Abstract

The purpose of this study was to semiotically analyze the representation of gender equality in Downy's product advertisements. This research uses qualitative research with constructivist paradigm approach. The researcher determines that the object of this research is the advertisement itself, namely the Downy version of the 'Together with Downy Harumkan Namamu for Free Expression' version. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that this advertisement displays a clear meaning where this advertisement mentions many stereotypes of prohibitions or limitations that exist in society against women, this advertisement also mentions that these stereotypes are not always true as long as it is beneficial for themselves and many people. In addition, this reaffirms that a woman really needs to get equality, with the expressions shown in the advertisement convincing that women are also capable and have high enthusiasm to do anything they want. Furthermore, this advertisement wants to show the myth that is interpreted about the stereotypes that exist in society where women have many limitations such as in expression, in career, and in leading.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the media’s political economy by paying attention to the commodification and spatialization of Radio Jusyan 92.7 FM to maintain its existence in the digital era and the current media industry. This study uses a critical paradigm with qualitative-descriptive research methods with data collection techniques using in-depth interviews and participatory observations documented during the research. The results showed that Radio Jusyan 92.7 FM has been able to design media political economy strategies through commodification with the commodification of content, the commodification of audiences, commodification of workers, and spatialization with aspects of vertical and horizontal integration. Radio Jusyan can adapt every content it produces to the listeners’ needs and keep pace with market tastes that continue to change along with the times. In addition, Radio Jusyan provides live streaming facilities and social media platforms. Listeners who remain loyal to Jusyan’s radio broadcasts make this a selling point that can be offered to advertisers. Radio Jusyan workers are also responsible for carrying out their duties and obligations. Radio Jusyan 92.7 FM expands the same and different business fields, which is what makes Radio Jusyan able to maintain its existence to this day.

Abstract

Journalists are among the workers who continue to engage in journalism activities like news covering despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Journalists facing paradoxical conditions between being productive in news covering and the dangers of virus transmission that can infect at any time. In other hand, journalists need support equipment facilities to avoid virus transmission during news covering process. Moreover, various media companies announce layoffs and salary cuts by asserting business uncertainty. This study aims to describe journalists’ vulnerability within journalism activity and journalist as occupation during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This study was conducted with a qualitative method by analyzing the primer data from 50 journalist various region and representatives of journalist’s association in Indonesia. Furthermore, we analyze secondary data that provided officially by Alliance of Independent Journalists Indonesia. Authors found that the lack of health insurance, support for preventing the spread of COVID-19, unilateral dismissals by media institutions, and salary cuts place journalists in a difficult position. Aspects of journalism activities that run normally without institutional or structural support legitimize the vulnerabilities experienced by journalists in Indonesia.

Abstract

Komunikasi menjadi salah satu tolok ukur kualitas kompetensi guru dan staf di lingkungan sekolah. Komunikasi interpersonal menjadi kemampuan dasar dalam berinteraksi dalam berkomunitas, berkelompok, dan berorganisasi. Selain itu komunikasi interpersonal bisa membangun kedekatan personal untuk memahami orang lain dan menjadi fondasi dasar yang kuat dalam membangun profesionalisme organisasi. Hal ini juga tidak lepas dari adanya transformasi digital, media sosial, dan aplikasi pesan daring. Namun begitu, kesadaran seperti empati dan kemampuan mendengar aktif seringkali tergerus. Sejauh ini sekolah Pascal Montessori Bandung belum banyak mengikuti lokakarya yang menitikberatkan pada komunikasi interpersonal dan organisasi melalui media digital. Lokakarya ini diharapkan memberikan kontribusi positif bagi Sekolah Pascal Montessori Bandung. Berdasarkan hal ini, Universitas Telkom mengadakan kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat dengan masyarakat sasar Sekolah Pascal Montessori Bandung.Penerapan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dalam lokakarya ini dilakukan melalui dua sesi seperti yang tertera pada Gambar 1. Sesi pertama menerangkan teori melalui presentasi dan sesi kedua simulasi komunikasi interpersonal dan organisasi melalui media digital. Media digital yang digunakan adalah ponsel dan laptop. Lokakarya ini dihadiri 16 orang staf yang terdiri dari guru, staf, dan juga pengelola yayasan. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan materi presentasi, demonstrasi, dan praktik selama satu hari pada 18 November 2022. Lokakarya ini berimplikasi positif dengan feedback 87.5% menyatakan lokakarya ini menambah pengetahuan dan kemampuan komunikasi interpersonal dan organisasi mereka.Kata kunci: Komunikasi Interpersonal, Komunikasi Organisasi, Montessori, Media Digital, Bandung

