Abstract

BackgroundAtherosclerosis, the underlying cause of heart attack, stroke and peripheral disease, is a main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia are independent factors in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. The atherosclerotic index (AI) is a strong indicator of cardiovascular heart disease. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between lipid serum level and AI in subjects 50-70 years of age. Methods A study of cross-sectional design was conducted among male and female subjects 50-70 years of age. The inclusion criteria were: healthy, and capable of active communication. The exclusion criteria were: subjects not completing the study, currently consuming antihyperlipidemic drugs. Lipid profile comprising total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides, and malondialdehyde (MDA), was analyzed using commercial kits. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and body mass index was measured in all subjects. Atherogenic index was calculated from (total cholesterol – HDL cholesterol) / HDL cholesterol. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the data. Results Mean age of the subjects was 60.6 ± 3.30 years and there was a significant relationship of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides with AI (b=0.009; p=0.000 and b=0.008; p=0.000, respectively). Triglyceride level was the most influencing factor for AI (b=0.008; Beta=0.616; p=0.000)ConclusionsHigher triglyceride levels increase AI in subjects 50-70 years of age. Subjects with high serum triglyceride level but without symptoms of cardiovascular disease should be examined for the development of coronary artery blockage.

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals have prioritized ending the epidemic of tuberculosis by 2030.(1) Around one-third of the world population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTBC), but is asymptomatic, a conditon known as latent TB.According to the global tuberculosis report, in 2017 there were 5-15% of 1.7 billion  persons infected with MTBC, who will develop TB in their lives. Around 10% of latent TB will develop into active TB disease, with a higher risk in patients with immunodeficiencies such as HIV, undernutrition, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and habitual alcohol consumption. As a result there are annually an estimated 8.8 million new TB cases, with a TB mortality of 1.1 million and deaths from TB and HIV coinfection of 350 thousand cases. The World Health Organization has planned a number of strategies for TB elimination in the year 2030, such as developing rapid and accurate diagnostic tests, new regimens for the treatment of drug-susceptible or drug-resistant TB, prevention of transmission of M. tuberculosis through infection control, new vaccine candidates to prevent the development of TB, and to help improve the outcomes of treatment for TB disease.

Abstract

Heart is a very complex organ. In the heart, communication between myocyte was conducted through gap junction canal. This canal is formed by 2 hemichannels, connexon, and each connexon consists of 6 molecules of connexin. Gap junction canal maintain the conduction of electrical impulse and the ion and small solute is transferred within this canal. Communications between myocyte is affected by the interaction between connexin and other protein, e.g. phosphatase, kinase, structural protein (zona occludens-1) and microtubule. In this paper, the main protein of myocyte’s gap junction, connexin43, will be discussed regarding the structure and regulation in the communication between myocyte.

Abstract

Abstract

Depression is a mental disorder characterized by mood disturbances and loss of interest in life activities for a long period. Depression can affect all aspects of life, including relationships within family, friends or communities that can cause problems in life and work. An estimated 3.8% of the world's population or equivalent to 280 million people in the world experience depression, with a higher incidence in women than men. The incidence of depression can reduce productivity and quality of life, even to the point of causing suicidal tendencies. Due to the severity of the complications that can arise, several things need to be done to overcome depression, one of which is by doing acupressure. Community Service Activities (PKM) were carried out on 69 respondents using the counseling method and measuring the knowledge of each participant with a questionnaire and training was carried out to overcome depression with acupressure. The results of the level of knowledge regarding the causes, symptoms and how to overcome depression obtained before the counseling were good knowledge 36%, sufficient 51%, and lacking 13%. After the counseling, an increase in the level of knowledge regarding the causes, symptoms and how to overcome depression was obtained, namely good knowledge 70%, sufficient 23%, and lacking 7%.

Abstract

BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on lives all around the world. Indonesia implemented physical distancing and lockdown to prevent the spread of this virus. However, without realising it, the implementation of these rules can have a negative effect on physical and mental health, including stress. In a study of 113.285 people conducted in China, India, Spain, Italy, and Iran, stress was found to be prevalent in 53% of the population. Sudden changes in lifestyle (physical distancing and lockdown) can lead to less physical activity and poor sleep quality, both of which can lead to stress. Physical activity and sleep quality in the context of stress give inconsistent results. Therefore, researchers are interested in examining the correlation between physical activity and sleep quality with the incidence of stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS This study was using a cross-sectional approach and the subject of this study were teachers. In this study, physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form, sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale. The data obtained was analysed using the chi-square and kolmogorov-smirnov test with a significance limit <0.05. RESULTS Based on the data obtained from this study, it can be concluded that 54.1% subjects have a moderate physical activity, 90.2% subjects have a poor sleep quality, and 60.7% subjects have a mild stress level. Statistical analysis between physical activity and stress obtained p = 1.0 and between sleep quality and stress obtained p=0.883. CONCLUSIONS According to the study's findings, there is no statistically significant correlation between physical activity and stress, and there is no correlation between sleep quality and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Background Most countries around the world suffered from the high-level transmission COVID-19. Thus, the government enforced a policy for the citizens to work from home. These restrictions impact the mental health of the citizens, and the prevalence of stress increases. Some of the factors that affect stress are magnesium intake and physical fitness. The study found that magnesium levels and fitness are correlated with stress levels. But some studies got different results. Thus, learning more about the relationship between magnesium level, fitness, and stress level is necessary. Methods This is a cross-sectional design study with consecutive non-random sampling methods. This study involving online drivers was held in Kampus B, Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Trisakti, in September 2022. The inclusion criteria are aged 15-64 years, willing to sign the informed consent, can communicate well, while the exclusion criteria are in the therapy of anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drugs, and has a history of heart attack within one month. Results Based on the data, it can be concluded that most respondents are male, from the middle-aged group, and suffer from obesity, and about 50% of the respondents suffer from high blood pressure. Most respondents have normal blood-magnesium levels and medium levels of stress, while all the respondents have poor or very poor physical fitness. On the Chi-square test between age, sex, body mass index, blood pressure, physical fitness and stress level, the level of significance consecutively are 0.645; 0.208; 0.364; 0.451 and 1.000. While on the Fisher test, the significance level between blood magnesium level and stress level is 0.099. Conclusions Based on the bivariate test, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between age, sex, body mass index, blood pressure, physical fitness and blood magnesium level with the stress level.

Abstract

Coronavirus infection disease (COVID-19) is a disease caused by the Sars-Cov2 virus and the first case was found in the city of Wuhan, China and then rapidly transmitted to other countries all over the world. On March 2020, World Health Organization (WHO) declared this disease as a pandemic. Until now, there are 232.468.228 cases and 4.759.804 death worldwide. This virus had mutated and there are some variants of virus that found during this pandemic with variety of symptoms. Regardless the high morbidity rate of this virus, this pandemic also had effect on the economy sector. Hence, many countries started to give permission to companies to start their activity normally. The incremental activities of the workers with higher mobility rate can cause the higher transmission rate of this disease. Therefor, it is very important to educate the people, especially the workers, about the implementation of health protocol in order to prevent transmission of this disease between workers in the workplace or between worker and their family at home. health protocol, transmission, worker, mask
