Abstract

The increasing number of deaths and the rising risk of complications underscore the importance of managing and controlling hypertension. Knowledge and adherence to hypertension management are crucial factors in controlling blood pressure and its complications. Patient compliance in managing hypertension is vital to prevent potentially fatal complications. However, insufficient knowledge about prevention can impact adherence levels. This study aims to explore the relationship between hypertension knowledge and adherence to complication prevention among hypertensive patients in Cimanggung Village. This was quantitative observational analytic research with a cross-sectional approach involving 95 respondents in Cimanggung Village. The sampling technique used proportional random sampling method. The research instruments used are the hypertension knowledge level scale questionnaire and the hypertension complication prevention adherence questionnaire. The Spearman-Rank statistical test resulted in a p-value of 0.023 (p<0.05), indicating that there is a relationship between knowledge and compliance with hypertension complication prevention. Better knowledge about hypertension correlates with improved adherence to complication prevention measures. The majority of respondents have good knowledge and are mostly adherent to complication prevention measures. Increasing knowledge is expected to enhance patients' compliance in adhering to treatment and preventing complications. The suggestion of this research is to conduct a directed and sustainable education program to the people of Cimanggung Village about the importance of managing hypertension and preventing its complications

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major challenge worldwide, both in developed and developing countries, and is the leading contributor to non-communicable disease-related deaths. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of finger grip relaxation therapy on blood pressure in pre-elderly individuals with hypertension in Licin Village. The research employs a quantitative method with a Pre-Experimental One Group Pre-post test design. It was conducted by first observing the variables before the intervention, and then measuring them again after the intervention using a sphygmomanometer. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 10 respondents who met the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that the average systolic blood pressure decreased by 10.00 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure decreased by 5.00 mmHg after the intervention. Based on the t-Test, a significant value of 0.000 was obtained for systolic blood pressure and 0.008 for diastolic blood pressure, leading to the conclusion that finger grip relaxation therapy effectively lowers blood pressure in pre-elderly individuals with hypertension in Licin Village. It is hoped that respondents will continue to practice finger grip relaxation therapy in accordance with the guidelines provided during the research, namely in a relaxed state while taking deep breaths twice a day in the morning and evening for five consecutive days.
