Abstract

Media in the process of learning English is very important. In this study, this was evidenced by a needs analysis of 11 students and 1 English teacher in class X for students majoring in Visual Communication Design. This study aims to determine the needs of students and also to know the results of the development of instructional media on descriptive text material. This study used several ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) models to obtain results using observation instruments and unstructured interviews. It uses steps including (1) needs analysis, (2) product design, (3) development, (4) implementation (5) evaluation. The research subjects were 11 students of class X Visual Communication Design at Darul Huda Vocational School. The limitation of this research is developing spinning wheel and flash card learning media on descriptive text material for class X students majoring in Visual Communication Design. Researchers get valid results in two aspects and one very valid result. For very valid results in terms of total language (85%) and for 2 valid aspects are content (80%) and media (75%) and are suitable for use as learning media in descriptive text material. According to the satisfaction questionnaire about this product, the percentage of about 40% agreed and 60% strongly agreed. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a dictionary of hospitality terms as an e-book reading. The reason behind the development of this product is that hospitality terms in a foreign language are very important to be learned and understood by students majoring in hospitality accommodation. The lack of students' knowledge about the meaning of hospitality terms and the absence of specific learning media to learn the meaning of hospitality terms, made researchers interested in developing a dictionary of hospitality terms in the form of an e-book to make it easier for students in understand foreign hospitality terms. This development research uses the ADDIE model. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire. Questionnaires were distributed to 30 class XI students majoring in hospitality accommodation (XI APH 3) at SMKN 3 Kota Blitar. The findings show that students' evaluation of the existence of a dictionary of hospitality terms in the form of an e-book received a positive response. This dictionary of hospitality terms made them more enthusiastic. They would use this dictionary of hospitality terms again to learn the meaning of hospitality terms. This dictionary can be learned and used by students majoring in hospitality accommodation at all levels. Keywords:  Dictionary; Hospitality Terms; Media Development

Abstract

This research aims to describe the process and results the development of comic strip media for teaching reading skills in explanatory text material. The research subjects were 10 students of class XI MA Assalam jambewangi. The development procedure refers to the ADDIE model. Observation techniques, questionnaires and observations were used as information gathering in the preliminary study. Meanwhile, to determine the feasibility of comic strip products, researchers used a questionnaire instrument given to content and media experts. Then a student response questionnaire was conducted to determine the level of student satisfaction with the media. According to the content expert's assessment, a score of 88% was obtained in the very good category. From media experts, a score of 98% was obtained which was classified in the very Good category. In addition, the results of the student response questionnaire also scored 79% in the good category. Based on the overall assessment, the development of comic strip learning media on giving and asking for information themed explanatory text material for class XI students was declared valid and suitable for use teaching and learning activities in the School.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, English is one of the subjects that students must comprehend to follow and adapt to society. However, in Indonesia the English introduction and fundamental education that pupils receive in elementary and kindergarten are still poor. This research leads to the developing of a Fun Pop-Up book for kindergarten pupils at RA Perwanida Sumberjati. The researchers analyzed the requirements of kindergarten students by observing and interviewing them to determine their study habits. The results assisted the researchers in determining the types of media that could attract pupils'' attention. In this research, the researchers develop a book in the form fun pop-up book to improve kindergarten pupils'' English mastery. Therefore, the researchers use Research and Development (R&D) as a research design. The development procedure used in the research is the ten steps Borg & Gall development model. The result of the media validation score obtained a value of 97.5% for the Very "Valid category" and "Very Valid" categories, with a validation value of 92.5% obtained from material validation. This percentage indicates that this Fun Pop-Up Book for Teaching English in Kindergarten is effective.
