Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Tradition of Treatment of MambangDeo-deo in the View of the Islamic Faith in the PenghuluanTelukPulai District, PasirLimauKapas District, RokanHilir Regency". This tradition is a treatment that is carried out with the supernatural power of a bomo or shaman, by summoning a supernatural being or called Mambang who is considered to be able to treat or cure a sick patient. This study uses a qualitative method and conducts research in a field research that comes from religious leaders, bomo or shamans from the treatment of MambangDeo-deo, and the chairman of the Malay Traditional Institute. Then supported by literature studies related to theoretical opinions. Allah swt does tell his creatures to try, because without effort it is impossible to achieve anything, as well as in the case of treatment for every disease there is a cure, if treated with Allah's permission, it will heal. However, sometimes there are deviations in carrying out treatment and contrary to Islamic creed, as contained in the MambangDeo-deo medical tradition where in practice there are deviations that have the potential to be doubtful (unclear). In carrying out treatment, it should be done without violating the rules of Islamic law. This shows that medical practices that are contrary to the main teachings of Islam must be rejected because they are contrary to Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The entire order of life has experienced social changes and a shift in values, including the traditional speech of the Gayo community, known as "Perimestik" in Islam. The speech is Islamic philosophy's correct, wise, and rational value system. However, it is fading and disappearing due to the influence of technology and globalization. This Perimestike could be used as a philosophy of Islamic life for the Gayo community, referring to Islamic Shari'a. Therefore, this study aimed to examine how Perimestike is a value system of Islamic philosophy in social interaction with the Indonesian Gayo community. Using qualitative, inductive, deductive, and holistic methods, the results showed that Perimestike contains Islamic philosophical, ethical, and moral values or Al-Adab. It is a sacred value system of Islamic philosophy mandated by the tribe’s ancestors to be maintained, realized, and preserved. The system is preserved in line with Islamic teachings according to the customary word “Syariet urum edet lagu zet urum sifet,” meaning “Shari'a and customs are like substances with properties." It is also in line with “Syariet ibarat empus, edet ibarat peger,” meaning “Shari'a is like a garden, the custom is like a fence." However, Perimestike has experienced a shift in values from customary rules and is no longer in harmony according to Islamic philosophy. This is because the Qur'an has the word "qauluzzuur," which means vile (cerak enta sesanah). In “Sumang Peceraken," speaking contrary to Islamic philosophy, customs, Shari'a, and customary manners (jis/jengkat), are prohibited in social interaction with the Gayo Indonesia community.

Abstract

Gayo people construct collective deliberation called Genap-Mupakat, a dynamic social harmony entity as proof of local wisdom in Central Aceh. However, many people consider Genap-Mupakat a boring and time-consuming activity. Therefore, this study aimed to examine Genap-Mupakat’s importance and significant influence on oneself and others. Data were collected qualitatively through in-depth interviews. The findings showed that Gayo people’s philosophy of Genap-Mupakat fosters togetherness and justice. The system had Islamic philosophical values and was laden with knowledge, norms, rules, and laws as a reference in collective deliberation and behavior to realize social harmony. The people must adhere to these principles to avoid conflicts and hostilities. The system stated that Gayo people have the characteristics of a republic, free, and democratic society. Therefore, the philosophy promoted orderliness in collective deliberation. The Gayo adage “tertib bermajelis, umet bermulie” means that orderliness in a meeting is a prerequisite for nobility.

Abstract

Keyword: pendidikan, agama Islam, pendidikan agama Islam, boarding school

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of reason as an epistemological framework in rationalizing revelation from the perspective of Harun Nasution’s rational Islam. This study is motivated by the importance of the relationship between reason and revelation in understanding Islamic teachings amid the development of science and modernity. This study employs a qualitative method using a literature review (library research) approach. Data were obtained from the works of Harun Nasution and related literature, then analyzed using content analysis. This study is limited to a literature review of Harun Nasution’s thought. The results are expected to enrich the study of Islamic epistemology, particularly regarding the integration of reason and revelation in the development of contemporary Islamic thought. The results indicate that Harun Nasution regards reason as a crucial instrument in understanding and interpreting revelation. According to him, reason and revelation share a harmonious relationship; revelation serves as the source of absolute truth, while reason functions to explain and implement the values of revelation in daily life. The rational use of reason does not diminish the sanctity of revelation but rather strengthens the relevance of Islamic teachings to the changing times. The originality of this study lies in its focus on the epistemological function of reason in rationalizing revelation according to Harun Nasution, thereby contributing to the development of critical, open, and moderate Islamic thought.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the subjective experience of spiritual happiness among members of the Pengajian Tauhid at Jalan Suluh, Gang Sabir No. 2, Medan City. The research focuses exclusively on participants’ lived experiences derived from tauhid teachings as conveyed through lectures by the preacher (mualim). Employing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study explores the lived experience of both long-standing senior members and younger participants, each bringing distinct life challenges. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with purposively selected key informants who differed in their duration of involvement in the study circle.vFindings reveal four superordinate themes that constitute their spiritual happiness: (1) inner tranquility, (2) emotional stability, (3) discovery of life direction, and (4) the role of the majelis as a protective social identity fortress against negative peer influences. These experiential elements mutually reinforce one another, producing a holistic lived experience. Participants describe spiritual happiness as a profound sense of peace accompanied by a firm conviction that Allah will always provide a “way out” from every life difficulty.vThe study concludes that tauhid-centred religious study circles can serve as powerful spaces for cultivating spiritual well-being, offering an authentic expression of life’s meaning rooted in Allah that effectively alleviates existential anxiety, fortifies the self against harmful influences, and enables adaptive emotional self-regulation in the face of modern existential challenges.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to explore Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialist perspective on human existence, emphasizing radical freedom and the responsibility of individuals in defining their own meaning in life. The research investigates how Sartre's concept of existentialism positions humans as autonomous subjects in constructing their essence. Methodology: This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing a literature review method. The primary sources include Sartre’s major works, such as Being and Nothingness, along with secondary analyses from contemporary existentialist scholars. Data are analyzed through content analysis to examine Sartre’s views on freedom, responsibility, and self-determination. Main Findings: The findings reveal that Sartre perceives human existence as devoid of inherent meaning, compelling individuals to create their own purpose through conscious choices. His concept of bad faith illustrates the tendency to escape from existential responsibility, whereas authentic existence requires embracing radical freedom. Sartre’s framework highlights the psychological tension between autonomy and existential anxiety. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a fresh interpretation of Sartre’s existentialism by relating his views to contemporary issues of identity, freedom, and personal responsibility. It extends the discussion of existentialist ethics in modern society and provides a deeper analysis of Sartre’s influence on current philosophical and social discourses on human autonomy.
