Abstract

The management of waste at the UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi Campus is an enormous concern, and a large amount of waste, particularly plastic waste, continues to wind up into landfills. The aim of this research is to use Participatory Action Research (PAR) methods to determine how much plastic trash is generated and whether ecobricks have the potential to help reduce plastic waste. By engaging the academic community in campus waste management through empowerment, capacity building, active participation, and shared experience, this service activity seeks to strengthen the collaboration of the stakeholders involved. It is based on the PAR method, which emphasizes two ideas: action and participation. According on the preliminary mapping findings, it was discovered that plastic accounted for the third-highest percentage of garbage generation—18.86%—followed by plastic bottles—11.45%—of the total waste produced in a day. The second stage involves doing a strategy analysis and concluding with a socialization program for creating ecobricks, which serves as the foundation for change action. One of the best and most environmentally beneficial waste processing techniques is the incorporation of plastic waste management into ecobricks, particularly when combined with a PAR strategy that actively incorporates all campus stakeholders

Abstract

This research study how the Malay and Javanese tribes in Bukit Peranginan Village, Mandiangin District, and Sarolangun Regency use medicinal plants. The purpose to identify the various types of medicinal plants, how to use them, and their cultural significance. This study used a qualitative descriptive methodology, and the value of the Cultural of Significance Index (ICS) was derived for the quantitative data analysis. The results showed that there were 25 families and 37 plant species overall, with Zingiberaceae being the largest family. For the Malays and the Javanese, up to 8 species of plants and 21 different types of plants, respectively, have leaves that are frequently used as medicine. Boiling up to 21 different plant species is the primary method of using plants as medication. The importance of preserving the cultural properties of plants used by the Malay and Javanese tribes in Bukit Peranginan Village as traditional medicines, particularly Curcuma longa L, which has values of 171 and is used as a treatment for ulcers, cholesterol, colds, vaginal discharge, diabetes, wound medicine, abdominal pain, and postpartum pain.

Abstract

Background: Water bodies are highly susceptible to contamination from various sources, including domestic, agricultural, and industrial waste. These contaminants often introduce pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp., which pose significant risks to human and animal health. Despite this, bacteria also play a vital role in supporting aquatic ecosystems by facilitating the decomposition of organic matter. Methodology: This study was conducted with the objective of isolating and characterizing bacterial species present in the waters of Campus A Lake. Sampling was carried out by collecting water from several points within the lake. Bacterial isolation was performed using the serial dilution technique, followed by inoculation on Nutrient Agar (NA) media and incubation at 37 °C for 24 hours. The characterization phase included morphological observation of colonies, Gram staining, and biochemical tests such as oxidase reactions. Findings: The study successfully isolated three distinct bacterial colonies. One isolate exhibited a rod-shaped (bacillus) morphology, while the remaining two showed a spherical (coccus) form. All isolates tested Gram-negative, evidenced by the pink coloration after staining. Importantly, most of the isolates demonstrated an ability to break down organic material, indicating their usefulness in environmental cleanup. Additionally, the introduction of Eco Enzyme into lake water positively influenced the microbial ecosystem by promoting the growth of beneficial decomposers like Bacillus sp. and Lactobacillus sp., while simultaneously suppressing pathogenic bacteria. Contribution: These findings provide valuable insight for future water quality management and the development of effective, eco-friendly bioremediation strategies.

Abstract

Kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui pelatihan pembuatan ecoprint ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dan kreativitas masyarakat Desa Pulau Raman melalui pelatihan pembuatan batik ecoprint teknik pounding sebagai upaya pengembangan ekonomi kreatif berbasis potensi lokal. Desa Pulau Raman memiliki potensi sumber daya yang tinggi berupa berbagai jenis tumbuhan yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pewarna alami, namun belum dikelola secara optimal karena adanya keterbatasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam mengoptimalkan sumber daya yang ada. Metode kegiatan meliputi survei lokasi dan identifikasi tanaman potensial, edukasi mengenai ecoprint, serta pelatihan praktik pembuatan batik ecoprint menggunakan media tote bag. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 11 Oktober 2025 dengan melibatkan 16 peserta yang didominasi ibu rumah tangga. Tanaman yang digunakan antara lain daun pepaya jepang (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius), daun sirih merah (Piper crocatum), daun kelor (Moringa oleifera), dan daun pakis (Thelypteris sp.). Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa sebelum pelatihan sebagian besar peserta belum mengetahui teknik pembuatan batik ecoprint dan jenis kain yang digunakan, di mana hanya 25% peserta yang memahami teknik tersebut. Setelah pelatihan, peserta mampu mempraktikkan proses pembuatan ecoprint mulai dari pemilihan dan pemilahan daun yang memiliki pewarna alami, penyusunan motif, teknik pounding, hingga proses fiksasi menggunakan tawas. Pelatihan ini memberikan peningkatan keterampilan dan kreatifitas masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan sumber daya lokal menjadi produk kreatif bernilai ekonomi dan ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan ini menjadi alternatif pengembangan usaha kreatif masyarakat desa yang berkelanjutan
