Abstract

(English)This research aims to reveal the level of PF of students in ten JHS based on the results of PE teachers' performance based on four competencies. Fitness of JHS students in the city of Pekanbaru and the influence of PE teacher performance on fitness student physical. An Ex Post Facto approach was used in this survey research. The instrument to see the performance of PE teachers is to use a questionnaire. Meanwhile, to measure students' PF, the test used is the bleep test. The principal, deputy principal for public relations, deputy principal for curriculum, and one student in class VIII (eight) whose physical fitness data was taken randomly from each school were used as samples in this study. The results of this research include: (1) the performance of JHS PE teachers in Pekanbaru City has met expectations because the four competencies are in the very good category, where personality competency has the highest percentage, (2) Lack of PA inside and outside school will causes low PF of students (Vo2Max), (3) From the results of the regression test which shows a figure of 14.3%, it shows that the high quality of PE teachers' performance does not have a direct impact on students' PF. The conclusion of this research is that the competence of PE teachers does not have a significant impact on students' PF levels because there are other factors that influence it, such as the level of active participation of students inside and outside school. These findings recommend, among other things: (1) the need for consistency in the quality of PE teachers and the professionalism of teachers in schools, (2) the need to maintain the quality of students' PF to improve the quality of life, (3) the need to determine or select PE materials that are adapted to the characteristics of children so that students can be more active in the learning process so that the goals of PE are achieved. Abstract

Background: Efficient recovery after high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and minimizing the risk of injury. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of combining hydrotherapy contrast baths and full-body massage in accelerating physiological recovery after a HIIT session, compared to the application of a single method. Methods: This study employed a pre–post quasi-experimental design with three parallel groups (n = 45; 15 participants per group) to analyze the effectiveness of hydrotherapy combined with whole-body massage compared with each method applied separately. Participants were assigned to one of three conditions: (1) hydrotherapy contrast bath only, (2) full-body massage only, and (3) a combined intervention using both techniques. Physiological recovery was assessed using validated instruments, including heart rate monitors for heart rate recovery (HRR), portable lactate analysers for blood lactate concentration, and a visual analogue scale (VAS) for perceived muscle soreness. Data were analysed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, paired-sample t-test, and One-Way ANOVA. Results: The findings demonstrated that the combined hydrotherapy–massage protocol resulted in greater improvements than the single-method groups, particularly in lactate reduction (e.g., -3.1 ± 0.8 mmol/L vs. - 1.9 ± 0.7 mmol/L and - 2.0 ± 0.6 mmol/L; p<0.05) and faster HRR. Participants in the combined group also reported significantly lower muscle soreness (p<0.05). Conclusions: This suggests that integrating contrast bath hydrotherapy with full-body massage enhances circulation, accelerates metabolic waste clearance, and improves subjective recovery following HIIT. Future studies are recommended to include larger samples, compare different hydrotherapy temperatures, or examine long-term adaptations from repeated recovery sessions.

Abstract

Psychological factors such as anxiety and mental toughness play an important role in competitive sports, particularly during high-pressure selection processes. Studies on psychological predictors in internal sports selection remain limited. This study aims to examine the relationship between competition anxiety, mental toughness, and competition performance. Performance was assessed through two measures: subjective performance (self-perceived performance) and match outcomes in the internal selection process. This study used a correlational quantitative design. A total sampling technique was applied, in which all male student-athletes registered in the internal selection were invited to participate, resulting in 23 male badminton student-athletes from a university in Surabaya, Indonesia, participating in the study. The research instruments used were the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2), the Mental Toughness Questionnaire-10 (MTQ-10), and subjective performance and match outcome measures. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and Spearman's rank correlation tests. Pearson correlation results showed a relationship between competition anxiety and subjective performance (r = -0.708, p < 0.05) and between mental toughness and subjective performance (r = 0.606, p < 0.05). Spearman's rank correlation results showed a relationship between competition anxiety and match outcomes (r = -0.451, p < 0.05), while mental toughness showed no significant relationship with match outcomes (r = 0.249, p > 0.05). These findings indicate that competition anxiety and mental toughness are significantly related to subjective performance. However, when performance is evaluated based on match outcomes, only competition anxiety shows a significant relationship, indicating that competition anxiety has a greater influence on match outcomes in internal selection contexts.

Abstract

Data keterlibatan orang tua dikumpulkan menggunakan Parent Involvement in Sport Questionnaire, sedangkan kecakapan hidup diukur menggunakan Life Skills Scale for Sport.