Abstract

Nowadays new media is widely used not only for entertainment purposes, but also to raise public awareness about major environmental issues which is critical for presenting topics like climate change, global warming, and deforestation, as well as encouraging public debate and information exchange. This research aims to seek the utilization of new media in environmental communication. Environmental communication extends beyond campaign-related activities which also affects how people see themselves and the natural world around them. This research uses CIFOR (The Center for International Forestry Research) as a study case because it is recognized as an internationally non-profit scientific organization that carries out research on the most important issues in global forest and landscape management. This research benefits from Ecological Model of the Communication Process which employs qualitative research method with single instrumental case study approach. Data is gathered through direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and extensive literary study. The result demonstrates that CIFOR has been developing multiple digital channels including podcasts, videos, datasets, presentations, and datasets. This is in accordance with the Ecological Model of the Communication Process to communicate their findings. Additionally, it has been found that new media in CIFOR combines and blurs the lines between interpersonal communication and mass media communication.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the stages of implementing virtual competition as one of the types of virtual events. The virtual competition which was being studied was the 2021 International Photography and Short Movie Festival (IPSMF). One of the industries most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic is the event industry. As an industry that generates revenue from crowds of visitors, most event organizers are turning their offline agenda into virtual events. These phenomena continue to rise during the post-pandemic days. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The analysis in this study was carried out based on the stages of organizing virtual which consists of Pre-Plan, Plan, Accomplish, and Response and Engage. This study indicate that the implementation of the 2021 IPSMF virtual competition has several differences. These differences exist in all stages. Based on these differences, it can be concluded that the activities carried out in the implementation of virtual events can be adjusted to the conditions and needs of the virtual event in question. The implementation of virtual events has a very wide audience reach compared to conventional events. Event organizers are required to create a digital platform with up to date, accurate, and interactive content.

Abstract

Abstract Propaganda is a communication used by an organized group to create active or passive participation in the actions of a mass audience. The author sees that propaganda occurs because of the existence of a government in an area. The government is the main reason for the transformation of values ​​in society. This happens because there is an activity carried out by the government to convey the government's own policies and objectives. The activities carried out can be in the form of propaganda. This research was conducted with the aim of describing the propaganda, in particular the techniques used as a means of transforming the Sukowiyono Village community. This research uses qualitative research methods using interview techniques as a way of collecting data. Interviews were conducted with religious figures and followers of Kejawen Islam in Sukowiyono Village. The research results show that the transformation of the Sukowiyono Village community gave rise to new Kejawen variations which were formed from the integration of new values ​​and Kejawen. Propaganda techniques are used to achieve goals effectively and efficiently. In the case of the transformation of the Sukowiyono Village community, several types of propaganda were carried out jointly and the media through da'wah was continuously used to disseminate information and government policies.

Abstract

Journalism on television is present as a bridge for society in fulfilling everyone's right to obtain information that is in accordance with the facts. Senior journalist Najwa Shihab came with a different spectacle that had never happened in Indonesia, he presented an interview with an empty chair. This study uses a constructivist paradigm with descriptive qualitative research methods through the semiotic approach of Roland Barthes. The purpose of this study is to describe how the vacant seat interview show "Mata Najwa" can represent an empty seat as Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Terawan Agus Putranto. This research shows that the show “Mata Najwa” titled #MataNajwaMenantiTerawan represents an empty seat as Minister Terawan with an analysis of denotation, connotation, and myth. The results of this analysis were obtained through taking pictures, the sentences spoken and the meaning of myths in the "Mata Najwa" impressions of the empty chair interview.

Abstract

Kreator konten kini jadi fenomena, setiap orang memiliki orientasi menjadi kreator konten. Peristiwa apapun kini selalu menjadi sorotan bagi kreator konten tersebut. Namun, karena ekspektasi yang tinggi terhadap setiap kontennya agar banyak ditonton disukai atau dibagikan, beberapa konten minus etika. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan metode service learning yaitu pengadaan workshop kepada Siswa/Siswi SMKN 3 Bandung mengenai terkait dengan etika digital dalam menciptakan konten di ruang digital. Adapun tujuan dari worskhop ini adalah memberikan pemahaman terhadap rambu-rambu etika dalam menciptakan konten digital untuk calon-calon konten kreator. Melalui service learning tim abdimas berharap peserta dapat menginternalisasikan materi dan direalisasikan dalam konten-konten yang diciptakan pengguna di media sosial. Berdasarkan pretest dan posttest, terjadi perubahan dalam pengetahuan siswa tentang etika digital dalam menciptakan konten. Berdasarkan diskusi yang dilakukan dengan peserta, terdapat perubahan signifikan dalam peningkatan wawasan tentang etika digital dan jenis-jenis pelanggaran di ruang digital.

Abstract

The Constitutional Court's decision regarding the age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates wasratified which resulted in a new decision to remain at a minimum age of 40 years but with the addition of the phrase"or has/is currently holding a position elected through general elections, including regional head elections". Thiscaused many reactions and opinions from the public, including the media, in reporting the decision. This researchaims to determine how the media frames news about the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the age limit forpresidential and vice presidential candidates on the media tempo.co and detik.com. This research uses a constructivistparadigm and qualitative research methods with analytical methods framing Robert N. Entman model. The results ofthis research show that tempo.co frames the news by highlighting critical news by considering the decision as apolitical, legal and nepotism problem. Meanwhile, detik.com framed the news by highlighting the news of theConstitutional Court's decision which considered the decision to be a problem of the lack of opportunities given toyoung people in leadership in Indonesia to become leaders.
