by newsrooms, and the potential replacement of the journalist profession by AI. Using a Systematic Literature Review, this article suggests that the current use of AI in Asia has occurred in only a few countries. This study also found that data bias and privacy violations are challenges for newsrooms in Asia. Finally, this study shows that (AI) will not replace human journalists. Journalists do not need to be afraid that AI will replace their profession. This article contributes to filling the research gap on AI and journalism in Asia, and provides relevant insights for academics, media practitioners, and policymakers in preparing adaptive strategies to technological developments.

Abstract

The regeneration of Indonesian batik artisans faces challenges in business sustainability and digital marketing development. As results from field observations of students majoring in Batik and Textile Creative Crafts at SMKN 14 Bandung show a gap between technical batik competencies and marketing communication competencies, foremost in narrating product values, identifying market, and building self-entrepreneurship capacity as Batikpreneurs. This phenomenon causes the inability of cultural creative products to compete in the digital ecosystem. The community service program entitled "Batikpreneur for Youth Generation: Improving Marketing Communication Capacity and Digital Entrepreneurship Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Students majoring in Batik and Textile Creative Crafts at SMKN 14 Bandung" is a solution in increasing marketing communication literacy and the use of artificial intelligence technology for students. This program emphasizes the development of student competencies in Brand Storytelling, Persuasive Communication, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a supporting tool for communication strategies using the Participatory Action Learning (APL) approach. Program implementation includes: (1) Utilization of AI for audience research and market trends; (2) Strategy for creating authentic brand narratives; and (3) Application of AI-Assisted Copywriting techniques to produce product descriptions that are both emotionally valuable and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) friendly. This activity is in line with the 2026 Humanities and Media Studies Expertise Group Community Service roadmap with the theme, “AI, Creativity, and Media Innovation”. Through the integration of technology in empowering the creative economy, this activity is expected to produce adaptive young entrepreneurs. The output targets of this activity include practical guidance, as well as the publication of scientific articles in Sinta-accredited national journals as a scientific contribution in the field of digital marketing communications.

Abstract

Tempo has transformed its news presentation strategy by developing more engaging video and audio content, particularly through the Bocor Alus Politik podcast. The commodification process within this podcast is intriguing to examine from a media political economy perspective. This study analyzes the implementation of Vincent Mosco’s theory of commodification covering content, audience, and labor in the Bocor Alus Politik podcast on YouTube. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis, the research explores how investigative journalism is repackaged into commercially viable digital products. The findings show that content commodification occurs through casual formats, provocative titles, and branding strategies that enhance exchange value while promoting Tempo’s premium subscription services. Audience commodification is reflected in the transformation of viewers into measurable assets through data extraction, watch time, and engagement metrics such as likes and shares that strengthen algorithmic visibility. Labor commodification reveals that journalists’ expertise, time, and reputation are capitalized as intangible assets to boost digital performance, often blurring the boundary between editorial independence and commercial demands. This study highlights the tension between economic sustainability and journalistic integrity in the digital platform era.
