Abstract

Abstract

Ecological studies related to socio-economic and community roles in imaginary line of the Sultan's Palace need to be undertaken to design a proper management and conservation model. The purpose of this study is to examine the perception and participation of the community in the effort of preserving the trees around the imaginary line of the Sultan's Palace, as well as its supporting and inhibiting factors. The research conducted from April 2017 to November 2017. Data collection was done by observation and interview. Data processing is done by interpretation analysis using related reference. The results show that people's perception of trees around the imaginary line of their existence is very important, needs to be maintained, and preserved in order to function properly. Forms of community participation include maintaining the sustainability of the trees by replanting the fallen, nurturing, and not doing destructive activities. Product of trees around the imaginary line like fruit and wood are not entirely usable. Supporting factors are local wisdom, active role, and cooperation with stakeholders & local government. Factors inhibiting the economic function of trees around the imaginary line is less, knowledge of human resources is still low, and the responsibility of the region is less clear due to the absence of good preservation procedures. The conclusion of this research is the perception and participation of the community to support the effort of preserving the trees around the imaginary line of Kraton Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Analysis of Potential Biology Learning Resources Based on The Result of Ethnobotanic Research on Wedding Processions in Magelang district. This research is about the ethnobotany of weddings in the Magelang Regency community to find out the wedding procession and the use of plants and their meaning, the style of wedding traditions and to analyze the potential of biological learning resources based on research results. This research is qualitative research with 5 sources as research subjects. The object of this research is plants used in wedding processions. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation using interview and observation guide instruments. The data analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis and analysis of potential biology learning resources. The results of the research show that there are 20 traditional wedding processions in Magelang Regency, although not all people use the 20 processions for financial and practical reasons. There are 25 Spermatophyta plants, all of which are included in Angiospermae. The parts of the plants used in the wedding procession are 13 leaves, 6 stems, 4 seeds, 6 flowers, 3 fruits, and 1 shoot with the largest tribe being Fabaceae, namely, 6 plants. The pattern of wedding traditions in Magelang Regency is more similar to the procession in Surakarta with 17 similar processions. The meaning of all the plants used is the hope that the wedding will run smoothly. Analysis of the research results shows that this research has the potential to be a source of learning biology, but cannot be associated with the Plantae material in KD 3.8 and is more suitable as enrichment material.

Abstract

Ethnobotany is the study of plants from the point of view of local residents who still hold traditions from generation to generation. Kuthomoro tradition is a praying tradition to the ancestor by Karaton Yogyakarta, one of the kingdoms in Indonesia that still stands until today. The tradition largely uses plants as the ritual equipment, however, the research about the use of Kuthomoro context as a learning resource for senior high school biology learning is still limited. This study aims to determine the types of plants and the symbolic meanings used in the Kuthomoro tradition in the ancient tomb of Giriloyo and Imogiri. This study also identified the potential resources of biology learning for 10th-grade senior high school. It was a qualitative research, involving 6 respondents from juru kunci (the key keeper) and abdi dalem (Kingdom’s employee) of Giriloyo and Imogiri tomb. The objects of this research are flowers and traditional dishes called ubarampe usually used for offering in Kuthomoro tradition. We used observation, in-depth interview, and documentation to collect the data, and used descriptive technique for the data analysis referring to Djohar’s criteria to study the potential biology learning sources. The results showed that there were 44 types of plants used in Giriloyo and 50 types of plants used in Imogiri for the ubarampe offering purposes. The symbolic meaning of the plants used in this tradition is a prayer and wishes that the ancestors’ sin would be forgiven and get a better condition in the afterlife. The various types of plants used in both tombs can be used as a resource for senior high school biology learning.
