Abstract

It is widely argued that Grice’s theory of implicature has wide anduseful applications. Based on Grice’s Cooperative Principle and its maxims, thisstudy attempts to analyze pragmatically the conversational implicatures in film“The Vow”. The result shows that in the conversation, the four maxim areflouted. The maxims of Quantity (2, 86%) the highest score. 13 out of 22dialogues flouted this maxim. The second frequently flouted are the maxim ofrelevance and manner (1, 6%), and then followed by maxim of quality (1, 54%).These maxims are considered to be flouted based on the category and thecharacteristic given by Grice (1967). In this analysis, I argue that the step-by stepreasoning rigor of the CP and its maxims is worth being inspected by linguistsin general and pragmatiticists in particular. Abstract

This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of discovery learning in improving English writing skill of extroverted and introverted students which is compared with direct instruction as the traditional learning method. In this research, the researcher employed a quantitative research by using experimental factorial design. The population in this research was the eleventh graders of state senior high school Sale in academic year 2013/ 2014 and the samples were 20 students from both classes and categories. The try out was conducted to measure validity and reliability. And the two ways ANOVA was conducted to test the hypotheses, two-way analysis of variance with F-test at the 5% (0.05) level of significance. The result of this study revealed that the use of discovery learning was effective to the extroverted students than the introverted students. In line with it, the finding indicates that the use of direct instruction was also effective to introverted students than the extroverted students. In other words, the result of the used of discovery learning had a bigger influence to the extroverted students rather than introverted students. Abstract

This paper outlines the results of a survey which was carried out, to identify English Study Program UNIROW Tuban students’ attitudes towards learning the English language as a foreign language. The study investigated students’ motivation in terms of three motivational constructs: instrumental motivation, integrative motivation and personal motivation. In determining what attitudes college students at UNIROW have towards learning English as a foreign language. The 30 students involved in this project were from 2017A class. The students were asked to explain why they wished to become English teachers. A questionnaire and interviews were used for data collection. The students’ reasons for studying English revealed a wide array of attitudes and motivations. Surprisingly, almost half of the students exhibited negative attitudes towards learning English and entering the teaching profession. Other students demonstrated more positive attitudes. Personal reasons were also regarded as important motives by the students. However, regarding the integrative reasons, the results provided evidence that learning English as a part of the culture of its people had the least impact in students’ English language motivation. On the other hand, the data for the students’ attitudes revealed that most of students had positive attitudes towards the social value and educational status of English. Finally, some pedagogical implications that would help tap the students’ motivation and attitudes were presented. Key Words: Attitudes, Foreign Language, Learning English.

Abstract

The research was conducted to find out the implementation of blended learning in writing recount text, the result of students’ work and the students’ response toward blended learning model. This research used descriptive qualitative as the research design. The subjects are 37 students of X-Bahasa class and an English teacher. The researcher was observed the teaching and learning process using blended learning. Then, the researcher analyzed the result of students work in recount text using rubric and conducted interview with six students. The result showed that the implementation of blended was in accordance with blended learning process, namely learning design, content production and content delivery. The analysis of students’ work showed that students had developed in writing recount text. Students wrote a recount text that related with the content and structure of recount text but students still made mistakes on grammar aspects. Students’ response showed that the easy access of information and implementation of blended learning had helped them comprehend the lesson. However, the problems of using blended learning were internet network and the amount of information available on the internet.

Abstract

Salah satu permasalahan yang ada di desa Nglumber adalah kurangnya pemberdayaan bagi kelompok PKK dalam mengembangkan keterampilan dan wawasannya dalam berwirausaha. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh pengetahuan yang terbatas dan kurangnya menyadari potensi yang dimiliki desa karena sebagian besar dari para ibu masih bekerja sebagai petani dan ibu rumah tangga. Sedangkan jika sistem panen telah usai maka para ibu tidak memiliki mata pencaharian, hal ini membuat kami berinisiatif untuk melakukan pendampingan dan pemberdayaan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan bagi para ibu dalam berwirausaha melalui produk hasil olahan yang kreatif dan memiliki nilai jual. Program ini juga akan menjadi salah satu cara untuk menciptakan lapangan kerja bagi para ibu. Selain itu, produk olahan pangan lebih mudah menarik konsumen karena harga yang terjangkau dan rasa yang tidak pernah mengecewakan. Produk ini diharapkan dapat menjadi produk unggulan khas desa sehingga dapat dikembangkan dengan lebih baik karena menyadari potensi desa yang letaknya sangat strategis maka produk ini diyakini akan lebih mudah diterima di pasaran. Selain itu, potensi masyarakat desa Nglumber yang sebagian besar bekerja sebagai sales (marketing) maka proses penjualan akan lebih mudah dilakukan dan produk tersebut adalah “bola-bola cinta” yang berbahan dasar buah pisang.

