Abstract

Rearing insects such as dragonflies and damselflies aim to gain uniform progeny that used for scientific purposes. In Indonesia, unfortunately, this rearing type is not yet common which suggests the time for its initiation. This study has objective to define the type of rearing cage for Agriocnemis femina damselfly (Odonata, Zygoptera, Coenagrionidae). It was conducted descriptively by using two smalls (9 x 13 x 23 cm), four medium (14 x 15 x 22 cm) and two larges (20 x 23 x 33 cm) size boxes as cage setups, with or without ornamental plants in it. The feeding was with limited (10-15 Drosophila flies provided per day) and unlimited provision. Data was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that A. femina lived normally, including eating and mating, within the large cage setup equipped with ornamental plants and unlimited feeding.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah Sokaraja in relation to the mathematical anxiety they experienced. This research was conducted as qualitative field research, with data collected at SMP Muhammadiyah Sokaraja. The subjects of the study were students from Class VII B. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and problem-solving tests. The tests were administered to assess students' mathematical problem-solving abilities, which were then categorized into three levels: low, moderate, and high. Students were subsequently observed and interviewed regarding their experiences of mathematical anxiety. These observations and interviews were conducted over three meetings. The findings revealed that students with low problem-solving abilities tended to experience mathematical anxiety in the form of difficulty speaking or trembling voices, dependence on peers, frequent help-seeking, dislike of mathematics, and heart palpitations. Students in the moderate category exhibited anxiety such as dizziness, heart palpitations, and fear of failure. Meanwhile, students in the high category of mathematical problem-solving ability tended to experience anxiety only in the form of worry or fear of failure.

Abstract

This study aimed to test the effectiveness of Bruner’s theory-guided discovery learning in enhancing the mathematical reasoning ability of elementary school students. The study was done with a quasi-experimental design and an experimental group instructed with discovery learning based on Bruner’s theory was compared with a control group instructed expositively. he population of this study consisted of elementary schools (SD/MI) in Banyumas Regency with accreditation levels A and B, totaling 38 schools. Using a stratified random sampling technique, four schools were selected—each representing schools with accreditation A and B—and were assigned as the experimental and control groups. The findings indicate that the experimental group significantly enhanced the ability to identify patterns, generalize, and construct and test mathematical arguments compared to the control group. However, the post-test scores suggest that students’ reasoning abilities in the experimental group have not reached a maximum point, possibly because they had not been exposed to enough experience in exploratory learning. The ANOVA test also failed to reveal any significant interaction between school accreditation category and instruction type on the student’s mathematical reasoning ability. With well-planned deployment and even more tailored to students’ characteristics, Bruner’s theory-guided discovery learning has immense potential to improve the quality of mathematics education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

The increasing human population, the use of fossil energy such as oil also increases. While fossil energy is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions that can cause climate change that can be done to control climate change is to switch to the use of renewable energy. The investigation takes the shape of a vertical axis Savonius turbine blade design. The blades are made of a composite material called carbon fiber, and the number of blades varies between 4, 6, and 8 pieces. The study's findings were tested utilizing a blower-generated wind source with wind speeds of 4m/s, 4.5m/s, and 5m/s. A wind tunnel consisting of acrylic material and pipes as a frame construction was used in the test. The test findings show that turbine blades with a total of four blades produce the maximum generator power of 0.274 watts at a wind speed of 5 m/s. Meanwhile, the turbine blade with 8 blades has the lowest output power at a wind speed of 4 m/s and a power value of 0.0028 W. Then, with 8 blades, it has a relatively low output energy compared to 4 and 6 blades. Therefore, the highest efficiency performance of wind turbine use is achieved by a turbine with a number of 4 blades with a maximum efficiency is 9,16% and the minimum efficiency it seen in a wind turbine with a number of blades 8 within 0,07%.

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between understanding mathematical concepts and mathematical values among prospective teachers at a state university in Central Java. The research employed a qualitative approach with content analysis, involving a mathematical concept understanding test and in-depth interviews with students at high, medium, and low ability levels. The results show that students with high ability tend to possess strong mathematical values like accuracy, perseverance, and curiosity, which enable them to grasp complex mathematical concepts. In contrast, students with low ability struggle to comprehend basic mathematical concepts and often rely on rote calculation and formula use. The findings suggest that differentiated learning strategies are necessary to cater to the diverse levels of mathematical concept understanding among prospective teachers. Enhancing mathematical values can be a key factor in improving conceptual understanding in mathematics education.
