Abstract

ABSTRACT Preoperative anxiety is a common response experienced by patients before undergoing surgical procedures. High levels of anxiety can negatively impact anesthesia processes and postoperative recovery. One effort that can be made to reduce anxiety is by providing preoperative education. This study aims to determine the effect of preoperative education on the anxiety level of preoperative patients in the operating room at RSUD Jampang Kulon. The research design used was a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 32 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The instrument used to measure anxiety levels was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, which showed a significant result with a p-value of 0.000 (p 0.05). This indicates a decrease in anxiety levels after the provision of preoperative education. Therefore, it can be concluded that preoperative education has a significant effect in reducing patients’ anxiety before surgery. Preoperative education should be part of the standard pre-surgical care to enhance patients’ preparedness and comfort. Keywords: Preoperative Education, Anxiety, Preoperative Patients  ABSTRAK Kecemasan preoperatif merupakan respons umum yang sering dialami pasien sebelum menjalani tindakan pembedahan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus require optimal self-care management abilities to prevent long-term complications and maintain their quality of life. However, preliminary findings at RSI Assyifa indicated that several patients were not yet able to perform self-care consistently, particularly in regulating diet, monitoring blood glucose levels, engaging in physical activity, adhering to medication therapy, and performing foot care. This study aimed to determine the effect of e-booklet–based education on self-care management among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at RSI Assyifa Sukabumi. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group model, involving 36 respondents divided into an intervention group (n = 18) and a control group (n = 18), selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test indicated that all data were not normally distributed (p = 0.001). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in self-care management between the intervention and control groups after the e-booklet–based education was provided (p = 0.001), with a mean rank of 26.14 for the intervention group and 10.86 for the control group. These findings demonstrate that e-booklet–based education is effective in improving self-care management among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Structured, clear, and easily accessible digital educational media help enhance patients’ understanding and independence in managing chronic conditions. Keywords: E-Booklet–Based Education, Self-Care Management, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, SDSCA.

Abstract

Pain is a common clinical problem that can be managed through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, including progressive muscle relaxation. This study aimed to examine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation technique on pain among patients in the Fatmawati Ward of RSUD Sekarwangi. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted involving 25 respondents selected through purposive sampling, consisting of patients experiencing mild to moderate pain. Progressive muscle relaxation was administered once daily for approximately 15–20 minutes over the intervention period. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that prior to the intervention, most patients experienced moderate pain (84%), while after the intervention all patients (100%) reported mild pain. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in pain levels before and after the intervention (p = 0.001; < 0.05). These findings indicate that progressive muscle relaxation is effective in reducing pain among hospitalized patients. This technique can be considered a complementary nursing intervention in hospital pain management, and future studies are recommended to involve larger samples, control groups, and longer follow-up periods to evaluate its long-term effectiveness and broader clinical applications.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the 30-degree and 45-degree Semi-Fowler positions on respiratory rate in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). The method used was a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-post test. The results showed a significant effect (p-value 0.000) in the second position. Respiratory rate in the 30-degree position decreased from an average of 25 to 22 breaths/minute, while in the 45-degree position, the decrease was more effective, from 26 to 21 breaths/minute. The 45-degree position proved more optimal in reducing shortness of breath because it maximizes the force of gravity to reduce pressure on abdominal organs against the diaphragm, resulting in maximum lung expansion. In conclusion, the 45-degree Semi-Fowler position is more effective in stabilizing respiratory rate in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis than the 30-degree position.   Keywords: Respiratory Rate, Breathing Pattern, Semi-Fowler, Pulmonary TB
