Abstract

Yasunari Kawabata is a Japanese writer who won the Nobel Prize in literature. One of his most popular novels entitled Snow Country is full of Japanese cultural values. The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the novel Snow Country reflects the life and culture of Japanese society. The method used is descriptive qualitative which describes and analyzes the collected data taken from the quotations of the novel. In analyzing the data, the writers use the mimetic approach and the concept of culture by Hammersley (2019) to reflect aspects of Japanese culture in literary works based on reality. The result of the study proves that the cultural depiction in Snow Country is in accordance with the cultural reality that exists in Japan, and based on the concept of culture by Hammersley, the culture found in this novel are divided in the form of Japanese cultural tools, cultural environment and the life of Geisha. The Japanese cultural tools including traditional drink ‘Sake’, traditional clothes/dress ‘Kotatsu, Kimono and Yukata’, art ‘Kabuki’ and music ‘Shamisen’, art or mode of Japanese houses in Daimyo Period, Traditional Japanese Houses ‘Shouji Sliding Doors’ and ‘Tatami’. Japanese cultural environments are found by the depiction of situations in Hot Springs ‘Onsen’, habits of Japanese society in autumn and winter. Abstract

Linguistic landscape is a practice of using language in public spaces. This research describes the use of language found in the labeling of historical heritage objects, especially those stored at the Madura Mandhilaras Pamekasan Museum (MMP), using a linear landscape approach. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods which will explain the use of language along with the percentage of language variants at the Mandhilaras Pamekasan Museum. The objects taken from this museum are 200 photographs that have been captured. of these photos, the number of labels that use monolingualism is 23, then those that use bilingualism are 35, while those that use it are 0. These photos will later be discussed from two discussion elements, namely Monolingualism, Bilingualism and Multilingualism to be used as an analysis. The research results show that the language used is dominantly monolingual. In essence, language use that uses one language is considered monolingual, while those that use two languages include bilingual, and finally if you use 3 languages, it is considered multilingual. Abstract

The Jakarta Post as one of online media can be used as a media for practicing English. The research is aimed to find what kinds of phrase used in the title of the headline news in the Jakarta Post online and to analyze the phrase construction on the title of the headline news in the Jakarta Post online. A descriptive research method is used in the phrase structure analysis on the title of the headline news in the Jakarta Post online. The data source of the study is obtained from the title of the headline news in the Jakarta Post online from January 2023 to May 2023. In the collecting the data, the writer reads the text then classifies it into phrase based on their types. It is called the documentation. Besides, the writer also used note taking. Method agih used to analyze the data. The result of the research shows that three phrases, namely noun phrase, verb phrase, and gerundive phrase. Keywords: phrase structure, headline news, Jakarta post online
