Abstract

The need for electrical energy in the public building sector is quite dominant, reaching 33-40% of the total energy consumption of all sectors. To control electrical energy in buildings effectively, an Energy Management System (EMS) is needed. EMS stage consists of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA). The study conducted in this research is on how to use the PDCA cycle method to model the consumption of electrical energy in campus buildings in a sustainable manner. Modeling of energy-efficient electrical loads is formed in several ways: modeling by replacing T8 fluorescent lamps and CFLs with LED, modeling by replacing non-inverter AC with inverter AC, modeling by the number of library visitors, modeling by improving the power factor, and finally, modeling with a combination of the four previous models. Modeling using LEDs results in savings of 1,464 kWh per month; inverter AC modeling saves 1742 kWh per month; modeling by adjusting the number of visitors saves 857 kWh per month; and modeling by improving the power factor saves 56 kWh per month. This electrical load modeling can save up to 8 kW of power outside of the library's operating hours. Meanwhile, during operational hours, the modeling library can save up to 30 kW of electric power

Abstract

Abstract

Real-time environmental monitoring is an important requirement for managing facilities, laboratories, server rooms, and work environments that require temperature and humidity control. This study aims to develop and evaluate the performance of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based environmental monitoring system using ESP32 microcontrollers, DHT11 sensors, the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, Node-RED, and a MySQL database. The system is designed to acquire temperature and humidity data, transmit data via Wi-Fi using MQTT, display real-time measurement results on the Node-RED dashboard, and store historical data into a MySQL database. Testing was carried out with a data transmission interval of every 5 seconds using MQTT QoS 0. The test results showed that the system was capable of continuous monitoring, with a measured temperature range of 27.1–28.5 °C and a relative humidity range of 44–51% RH. Sensor data was successfully transmitted, visualized, and stored in real-time without any loss of observed data during the test period. The Node-RED dashboard can display information as gauges, trend graphs, and historical tables, facilitating the monitoring and analysis of environmental data. The integration of ESP32, MQTT, Node-RED, and MySQL produces a stable, low-cost, easy-to-develop monitoring system with potential for implementation in various IoT-based environmental monitoring applications. The results of the study indicate that the proposed architecture can provide a reliable environmental monitoring solution and support real-time, data-driven decision-making.

Abstract

Water Plan (WP) is a clean water treatment unit that supplies water for residential areas, offices, and factory operations at PT Semen Padang. One of the main issues faced by WP is the low water level in the canal due to inadequate monitoring by operators, which can lead to operational disruptions and even production shutdowns. This study aims to develop a clean water supply control strategy by implementing an automatic monitoring system using a level switch based on the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle. The research method begins with problem identification through an analysis of the operator's logbook, followed by determining priorities and root causes using the Strategic Risk Severity Matrix and the Nominal Group Technique (NGT). Improvement implementation is carried out by installing a level switch and an alarm in the operator room to ensure automatic water level monitoring. The evaluation results indicate a significant improvement in water supply quality, a reduction in operational disruption risks, and maintenance cost efficiency, with potential water savings reaching 450,000 m³ per month and a reduction in pump repair costs of Rp. 25,000,000. The implementation of this PDCA-based system has proven effective in enhancing the reliability of the clean water supply and supporting continuous improvement in WP PT Semen Padang. In the future, a similar approach can be applied to optimize water resource management in other industrial sectors.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a breast cancer detection model using two distinct approaches: the Naive Bayes algorithm for classification and the K-Means algorithm for clustering. The methodology involves the collection of diagnostic clinical feature data, data preprocessing for normalization, and the separate training and evaluation of each model. Naive Bayes is employed to classify breast cancer as malignant or benign based on training and testing datasets, while K-Means is applied to unlabeled data as an additional analytical method. The performance of the Naive Bayes classifier is assessed using a confusion matrix, whereas the clustering results from K-Means are evaluated based on cluster validity metrics. The results indicate that Naive Bayes achieves a high level of accuracy (93%) in breast cancer classification, while K-Means offers additional insights through data pattern clustering. Together, these approaches demonstrate potential to effectively support the medical diagnostic process.

Abstract

This study presents a simulation-based analysis of 2.4 GHz rectangular microstrip patch antenna for sensing sugar content in aqueous solutions. The antenna was designed and simulated using software with performance evaluated based on return loss and resonance frequency shifts in response to changes in the dielectric properties of the sugar solution. The primary objective was to assess the sensitivity of the rectangular microstrip antenna to variations in sugar concentration. The result show that the antenna exhibits measurable resonance frequency shifts as the sugar content in the solution increases, indicating the potential of microstrip antennas as effective, non-invasive sensors for liquid concentration monitoring. These findings contribute to the development of microwave-based sensing technologies, offering insights into the application of microstrip patch antennas for sugar detection and other similar application.

Abstract

The cement production process consumes a significant amount of energy, particularly during the clinker burning stage. This stage generates high-temperature exhaust gases. Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation (WHRPG) technology captures this waste heat from the kiln to generate electricity; however, its efficiency largely depends on the quality of demineralized water. This study focuses on improving demineralized water quality through the implementation of a centralized control system based on the Plan, Do, Check, Action (PDCA) method. In the Plan phase, the root causes identified were delays in performing water regeneration and manual control of the demineralization process. As an alternative solution to these dominant causes, a centralized control system was proposed for the demineralizer area, located in the control room. The results show that the centralized system effectively reduced water conductivity to below 2 µS/cm, in accordance with the required standards. This improvement led to financial benefits of IDR 300,672,000 per year through reduced water replacement and boiler damage. Additionally, it provided non-financial benefits such as simplified operations and reduced maintenance needs. The established standards for input, process, and output contribute to the continuous improvement of WHRPG operational efficiency, thereby supporting more effective energy management in the cement industry.
