Abstract

This study is entitled “Illocutionary Acts in the Movie Entitled All the Bright Places. Two problems of study are formulated, specifically types of illocutionary acts used in the dialogue of the main characters in All the Bright Places movie and the context of situations used in the dialogue of the main characters in All the Bright Places Movie. The script of All the Bright Places movie served as the research data resource. This study used observation methods and note taking as a technique of collecting data. The steps of collecting data were to watch the movie, read the dialogue script in order to find the types of illocutionary acts and context of the situations of All the Bright Places movie, grouping the types of illocutionary acts and context of situations that were found in the movie script based on Searle’s (1979:12) theory and Leech’s (1983:6) theory. The findings show five types of illocutionary acts found in the dialogue of the main characters in All the Bright Places movie. From the analysis, there are data of representative illocutionary acts, data of directive illocutionary acts, data of expressive illocutionary acts, data of commissive illocutionary acts, and declarative illocutionary acts is not appearing any single time in the script of All the Bright Places movie. The purpose of context of situations is to consider the situational factors such as the speaker, the listener, the setting, and the cultural background, in order to accurately interpret the meaning of illocutionary acts in conversation.

Abstract

This research focused the code-switching that appeared in the video "ANATOLY: PSIKOPAT RUSIA yang OBSESI sama.... | #NERROR" by youtuber Nessie Judges. The purpose of this study was to determine the types of code-switching the reasons of code-switching was used in the video. The types were intra sentential code-switching, inter sentential code-switching, and tag switching. The theory applied in this study was Hoffman's theory, and the descriptive qualitative method used to collect the data, which included documentation and note taking. The result were eight data categorized into intra-sentential code switching, one data belonged to inter-sentential code switching, and four data in tag switching. Furthermore, the reason of using code-switching were talking about a specific topic, interjection, intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor, and expressing group identity.

Abstract

In community, people may use different language variation accordance with their age, gender, education, profession, ethnic origin, etc. (Holmes, 2013). The purpose of this study was to examine the linguistic features, derivation, and function of languages ​​used by homosexual and bisexual men in Bali, Indonesia. In identifying the linguistic features of gay language, the researcher analyzed the data taken from the respondents from their simulation and list of gay words. The important role of creativity and language skills can be developed and enhanced through frequent use of language. The impact on gay language use is to create identities for gay communities, develop self-expression, provide exclusive spaces through obfuscation, and find their own comfort zones. language. The study also found that gay language serves many functions for their communities. These features included being a secret language, a community identity, a language that conveys similarities and a sense of belonging to community members. Homosexual language also served to show humor, helping people speak in a more friendly and fun way.