Abstract

Dusun Krangkong Desa Krangkong memiliki potensi alam bambu yang melimpah. Sampai saat ini pemanfaatan bambu belum maksimal baik dari segi kuantitas dan kualitas padahal bambu dapat dijadikan berbagai kerajinan anyaman maupun non anyaman. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka dipilihlah Dusun Krangkong Desa Krangkong sebagai lokasi untuk melaksanakan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) Tujuan dilakukannya pengabdian adalah dihasilkannya kerajinan anyaman bambu ”Tampah” dengan inovasi pada jenis anyaman dan warna; Kelompok mitra pada kegiatan dapat mengaplikasikan teknik pembuatan kerajinan anyaman bambu ”Tampah” dengan beberapa jenis anyaman dan warna-warna yang menarik. Melalui inovasi produk maka nilai jual produk akan semakin tinggi; serta  terjadi peningkatan kemampuan mitra dalam memanajemen usaha yang meliputi inovasi produk, pemasaran, dan pembukuan hasil usaha. Kegiatan PKM yang dilaksanakanberupa pelatihan, dengan tahapan sebagai berikut. (1) tahap persiapan, (2) tahap pelaksanaan proses dan (3) tahap pemandirian. Pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2021 yaitu berupa kegiatan: sosialisasi pemasaran produk dan pelatihan kerajinan anyaman berbahan baku bambu. Beberapa manfaat praktis yang diharapkan dari pelaksanaan PKM, yaitu: (1) masyarakat yang menjadi pengrajin anyaman dapat mengetahui cara memasarkan produk dengan baik dan benar melalui media penjualan secara langsung maupun penjualan secara online; (2) masyarakat yang mengikuti pelatihan memperoleh gambaran yang jelas bahwa bahan baku bambu bisa di manfaatkan sebagai anyaman yang memiliki nilai jual sehingga dapat menjadi pendapatan atau lapangan pekerjaan bagi masyarakat.

Abstract

Self assessment is one of parts in assessment process. This process helps the students evaluate their own work and learning process. This study try to implement one of self assessments, namely Type Token Ratio (TTR). It calculates word repetition by deviding the total number of words in a text (tokens) by the number of individual words. This self assessment will be used to only one type of personalities, namely introverted students. The aims of the study are describing the types of token that most used by the introverted students, describing the types of token rarely used by the introverted students, and describing the introverted students opinion about Type Token Ratio (TTR) for their writing. The descriptive qualitative method was implemented in this study. the sources of the data were taken from twenty students of first semester in English Educational Program of UNISDA Lamongan. The findings showed that types of token most used by the introverted students are: nouns appear 466 times, verbs appear 266 times, pronouns appear 266 times and prepositions appear 251 times. Whereas, they rarey used: adverbs appears 171 times, determiners appears 159 times, conjunctions appear 123 times, adjectives appear 94 times and interjections appear 7 times. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the introverted students most often use noun and most rarely use interjection in their writing. Almost all of students think that TTR is good and help them to measure their vocabulary variety.Key words: Self Assessment, Writing Skill, Introverted

Abstract

Background. The use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Ubiquitous Learning in higher education is increasingly important along with the development of 21st century internet technology. Reliance on the internet for information creates a new paradigm in learning, where IoT plays a key role supporting an equitable and integrated learning experience. Universities as centers of higher education need to adopt solutions using IoT technology to overcome problems in the context of Ubiquitous Learning. Purpose. The purpose of this research is to identify solutions that can be adopted by universities to overcome Internet of Things problems in the context of Ubiquitous Learning. Method. This research uses a quantitative methodology with a survey method approach. A total of 30 students were randomly selected as samples to provide adequate representation. The data analysis technique uses the Miles Huberman technique, involving the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. A questionnaire was developed to explore students’ perceptions and experiences regarding the use of IoT in the learning process. Results. From the analysis results, the majority of students show a good understanding of IoT concepts and are actively involved in learning using this technology. Although some face obstacles, the majority of respondents believe that the use of IoT can increase learning effectiveness and really hope that there will be increased student engagement through IoT technology. These results provide a strong basis for developing better implementation strategies, encouraging universities to continue to innovate in integrating IoT technology to improve student learning experiences in the future.   Conclusion. Universities are advised to continue to innovate, integrating IoT strategically to improve the student learning experience. This shows the significant impact of IoT in designing the future of learning in higher education.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to know the student’s difficulties in reading comprehension, to know how the difficulties in reading occur, and to know why the difficulties in reading comprehension occur. The research used a qualitative descriptive method to describe the detail of students' difficulties in reading comprehension. To find out the result of the analysis that had been conducted and to describe the student's difficulties, the instrument the researcher used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The data sources were obtained from the second graders of Attawfikiyah Islamiyah School. The result showed that the students have difficulties finding the meaning of the words because their mastery of vocabulary is lacking. The students are difficulty also to get the main idea of the text. Thus, the students become do not like reading English texts and also difficult to answer the question of the reading text exercise. The next result from observation showed that there was a lack of facilities in supporting the teaching and learning process, especially for reading material. It can be concluded that the student’s difficulties in reading comprehension can occur when they lack English vocabulary, do not know the effective techniques in reading text, and lack facilities for the teaching and learning process.
