Abstract

This research analyzes meaning interpretation in the sentences of the article entitled “Islam: a Religion of Peace”. This article is analyzed using qualitative descriptive method and semantic theory. This research gives solution for the problems of how to interpret the sentences meaning of the article. This problem can be answered by using semantic theory or the theory of meaning of language. Based on the result of research, the meaning interpretation of the sentences found in the article “Islam: a Religion of Peace” are Islam is a teaching and a religion that believes in God, Prophet Muhammad pbuh. and Qur’an as the holy book. Islam has ideology of peace but there is deviation of the model (teaching of Islam).

Abstract

This research is entitled "American Selfishness as reflected in Ira Levin’s A Kiss Before Dying”. The purpose of this study is to find out cause of selfishness that reflected American Selfishness that was found in the novel “A Kiss Before Dying” by Ira Levin. The method that has been used in this research is qualitative because this method can provide accurate data. The Data obtained from the novel A Kiss Before Dying consists of 3 Parts and fifteen chapters in each part. Data is also taken from the books and journals concerned with this research. The results showed that there are 2 causes Corliss reflected American selfishness they are stubbornness and rebels, and there are 2 impacts of that selfishness itself they are greedy anddeception.

Abstract

The main problems of this research are to find the islamic values found in R.J Palacio’s “wonder”. The study used the descriptive qualitative research method. The subject of this research was R.J Palacio’s “Wonder”. The primary data of this research were experssions in words, sentences, qoutation and paragraph related to Islamic Values of manners and islamic Values of behaviour in the novel. The supporting data were obtained from some sources, such as book, article, journal and film related to manners and behaviour. In collecting data, read-write technique was used. The data analysis was conducted using islamic values approach. The result of this research show two important points. First, there are 4 types islamic values of manners that found in the novel reflected by Augie (protagonist). The second there are 4 types islamic values of behaviour in novel reflected by Augie (protagonist) namely: his behaviour towards friends explained about fairing to his friend, Augie’sbehaviour towards others explained about thangking to those who helped him and helping friend when it’s hard or happy. Augie’sbehaviour towards the elder and young people explained about how Augie’s talk to talk with older people more than him, Augie’sbehaviour toward his parents explained about his obidient and always make his parents happy.

Abstract

The antagonist’s betrayal in Nicholas Spark’s “Dear John” is the analysis of an antagonist’s betrayal named Savannah who had a boyfriend, John, as an army but she married another person named Tim instead of John, but then she confessed that she loved John again. Betrayal is a problem in human life causing a bad feeling of sadness and disappointment for the one who is betrayed. Using descriptive qualitative method,antagonist’s betrayal is found in two points. First her selfishness and secondly her love is given to another person. Her selfishness is further classified into doing something as she liked, neglecting John and being careless to Tim. Furthermore, her betrayal in loving another person is proven from her written expression through letter and her spoken confession of loving another person.

Abstract

The researcher made this paper based on my discourse analysis to the song “My Heart Will Go On” as the theme of Titanic. It was interesting to analyze this song because the researcher really like the movie (Titanic) of which this song’s as the theme. The objective of this research was to know what the main idea or information from this song whether it is appropriate with the story of this movie or not. It was a descriptive qualitative method and it used the semantic approach to analyze the song lyrics. In order the researcher can understand the meaning of the song easily, first, translating the song lyrics into Indonesian, then trying to understand the meaning of each word in this song, next, analyzing the social and cultural context of the song. The researcher also tried to give a personal response to the song based on opinion to the movie generally and to the song specifically. It is a good song. This song is really about true love. The Titanic movie gave people a stereotype every time listened to this song they would imagine that the song is from Rose for jack, her true love. The content of this song is all about love. Love did not disappear although one of them was died. They would meet and see each other in her dream every night. It seems to be impossible, but it shows us what a powerful the true love is. “My Heart Will Go On” tells us the different point of view. In this song, true love can not disappear, it’s forever in her heart.

Abstract

This article is the result of the hard work of a group of lecturers and students from the English literature study program at Al Washliyah Muslim Nusantara University and Harapan University in Medan. The goal of this community service is to find solutions to improve students' soft skills by introducing them to the linguistic landscape. The study of language use in public spaces is known as linguistic landscape. Signs on the road or notices about rules or prohibitions in specific places or areas become a linguistic landscape study. This service location was chosen based on the findings of an analysis of students at Harapan University, Medan's Faculty of Language and Communication via interview data with one of the lecturers. Based on the interview results, community service was performed at Harapan University in Medan. This activity improves students' soft skills by utilizing counseling and outreach methods regarding the linguistic landscape. The benefit of this counseling is that it helps students understand how the linguistic landscape can influence their attitudes and speech in social interactions, particularly on campus. Location surveys, obtaining permits, preparing materials, and community service training are all stages of activity. It is hoped that by participating in this activity, students at Harapan University's Faculty of Language and Communication in Medan will gain more knowledge and insight.

Abstract

The problem faced by the people of Batu Jong Jong village is the lack of knowledge about the use of bee glue or what is known as raw propolis. The aim of this service is to make it easier for people to process raw propolis, which is something that needs to be understood and understood. The method used in this service is by conducting education or education, surveys by administering questionnaires for pre-test and post-test to measure initial abilities, level of understanding of knowledge about propolis, providing socialization and training. Results: 85.71% of the village community already understands the knowledge about the use of propolis processing as a potential natural resource in Batu Jong Jong village, Bahorok District

Abstract

This research is a study in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) concentrated in Experential Process. It is analyzed in the students’ poetry writing at English Literature of Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah in the academic year of 2020/2021. By applying descriptive qualitative method, this research finds out that all of the six types of processes are realized in the students’ poetry writing. First, the students use Material Process dominantly describing actions of the actor. Secondly, another process they use is Relational Process relating a unit of language to another unit. Third, Mental Process involving senses, cognition, emotion, and perception. Fourth, in the low frequency, they used Existential process showing the existence of an entity. Fifth, Verbal process involves information of saying, asking or telling and sixth, Behavioural process is used to express humans’ behaviours.
