Abstract

Along with the increasingly modern developments, higher education has a significant contribution to improving the quality of human resources. However, the lack of student motivation to continue on to tertiary education is one of the indicators that we need to address. This activity aims to motivate MA/SMA/SMK students to continue their studies at tertiary institutions and official services, as well as to increase knowledge, understanding, and master strategies for passing into PTN and official services in 2022. This activity is carried out ONLINE through virtual zoom meetings and whatsapp group, targeting MA/SMA/SMK students. The stages of carrying out this activity, 1) Preparation by the service team and the ILBG Galileo Jember team, 2) online webinars every Sunday, especially on January 16, January 23, and February 6 2022, 3) Online assistance through washtapp ghroup, 4) Evaluation, 5) Reporting. The expected results of this activity include, 1) Increased motivation of MA/SMA/SMK students to enter tertiary institutions and official services, 2) Increased student understanding of strategies for passing to PTN and official services, 3) Increased student mastery in understanding material and test questions selection to enter tertiary institutions and official services, 4) students better understand how to choose the right major strategy.

Abstract

Background: In conditions of uncertainty and anxiety about pandemic conditions, children still have the right to have the opportunity to grow and develop optimally, both cognitively, mentally, and socially. Parents, as the primary caregivers of children at home and who hold the main responsibility for the growth and development of early childhood children, should meet the basic needs of children's growth and development. The basic needs of children's growth and development consist of 3 main aspects: Fostering, Asih, and Asah. Purpose: This study aims to analyze parenting behavior to fulfill early childhood growth and development needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: This research was conducted at Al Amien Jember Kindergarten from August to November 2020. The population in this study is all 282 parents of Al Amien Jember Kindergarten students. The sample size calculation uses the formula from Snedecor and Cochran with a sample size of 72 parents. Result: The results showed that most parents with good knowledge (80,56%) and good attitudes (80,56%) had good basic needs fulfillment behavior. The results of statistical analysis using the Spearman correlation test show a significant relationship between parental knowledge (p-value = 0.003) and parental attitudes (p-value = 0.000) with the behavior of fulfilling the basic needs of early childhood. Conclusion: Knowledge and attitudes of parents related to the parental behavior in meeting the basic needs of early childhood development. This study contributes to parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic so that children's growth and development remain optimal.

Abstract

Background: High maternal mortality rates remain challenging in developing countries such as Indonesia. These maternal deaths are preventable with appropriate management and care. Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is a crucial strategy for making prompt decisions to seek care resulting in reduced maternal mortality. Jember regency is one of the districts that rank first until the end of 2021 with the highest death rate in East Java and nationally.  Objectives: This study aims to assess the proportion of BPCR practices and the aspect of BPCR in pregnant women. Methods: This descriptive research was conducted among pregnant women in the working area of Panti Primary Health Service, Jember Regency as Primary Health Services with the highest maternal mortality rate in Jember regency in 2020. This study was conductedfrom August to November 2021. A total of 110 pregnant women were recruited by simple random sampling. The respondents were interviewed using the BPCR index, adapted from the John Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics to identify nine indicators of BPCR.Results: The proportion of good BPCR in pregnant women was 60,00%. The most mentioned aspect of BPCR was planning transportation (89,10%) and planning to give birth with a skilled provider (82,7%). The elements that pregnant women are least prepared for are aware of the danger signs during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Conclusions: The proportion of good BPCR among pregnant women was moderate. Community-based health education about preparation for birth and awareness of danger signs during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum is crucial to prevent maternal mortality.

Abstract

Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for atherosclerosis. Dyslipidemia conditions and malondialdehyde (MDAs) increased can cause oxidative stress. Cinnamon contains antioxidant compounds that have a hypolipidemic effect. This study aimed to determine the effect of cinnamon bark ethanol extract on triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and MDA in dyslipidemic rats. In this study, rats were divided into five groups, a negative control group: which received standard feed, a positive control group: which received a high-fat diet and PTU, the groups that received a high-fat diet, PTU, cinnamon bark ethanol extract (EECB) 125 mg/Kg BW, 250 mg/Kg BW, 500 mg/Kg BW. The results of the analysis showed a decrease in triglyceride levels in all groups given EECB (p <0.05). Total and LDL cholesterol levels decreased in the 125 mg/Kg BW EECB group, and malondialdehyde decreased in the 500 mg/Kg BW EECB group (p <0.05). HDL levels did not increase. The ethanol extract of cinnamon bark was able to improve lipid profiles because it contains cinnamaldehyde and quercetin that can inhibit HMG CoA reductase activity, as well as flavonoids, tannins, and cinnamate which are able to reduce triglyceride and MDA levels. Keywords: cinnamon, dyslipidemia, malondialdehyde, lipid profile.
