Abstract

Abstract. Training is given to 37 students of class X at SMKN 31 Jakarta. Pre and post test was conducted before and after training, using VAS (Visual Analog Scale) and PANAS (Positive affect-negative affect schedule). The effect of the training was analyzed by counting the change of mean from pre to post test score for each scale. The result showed that there are an increased of positive emotion score means after the training, from 6.92 to 7.41 for VAS and from 3.53 to 3.81 for PANAS score. Then it may concluded that the gratitude training program improve the positive emotion of the students.

Abstract

AbstractCollege students are prone to depression so that they need to be resilient. The aim of this study is to examine whether community resilience affects resiliency among college students in Jakarta. With a quantitative approach, this study involved 265 participants, selected by convenience sampling. We applied Community Advancing Resilience Toolkit Assessment Survey (CARTAS) and Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to gather data on the variables. Reliability coefficients for CARTAS were .656 to .806 for each dimension. While the reliability coefficient for CDRIS was .881. The regression analysis revealed community resilience has a significant positive contribution to individual resilience among participants. For each dimension, the contribution of community resilience to individual resilience was 7,9% to 12,2%. This result implied the community-based approach should be considered to develop an intervention for enhancing individual resilience. Keywords:  College student; Community resilience; Resilience.

Abstract

Abstract. Lower level of health-related quality of life has the potential to be experienced by adolescents with low socioeconomic status. This condition can hamper the productivity of adolescents who will enter their productive age. For this reason, it is important to strive the enhancement of health-related quality of life among adolescents with low socioeconomic status, especially by involving the family as adolescents’microsystem. This research is important as an effort to collect empirical information that can be used in improving the health related quality of life in adolescents with low socio-economic status. We hypothesized that a functional family can help adolescents with low socioeconomic status achieve a better health-related quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the dimensions of family functioningsimultaneously have significant contribution in the health-related quality of life among adolescents from low socioeconomic status background. One hundred and nine adolescents with low socioeconomic status who live in East Kalimantan province were involved as participants in this study. Convenience sampling technique was used to select participants. Self Report Family Inventory Version II (Beavers and Hampson)was used to measure dimensions of family functioning variable. KIDSCREEN 27 (Ravens-Sieberer) was used to measure health-related quality of life variable. The data in this study were analyzed by multiple regression test. The research findings showed that simultaneously dimensions of family functioning has positive and significant contribution to health-related quality of life as perceived by participants (F= 8,320; sig p= 0.000), with total contribution 28.8%. This is shows that family strength-based approach should be added in developing intervention to enhance health-related quality of life in adolescents with low socioeconomic status. Keywords: adolescence; family functioning; health related quality of life; low social economic status.

Abstract

Abstract. Early adolescents are prone to develop an unhealthy lifestyle. Along with personal factors, the microsystem’s environment can influence individual development. This study aims to examine whether a personal factor (spirituality) and a microsystem factor (family cohesiveness) simultaneously contribute significantly to a healthy lifestyle among early adolescents. A quantitative approach was applied in thisstudy, involving 166 participants in Jakarta, selected by convenience sampling. Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.800 - 0.840), the Brief Multidimensional Measure of Religiousness/ Spirituality (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.725), and the Brief Family Relationship Scale (BFRS) – cohesiveness dimension (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.934) were employed to collect data. Multiple regression analysis revealed that spirituality and family cohesiveness simultaneously contributed significantly to the healthy lifestyle of early adolescents, with a contribution of 6.1% to 30.9%. Thus, concurrently individual and family based approaches should be considered in designing interventions to promote a healthy lifestyle in early adolescents. Keywords:  healthy lifestyle; spirituality; family cohesiveness.
