Abstract

Teaching English as foreign language to Indonesia learners is rather difficult. It can be seen from most of learners who graduated from university, they cannot use English as their language for communication; written or spoken communication. In addition, Most of teachers use traditional method or strategy that focuses on teacher or teacher center. So, students are not only active in joining the class but also feel bored. Dealing with this problem, the teachers must change their teaching from teacher center to learner center. Furthermore, teaching productive skill; writing and speaking, the teacher must use the suitable strategy to achieve goal of teaching and learning process. VARK (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic) which is developed by Neil Fleming in 1987 is one of the strategies which can be used to teach productive skill, because it invites learners more active in joining the class. It also helps learners in understanding the materials easily.

Abstract

Hadrah al-Mahabah Wali Songo is a form of traditional Islamic art with a unique characteristic. Its uniqueness lies in the lyrics of the salawat or syi'iran that are performed, which differ from the usual hadrah because they were composed directly by Kyai Kholil As'ad Samsul Arifin, the caretaker of the Walisongo Islamic boarding school in Situbondo. His compositions, which carry very profound meanings to praise the Prophet, have received very positive responses from the community. Researchers have found the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in the salawat performed by the Hadrah al-Mahabah group. One example is in the lyrics of the salawat "Muhammad Memang Sempurna" ("Muhammad is indeed perfect"). Therefore, this study aims to critically analyze the occurrence of code-switching and code-mixing in the lyrics of the salawat "Muhammad Memang Sempurna" by the Hadrah al-Mahabah Walisongo group. Using qualitative descriptive research and text content analysis, the study found one type of code-switching and code-mixing in these lyrics. The causes for these linguistic phenomena are attributed to both internal and external factors.

Abstract

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that impairs the ability to read and comprehend written information normally. This study aims to examine the application of a multisensory approach in the learning process of dyslexic students at SLB N Bugih Pamekasan. A qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic media, along with individualized teaching strategies, effectively enhances students’ learning motivation, active engagement, and comprehension. Teachers actively adapt instructional methods according to each student’s pace and needs. The success of this approach is supported by parental involvement in home learning, teacher training on multisensory techniques, and the availability of supportive classroom facilities. However, challenges include limited appropriate media and aids, as well as insufficient understanding among some teachers regarding dyslexia characteristics. This study emphasizes the importance of developing multisensory teaching modules, ongoing teacher training, and expanding research to other schools. Furthermore, it recommends longitudinal studies and the utilization of digital technology as multisensory learning strategies to strengthen inclusive education responsive to the needs of dyslexic students.
