Abstract

An increasing amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) affects the planet and people. As a primary contributor to climate change, CO2 has been a subject of discussion among researchers. Many have been studying the complex relationship and impact of CO2. However, a study examining the influence of increased CO2 emissions on human subjective well-being is limited. This study aims to fill the gap by utilizing a sample of 9,724 Southeast Asians from the Seventh World Values Survey (2017-2021). Well-being is measured using a subjective approach, such as happiness and life satisfaction. The ordered probit regression analysis indicates that increased per capita CO2 emissions decrease happiness and life satisfaction. Additionally, the higher individuals' financial and health levels, the higher their relationship with their happiness and life satisfaction will be. This study encourages further research investigating a specific country's relationship between CO2 emissions and the well-being of its population.

Abstract

Introduction: This study examines the food consumption patterns and food security status of corn farming households in Paterongan Village, Galis Subdistrict, Bangkalan Regency, Madura Island, Indonesia. The research is conducted within the context of the low food security levels in Indonesia, despite the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2015. Paterongan Village serves as an interesting case study due to its high corn production but also a high poverty rate, which raises concerns regarding household-level food security. This study aims to identify the factors influencing food security among corn farmers in the area. Methods: This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach, collecting data through interviews and questionnaires with 76 female corn farmers. The 24-hour food recall technique was applied to assess food consumption patterns and calculate the Household Dietary Diversity Score (HDDS). Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify the factors influencing food security. Results: The findings indicate that the food consumption patterns are relatively limited in diversity, with most households primarily consuming cereals, vegetables, oils, legumes, and fish. The average HDDS score is 7.1, with 67% of households classified as food insecure. Conclusion: The logistic regression analysis identified education level, household income, and the utilization of home gardens as significant factors that improve food security.

Data were collected using structured interviews with farmers and marketing institutions. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The marketing channels are formed into four channels, and each marketing institution carries out marketing functions that include transportation, packaging, and storage. Some channels show high marketing efficiency values mathematically, but the farmer’s share received by farmers remains low, this indicates an imbalance in the distribution of profits between marketing actors

Abstract

Climate change presents a global challenge with significant implications for livelihood sustainability, particularly in coastal communities. This study explores fishermen's perceptions of climate change and its impacts on their livelihoods in Bangkalan Regency, Madura Island, Indonesia, a region where communities are directly affected through altered weather patterns, rising sea temperatures, and disrupted fishery ecosystems. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected from 94 fishermen in Banyusangkah Village, Tanjungbumi Sub-district, selected via simple random sampling. The Weighted Average Index (WAI) method was used to analyze perceptions. The results indicate a high level of awareness among fishermen regarding certain climate phenomena, such as increased sea temperatures and the frequency of heavy rainfall, which they perceive as directly affecting fish catches and fishing safety. However, awareness of slower-onset, long-term impacts, such as tidal flooding and coastal erosion, remains low. These findings underscore the critical need for targeted educational outreach and policy interventions designed to foster community-based adaptation strategies, thereby enhancing the resilience of fishing communities in the face of increasingly uncertain environmental changes.
