Abstract

Aim: The study aimed to investigate the impact of rainwater on the acidity levelsto monitor acid deposition and identify sources of pollutant that affect the acidity concentrations of rainwater. Methodology and Results: One unit of rainwater sampler in each location was employed, andsamples were taken to the National Research and Innovation Agency laboratory (BRIN) for analysis of rainwater quality including acidity/pH degree, conductivity, and ion concentrations. The results show that high rainfall intensity (>300 mm/month) in April and December 2019 led to a decrease in electrical conductivity (<10 mS/cm) and ion compounds (>200 μmol/L) of rainwater, likely due to the dissolution/washing process of anions in the air during the rainy season and acid and alkaline neutralization in the dry season. The most identified chemical compounds were ammonium (NH4+), sulfate (SO42-), nitrate (NO3-), and salt (NaCl). Conclusion, significance, and impact study: Based on back-trajectory projections, the decline in rainwater quality was attributed to both local emissions (transportation, industry, agriculture, and waste burning) and long-range sources (earth crust, oceans, coastlines, marine activities, and anthropogenic and forest fires in the Australian territory).

Abstract

Law Number 32 of 2009 Article 57, paragraph 4C that one of the preservations of atmosphere functions regulate efforts to protect against acid rain. One of the effects of acid rain is soil damage to plants, such as what happened to paddy plants. In Indonesia, paddy is one of the priority food sources, but every year, it decreases in several regions. Aims: This study aimed at acid rain's anticipated impact on paddy plants in this case study Bandung Regency. Methodology and results: The approach method in this study is a normative juridical approach, using primary data sources obtained through interviews and journal literature. Then, secondary data from legal literature were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The study results show that the Bandung Regency Environmental Service has enforced the law. However, violations still occur by industry and society through vehicle emissions, coupled with the increase in population. One of the efforts to formulate policies to anticipate acid rain in paddy plants is to establish sanctions for violators who still pollute the environment, apply catalytic converters to vehicle exhausts that have the potential to remove NOx, carry out measurements at groundwater measurement stations, water quality information systems (manual or real-time). In addition, the irrigation policy for river water flowing on agricultural land with existing laws is being improved. Conclusion, significance, and impact study: Anticipating the impact of acid rain on rice requires various approaches, both technical and non-technical, as well as further analysis from various policy sectors.

Abstract

Missing and incomplete observations in Environmental IoT sensor networks reduce data reliability and disrupt analyses, especially for temperature and humidity time series exhibiting strong diurnal seasonality. This study develops and evaluates a seasonal imputation method to address missing data in IoT-based environmental monitoring, using a workflow of anomaly detection, outlier removal, time-of-day-aware imputation, and performance evaluation under varying missing-rate scenarios. Key challenges include sensor noise, connectivity issues, and intermittent hardware failures, which degrade data integrity and affect trend analysis, forecasting, and anomaly detection. To mitigate these, the method uses hourly and minute-level seasonal patterns after filtering out physically unrealistic values. Experimental results show high accuracy and robustness in reconstructing temperature and humidity data: temperature imputation achieves MAE values of approximately 0.86–0.87°C, and humidity yields MAE values of 3.92–4.01%RH, with no performance drop even at 50% data loss. The imputed series preserves natural diurnal dynamics without introducing distortions, effectively restoring continuity and structural consistency in environmental IoT time series for reliable modeling, feature extraction, and decision support.

Abstract

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) publish decennial reports that provide valuable insights into Indonesia's meteorological conditions and their temporal fluctuations. However, due to their narrative structure, conducting direct quantitative analysis is problematic. This study seeks to address this issue by using a transparent, repeatable natural language processing (NLP) method to identify temporal trends in climatic conditions favourable to the formation of acid rain. The collection contains 36 BMKG decadal atmospheric dynamics studies for 2025. The proposed approach entails gathering textual input, performing basic preprocessing (case normalization, character sanitization, space-based tokenization, and stop-word removal), and subsequently employing predefined keyword dictionaries for analysis. These dictionaries delineate weather conditions that either facilitate or inhibit the formation of acid rain. The scores for acid rain conditions are determined by the frequency of specific keywords, adjusted for the document's length. Subsequently, they are categorized into groups utilizing statistical thresholds derived from the mean and standard deviation of the adjusted scores. Non-parametric statistical tests are employed to examine temporal patterns with greater specificity. The findings indicate that normalized acid rain scores are elevated in the initial years of the decade, specifically 2025, before gradually declining until year-end. The Spearman rank correlation test reveals a statistically significant negative correlation between normalized scores and time (\rho = -0.494, p = 0.0022). The Mann–Kendall test indicates a significant downward trend (Z = -2.902). These results demonstrate that the climatic conditions responsible for acid rain occurred only temporarily, rather than year-round. The core element of this work is a straightforward, lexicon-based NLP approach that is easily understood, replicable, and applicable, and can transform narrative atmospheric reports into structured quantitative metrics. This is beneficial for research on atmospheric dynamics and environmental analysis with official written data.
