Abstract

Memorizing the Qur’an is a spiritual endeavor that is noble yet filled with significant challenges. Many Qur’an memorizers face various obstacles throughout this journey. This study investigates the role of social support in fostering resilience among Qur'an memorizers who simultaneously fulfill dual roles as students. Conducted with 180 santri from five pondok pesantren in Central Java, aged 15-19, the study adopts a non-experimental quantitative design. Findings indicate that emotional support (β=0.306, p < 0.01) and informational support (β=0.237, p < 0.01) significantly predict resilience, while instrumental support does not (β=0.154, p > 0.05). Adding companionship increased the explained variance of resilience to 42.7% (R²=0.427, F(1,175) = 9.730, p < 0.001). These findings underscoring the importance of peer support, guidance from kyai (religious mentors), and a supportive environment in sustaining the challenging process of Qur’an memorization. This study implies that for Qur'an memorizers, resilience is strengthened by companionship, guidance, and emotional support, which collectively enable them to navigate the spiritual and academic challenges of their journey.

Abstract

Santri who attend school and simultaneously memorize the Quran in Pondok Pesantren face greater challenges than their peers. This study explores the forms of social support that can improve the resilience of santri who memorize the Quran. This study used a non-experimental quantitative approach involving 180 students in five Islamic boarding schools in Central Java. Hypothesis testing was conducted using Hierarchical Linear Regression. The results showed that emotional support (β=0.306, p<0.01) and informational support (β=0.237, p<0.01) significantly predicted resilience, while instrumental support did not (β=0.154, p>0.05). Furthermore, social support in the form of friendship increased students' resilience to 42.7% (R²=0.427, F(1,175)=9.730, p<0.001). These findings demonstrate the importance of peer support, guidance from religious teachers (kyai), and a supportive environment in the process of memorizing the Quran. This study shows that for Quran memorizers, resilience is strengthened through togetherness, guidance, and emotional support that collectively enable them to face spiritual and academic challenges.

Abstract

Menghafal al-Qur’an bukanlah perjalanan singkat, melainkan proses panjang yang menuntut komitmen, ketangguhan dan kesabaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman hafiz (santri yang menghafal al-Qur’an) yang tidak mengikuti pendidikan formal dan tidak menggunakan fasilitas modern seperti telepon genggam atau kendaraan pribadi, namun tetap mampu menjaga konsistensi dalam menghafal al-Qur’an. Fokus penelitian ini adalah pada grit, yaitu semangat dan ketekunan yang terus terjaga dalam mengejar tujuan hidup yang bermakna. Pendekatan fenomenologi kualitatif digunakan untuk menggali makna pengalaman para hafiz melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi di lingkungan pesantren. Partisipan sejumlah tujuh hafiz dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive dan data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam serta dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik fenomenologis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa grit hafiz tumbuh dari perpaduan antara motivasi spiritual, kemampuan regulasi diri, serta dukungan moral dan sosial di lingkungan pesantren. Keterbatasan justru dimaknai sebagai latihan kesabaran dan pembentukan karakter. Temuan ini memperluas pemahaman tentang grit dalam konteks Pendidikan dimana ketekunan tidak hanya lahir dari kemauan pribadi (willpower), tetapi juga dari kekuatan iman dan makna hidup (faithpower). Temuan ini memberikan wawasan penting tentang pengembangan ketangguhan mental dan karakter dalam pendidikan, khususnya di lingkungan pesantren.
