Abstract

Corn is a key food sector that plays an important role in boosting the economy in Indonesia. Madura, as one of the largest corn-producing regions in East Java, continues to strive for corn self-sufficiency through the provision of superior corn seeds. PT. Giri Agro Raya Sejahtera (PT. GARS) is an agricultural company in Madura that produces high-quality corn seeds of the Madura-3 variety. As a newly established company, PT. GARS still faces limitations in its risk planning. The company has experienced several unexpected events related to its operational system, resulting in losses. The aim of this study is to identify sources of risk and analyze the level of risk at PT. GARS. The research methods used are the Fishbone Diagram and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). The data were obtained through interviews with key informants, consisting of one company director, one processing manager, one marketing manager, and one marketing staff member. Based on the fishbone diagram, five types of risks were identified: (1) human resource risks, including occupational health and safety as well as human behavior; (2) production risks, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting; (3) technological risks, consisting of equipment availability and technological mastery; (4) process risks, which involve seed processing and seed quality testing; and (5) external risks, including weather, pest and disease attacks, competitors, and distribution. Based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN), two sources of risk with high risk levels are process risks in seed processing and external risks, particularly unpredictable weather.

Abstract

Chicken Gendut Farm is a farm that focuses on breeding broiler chickens. During the production period, this farm had the most significant problems, such as disease attacks, poor-quality Day-Old Chicken (DOC), and extreme weather that could cause death in chickens. This study aims to 1) Identify sources of production risk at Chicken Gendut Farm, 2) Analyse the level of production risk opportunities, risk impacts, and risk maps, and 3) Formulate appropriate risk handling strategies for Chicken Gendut Farm. The data analysis methods used were Fishbone analysis, Z-Score, and Value at Risk (VaR). The results showed that Chicken Gendut Farm identified sources of production risk caused by internal and external business factors. Risk mapping shows four risks in quadrant I: poor air or temperature in the cage, disease attack, extremely hot weather, and poor DOC quality. Risk management strategies that Chicken Gendut Farm can carry out are preventive strategies, such as increasing worker discipline in cage management, separating sick chickens, maintaining cage cleanliness, limiting access in and out of the cage, and spraying disinfectant spray for people who enter the cage.

Abstract

Food security is one of the development focuses of the Indonesian government. One of the important commodities in food crop commodities is soybean. The level of soybean imports in Indonesia is still very high. In the last five years, the average volume of soybeans imported by Indonesia is 6.88 million tons per year. The rate of imports must be suppressed immediately, namely by providing local soybeans. One of the soybean centers in Bangkalan Regency is Galis District which is the sub-district with the highest soybean production, but the trend of soybean production shows a decline, this indicates a problem with the soybean agribusiness system. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze dryland soybean farming in Galis District with an agribusiness system approach. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, namely by analyzing dryland soybean farming with an agribusiness system approach consisting of upstream, farming, downstream subsystems, and supporting institutions. The results showed that in the upstream subsystem, the agricultural inputs used were wilis soybean seeds, TSP fertilizer, Urea, KCl, and NPK, Hopsin 50 EC insecticide, and agricultural machinery. The farming process consists of land preparation, planting, embroidery, seeding, fertilizing, and harvesting. Post-harvest handling is only done by drying and stripping the epidermis, after which it is distributed to middlemen and sellers who will later be marketed to Pasar Atom, Surabaya, and Sepuluh District, Bangkalan.

Abstract

An increasing amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) affects the planet and people. As a primary contributor to climate change, CO2 has been a subject of discussion among researchers. Many have been studying the complex relationship and impact of CO2. However, a study examining the influence of increased CO2 emissions on human subjective well-being is limited. This study aims to fill the gap by utilizing a sample of 9,724 Southeast Asians from the Seventh World Values Survey (2017-2021). Well-being is measured using a subjective approach, such as happiness and life satisfaction. The ordered probit regression analysis indicates that increased per capita CO2 emissions decrease happiness and life satisfaction. Additionally, the higher individuals' financial and health levels, the higher their relationship with their happiness and life satisfaction will be. This study encourages further research investigating a specific country's relationship between CO2 emissions and the well-being of its population.

Abstract

Introduction: This study examines the food consumption patterns and food security status of corn farming households in Paterongan Village, Galis Subdistrict, Bangkalan Regency, Madura Island, Indonesia. The research is conducted within the context of the low food security levels in Indonesia, despite the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2015. Paterongan Village serves as an interesting case study due to its high corn production but also a high poverty rate, which raises concerns regarding household-level food security. This study aims to identify the factors influencing food security among corn farmers in the area. Methods: This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach, collecting data through interviews and questionnaires with 76 female corn farmers. The 24-hour food recall technique was applied to assess food consumption patterns and calculate the Household Dietary Diversity Score (HDDS). Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify the factors influencing food security. Results: The findings indicate that the food consumption patterns are relatively limited in diversity, with most households primarily consuming cereals, vegetables, oils, legumes, and fish. The average HDDS score is 7.1, with 67% of households classified as food insecure. Conclusion: The logistic regression analysis identified education level, household income, and the utilization of home gardens as significant factors that improve food security.
