Abstract

Blended learning environments have become increasingly popular in higher education institutions worldwide, including in Indonesia. However, little is known about the perceptions of university students towards blended learning in rural areas of Indonesia. This study aims to explore the perceptions of university students towards blended learning environments in a rural area of Indonesia. A mixed-methods approach was used to collect data from 23 university students through surveys and interviews in three categories: learning materials, assessments, and interactive activities. Results showed that the majority of students had a positive perception of blended learning, with the convenience of learning at their own pace being the most cited benefit. The most preferred multimedia learning material is the combination of verbal materials with visual materials (69.6%). In response to assessment type, the most preferred assessment for the students in blended learning is Asynchronous tests (65.2%). In response to the most preferred interaction and collaboration activities, a regular and external digital tool like WhatsApp (73.9%). Future research should explore the effectiveness of blended learning in improving learning outcomes in rural areas of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores EFL Pre-service teachers’ perception in the implementation of the Program kampus Mengajar toward the pedagogical competence. Using descriptive qualitative method, three participants from Universitas katolik Santo Agustinus Hippo (Program Kampus Mengajar Batches 6 and 7) were purposively selected. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews, then analyzed through thematic analysis namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and source triangulation. The results showed significant improvements in five pedagogical aspects: content knowledge, knowledge of pedagogical approach, classroom management skills, student management skills, and subject management ability. The participants also reported improved adaptation of teaching strategies in 3T schools, pedagogical creativity, reflective practice, and professional skills (communication, creativity, adaptability) through authentic experiences. The study concluded that the Program Kampus Mengajar effectively bridges the theory-practice gap in disadvantaged areas, recommending a structured mentor framework, locally-appropriate 3T training modules, and longer practicum duration to optimize outcomes.

Abstract

Rapid advancements in science and technology over the past decade have greatly influenced the development of teaching materials. This accelerated progress has provided significant support to educators in enhancing the quality of both online and offline learning experiences. This study aims to develop a local wisdom-based book creator media while assessing its validity, effectiveness, and innovativeness. The research methodology employed a research and development (R&D) approach, specifically following the procedure outlined by Borg and Gall, which consists of 10 stages. However, this study focused on 8 key stages within the development process. The findings of this research indicate that the local wisdom-based book creator media demonstrate a high level of feasibility. A questionnaire was employed as the primary data collection technique to evaluate the feasibility of the media book creator. Expert assessments were obtained from media experts, material experts, and IT experts, while feedback from lecturers and students also contributed to the evaluation process. The results show that media experts evaluated it at 90%, material experts at 93%, IT experts at 95%, and student responses indicated an 85% feasibility rating, collectively suggesting the learning media to be "highly feasible" for implementation. Educators can leverage this medium to provide students with a more interactive and culturally relevant learning experience, fostering a deeper connection between academic content and their local contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the pronunciation challenges of Dayak Kanayant EFL pre-service teachers and strategies to mitigate such challenges. The present study employed a mixed methods approach. There were 10 pre-service teachers who participated in the study. For the quantitative data, the participants were asked to do voice recordings of 30 English words to identify patterns of pronunciation errors. To generate the qualitative data, in-depth interviews were conducted with participants to explore the strategies they used to overcome pronunciation challenges. Three primary categories of pronunciation problems were identified: complicated errors (6.7%), vowel errors (41%), and consonant faults (52.3%). Vowel errors frequently entailed replacing English vowels with Dayak Kanayant phonetic system-related sounds, while consonant errors included replacing /f/ and /v/ with /p/ and /b/ since these sounds are not present in their mother tongue. Consonant clusters and silent letters were among the complex errors. Participants used a variety of strategies to overcome these obstacles, such as technology-based resources (including YouTube and Google Translate), peer feedback, mimicking and repeating native speakers, and heightened awareness of how their original accent affects how they pronounce English. The study emphasizes the significance of comprehending the phonetic distinctions between the Dayak Kanayant language and English, and it recommends that pre-service teachers employ focused techniques to enhance their pronunciation.
