Abstract

As a result of increasing population, the quantity of solid waste is continuing to grow. The most common method for the disposal of solid waste is landfilling. However, huge negative environmental impacts such as odor, dust, contamination of groundwater are among the problems that arise due to disposal of solid waste in landfill sites. Therefore, reduction of solid waste going to landfill is important issue to implemented. Achievement of this target depends upon active waste minimization being practices by all part of the community. This community service program was conducted in Karang Pule, Sekarbela district, Mataram. The aims of the activity were to provide knowledge and increasing public awareness regarding to the urgency of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill sites, utilizing waste as much as possible through reduce, reuse, recycling (3R) in accordance with the principles of waste management hierarchy towards zero waste. In addition, the process of utilizing organic waste into compost for plant fertilizers was demonstrated. The community service program was also carried out by involving the participants on composting process. The results of the evaluation showed that the participants were very interested and understood the material provided.

Abstract

A porous asphalt mixture is a type of pavement that allows water to drain through, thereby reducing the amount of surface runoff and improving road safety. To drain water quickly, porous asphalt is dominated by coarse aggregate so that the voids in the mixture become larger. Draindown, which is the loss of asphalt binder from the mixture, can cause blockages and reduce the ability of the pavement to drain rainwater. The use of modified asphalt is expected to increase the bonding between the asphalt and aggregate to withstand loading but meet draindown requirements. The pine resin used as an asphalt modifier in this study was 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%, whereas the percentage of gumrosin was 4% by weight of the modified asphalt. Modified asphalt testing includes the penetration, softening point, ductility, and weight loss. The mixing process of the aggregate with modified asphalt was carried out at 160 °C with asphalt contents of 4.5%, 5%, and 5.5% by weight of the asphalt mixture. The results showed that the penetration value, ductility, and weight loss of the modified asphalt increased, while the softening point decreased with the addition of pine resin. In general, the physical properties of the modified asphalt have a significant effect on the draindown value. Referring to the draindown specifications of the porous asphalt mixture (0.3 %), this requirement is fulfilled in all modified asphalt compositions and asphalt contents used in this study.

Abstract

To anticipate the potential trends of traffic problems in the future, a series of traffic management and engineering efforts need to be carried out on the roads in Sumbawa Regency (Sumbawa Besar). This study aims to obtain a traffic study of the road segments in Sumbawa Regency to implement traffic management and engineering. The study was conducted on six road segments using inventory surveys and Traffic Counting (TC), as well as 21 intersections using inventory surveys and Classified Turning Moving Counting (CTMC), which were then analyzed using the PTV Vissim application. Based on the analysis, the results indicate that the signal cycle change scenario can improve the level of service at signalized intersections. In addition, a comparison was made between alternatives and existing conditions in traffic safety management, which resulted in better existing conditions.
