Abstract

This article aims to conduct an in-depth analysis related to the interest (preference) for references to the interpretation of the archipelago in the era of the Egyptian and Indian networks. The network referred to in this article is the popularity of commentary works from Egypt and India, which were discussed in Indonesia then. This study takes the case of Mahmud Yunus, Tafsir Qur’an Karim by analyzing issues of modernity. Periodically, this interpretation was written in the era of massive modern thought from Egyptian and Indian currents, both of which are evidence of the intertwining of the scientific network of Indonesian scholars with scholars from the two countries. From Egypt emerged Tafsir al-Mannar, written by Muhammad Abduh, and from India, there was the work The Holy Qur’an by Maulana Muhammad Ali, both of which contributed to the interpretation discourse in the archipelago. This article concludes that Mahmud Yunus, in his commentary, is very responsive to issues of modernity which are the trend of discussion in interpretation. Still, in his explanation, he does not mention many academic references, so he does not provide a comprehensive scientific explanation. This style is what differentiates Mahmud Yunus from Tafsir Al-Mannar and The Holy Qur’an even though it appears at the same time. Nevertheless, the author finds Mahmud Yunus blatantly quoting the opinion of Tafsir Al-Mannar for certain themes.

Abstract

AbstractAt first glance, rebuking orphans in Surah Al-Maun is a form of absolute threat to anyone who is suspected of carrying out negative actions towards them. So we are still very doubtful because on the one hand it actually has an unfavorable impact on the behavior of the orphans themselves. Responding to this case, this article attempts to explain how to re-read Surah al-Maun using Muhammad Syahrur's hudud (limitation) theory. Hudud theory itself offers a dynamic method of interpreting the Qur'an in order to continue to find the relevance of verses to the context of time and place which is divided into minimum limits and maximum limits. The method used in this research is qualitative by projecting the findings in descriptive-analytical form. This article concludes that the prohibition on rebuking orphans contained in QS Al-Maun is a maximum limit that cannot be exceeded by every Muslim so that there are certain affirmations and goals included in it. The goal to be achieved by this order is to realize benefits for the lives of orphans. This context also cannot be separated from the element of historicity at the time the verse was revealed.AbstrakMenghardik anak yatim dalam surah Al-Maun sekilas sebagai bentuk ancaman mutlak bagi siapa saja yang terindikasi melakukan tindakan negatif kepada mereka. Sehingga masih sangat sangsi karena di satu sisi justru berdampak tidak maslahat untuk perilaku anak yatim itu sendiri. Merespon kasus tersebut, artikel ini berusaha mengurai untuk membaca kembali Surah al-Maun dengan menggunakan teori hudud (limitasi) Muhammad Syahrur. Teori hudud sendiri menawarkan sebuah metode penafsiran Al-Qur’an yang dinamis agar tetap menemukan relevansi ayat dengan konteks masa dan tempat yang dibagi menjadi limit minimal dan limit maksimal. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam riset ini adalah kualitatif dengan memproyeksikan hasil temuan dalam bentuk diskriptif-analitis. Artikel ini berkesimpulan jika larangan menghardik kepada anak yatim yang termuat dalam QS Al-Maun merupakan batasan maksimal yang tidak boleh dilampaui oleh setiap muslim sehingga ada penegasan dan tujuan tertentu yang masuk di dalamnya. Tujuan yang hendak dicapai oleh perintah tersebut ialah terwujudnya kemaslahatan untuk kehidupan anak yatim. Konteks ini juga tidak bisa terpisah dari unsur historisitas pada saat ayat tersebut turun.
