Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem experienced by adolescent girls, especially due to blood loss during menstruation which causes a decrease in hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Hemoglobin is an important protein in red blood cells that functions to transport oxygen from the lungs to all body tissues. Lack of hemoglobin can disrupt body function and potentially cause the risk of ongoing mental complications. This study aims to identify differences in hemoglobin (Hb) levels before (pre) and after (post) menstruation among female students of the Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program at Poltekkes Kemenkes Kupang. The research method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study consisted of 30 female students who were taken using random sampling techniques. Hemoglobin levels were measured twice, namely on the first day of menstruation and after the last day of menstruation, using a POCT (Point of Care Testing) tool that provides fast and practical results. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test because the data obtained were not normally distributed. The results of the study showed a significant decrease in hemoglobin levels after menstruation. Before menstruation, the average Hb level was recorded at 12,847 g/dL, while after menstruation it decreased to 11,273 g/dL. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significance value of 0,000 (p < 0,05), which indicated a significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after menstruation.

Abstract

Enterobiasis is an infectious disease caused by Oxyuris vermicularis (Enterobius vermicularis) or pinworms and is a non-STH (non-Soil Transmitted Helminth) intestinal worm that can move from one individual to another without the need for transmission through the soil and is widespread in children and toddlers. In Indonesia, the prevalence of Enterobiasis is quite high, this is because Indonesia is a country with a tropical climate, high temperature, humidity, social economic factors and poor sanitation, making it suitable for the development of pinworms. Children with poor hygiene behavior (PHBS), such as rarely changing underwear, and not washing hands after the toilet are at risk of contracting pinworms. Children who live around the coast still have a lack of knowledge of the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and also a lack of knowledge about the dangers of helminthiasis and the examination and treatment of helminthiasis. The method used in this study is descriptive. Respondents in this study included 24 people with the number of female respondents at 54% and men at 46%. The results of Enterobius vermicularis examination in children aged 3-9 years living in the coastal area of Lasiana beach obtained 21% of children positive for enterobiasis and 79% of children negative for Enterobiasis. The level of parental knowledge, environmental sanitation conditions, and children's personal hygiene is pretty good

Abstract

Abstrak: Penyakit infeksi seperti kecacingan, demam berdarah dengue (DBD), dan kutu kepala masih menjadi masalah kesehatan pada anak usia sekolah dasar. Guru memiliki peran penting sebagai agen edukasi dalam upaya pencegahan penyakit tersebut di lingkungan sekolah. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan guru SDN Bone Kecamatan Nekamese terkait pencegahan kecacingan, DBD, dan kutu kepala. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui dua tahapan, yaitu ceramah dan praktikum. Evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan desain pretest dan posttest sebelum dan sesudah pemberian materi, baik teori maupun praktik, dengan menggunakan aplikasi Google Form. Peserta kegiatan berjumlah delapan orang guru. Hasil pretest menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan awal guru masih bervariasi, terutama pada materi DBD, langkah cuci tangan yang benar, serta pencegahan kutu kepala. Setelah dilakukan intervensi, hasil posttest menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan yang signifikan, di mana seluruh peserta (100%) mampu menjawab dengan benar seluruh pertanyaan yang diberikan. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi kesehatan melalui metode ceramah dan praktikum efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan guru mengenai pencegahan penyakit infeksi pada anak usia sekolah. Diharapkan peningkatan pengetahuan ini dapat diterapkan dan disebarluaskan kepada siswa serta orang tua guna mendukung upaya promotif dan preventif kesehatan di sekolah.   Abstract: Infectious diseases such as helminthiasis, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), and head lice infestation remain public health problems among elementary school–aged children. Teachers play an important role as health education agents in preventing these diseases within the school environment. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of teachers at SDN Bone, Nekamese District, regarding the prevention of helminthiasis, DHF, and head lice infestation. The activity was conducted in two stages, namely lectures and practical sessions. Evaluation was carried out using a pre-test and post-test design before and after the delivery of theoretical and practical materials through Google Forms. The participants consisted of eight teachers. The pre-test results indicated varying levels of baseline knowledge, particularly regarding dengue prevention, proper handwashing steps, and head lice prevention. After the intervention, the post-test results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with all participants (100%) correctly answering all questions. This activity demonstrates that health education using lecture and practical methods is effective in improving teachers’ knowledge of infectious disease prevention among school-aged children. It is expected that the improved knowledge will be applied and disseminated to students and parents to support promotive and preventive health efforts in schools.
