Abstract

The health problem that is often experienced by adolescents is dental and oral hygiene, RISKESDAS data for 2018, 57.6% of Indonesian people have dental and oral health problems. Gingival problems are common in adolescents. Lack of dental and oral hygiene causes gingival inflammation. Plaque, bacteria, and calculus that accumulate on the tooth surface are the main causes of periodontal disease. Early detection that is carried out independently as well as providing solutions for prevention and treatment to patients is very necessary. Media that is currently developing among adolescents is technology-based media which is increasingly creative and can be a solution for preventing dental disease. Proving appropriate information technology-based educational videos and their effective application to changes in gingival health status in adolescents. The research method used is Research and Development (RnD) with Quasy Experiment pre-test post-test control group design. Educational video based on information technology is appropriate for changes in gingival health status with the results of expert validation of 83% and p-value 0.044 and its application is effective in increasing knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.002), skills (p=0.000), GI (p = 0.001). As well as indicated by the delta value of knowledge (2.14), attitude (1.29), skills (2.14), decreased GI score (0.44) compared to the control group. Educational videos have proven to be appropriate and effective in their application to changes in gingival health status in adolescents marked by a decrease in the gingival index score.

Abstract

Children with special needs (ABK) are children with limited development of physical and mental conditions characterized by behavior or emotions. In this case, a child with disabilities is a child who has abnormalities or defects in the muscular, bone, joint and nervous systems caused by diseases, viruses, accidents both before birth, at birth and after birth. Limitations that become obstacles in brushing teeth in a good and correct way cause high dental and oral health problems in children with disabilities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using elastomeric toothbrushes to improve brushing skills and reduce debris index rates in children with disabilities. The assessment of this program uses a health system approach, namely: Input – Process – Output. The results of toothbrushing skills in children with disabilities were found significant changes between the results before and after the intervention with statistical tests paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon with p-values of 0.001 and 0.017 (<0.05) respectively, which means that the use of toothbrushes made from elastomers is effective for improving brushing skills and reducing debris index in children with disabilities. The problem solving program for children with disabilities in SLBN Jepara is to implement innovative toothbrush models with elastomer materials for children with disabilities and conduct training on how to brush teeth properly and correctly for children with disabilities

Abstract

Visual impairment can lead to challenges in maintaining oral hygiene for visually impaired people. Individuals with visual impairment have a higher risk of experiencing oral health problems compared to those with normal vision. This limitation is one of the inhibiting factors for blind people in obtaining knowledge about oral health, which in turn will affect their attitudes and actions in maintaining oral hygiene. The sensitivity of blind children is in one of their senses, namely sensitivity to sound through their hearing. Based on these problems, an innovation was made in the form of Smart Card With Audio Connection media to improve the teeth brushing skills of blind children. In the implementation of this activity, through several stages, namely the preparation stage (including licensing and preparation of officers), the implementation stage (pretest of tooth brushing skills and dental hygiene status, training to teachers, and simulation of brushing teeth using Smart Card with Audio Connection), and the evaluation stage (including post test of tooth brushing skills and dental hygiene status). This activity is 17 blind children in SLB Negeri Jepara. The results of the activity show that the Smart Card With Audio Connection Model is effective in improving the teeth brushing skills and dental hygiene status of visually impaired children.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems are often experienced by children with special needs. Limitations in physical and mental development can affect the process of maintaining dental and oral health. Children with special needs in the disabled group have disorders where their body parts are not perfect because they experience disabilities caused by damage to the bones, muscles, and joints so that they do not function normally. The shortcomings of children with physical impairments require parental assistance in maintaining dental and oral health. Providing counseling and giving pocketbooks to parents is an alternative to strengthening the maintenance of dental and oral health for children with physical impairments. This community service activity was carried out at SLB Jepara on a sample of children with physical impairments. The method used in this activity is the Health system approach, namely: Input – Process – Output. The results of the service carried out showed a decrease in the debris index value in children. The good debris index category after implementation was obtained by all respondents. The dental and oral hygiene pocketbook for parents of physically disabled children is used as a tool to increase parents' knowledge about dental and oral health and hygiene.

Abstract

Indonesia faces serious challenges in dental and oral health and nutrition, with dental caries, stunting, and obesity remaining major public health problems among children. Schools play a crucial role in shaping children’s health behaviors through structured health education and interventions. The School Health Program model “SEGIGIKU” was developed to enhance the involvement of teachers, peers, and parents in improving oral health behavior and nutrition awareness as preventive measures against dental caries, stunting, and obesity in preschool children. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the “SEGIGIKU” School Health Program model as an effort to improve oral health behavior and nutrition awareness among preschool children. This research employed a research and development (R&D) design, consisting of stages of information gathering, program design, expert validation, product testing, and final product development. The results showed a consistent weekly increase in students’ weight and height. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test demonstrated a highly significant improvement in dental hygiene, as indicated by the PHPM score (p = 0.000), and a significant reduction in dental caries, as reflected by the decay score (p = 0.002). In conclusion, the “SEGIGIKU” School Health Program model effectively improves oral health behavior and nutrition awareness, which are closely interconnected, and contributes to the prevention of dental caries, stunting, and obesity in preschool children.
