Abstract

The use of the BI 7 days repo rate as a new benchmark rate replacing the BI rate, raises hopes that the transmission of monetary policy in Indonesia can run faster and more effectively. This study uses monthly time series data for the period August 2016-December 2018, using the Vector Autoregression (VAR) analysis. The results show that the transmission of monetary policy through the interest rate and asset price channels has been effective, while the transmission of monetary policy through the exchange rate channel has not been effective in driving economic growth in Indonesia. The decline in the benchmark interest rate can be responded quickly by interbank money market interest rates, banking interest rates, stock prices, and output. The exchange rate can also respond quickly to changes in interest rates, but changes in the exchange rate have not been able to influence net exports and increase output.

Abstract

This research is to identifies determinants of waiting period to get a job for graduates of the Development Economics Study Program. The research variables include the waiting period is Cumulative Achievement Index (GPA), Toefl score, Organization and Training. This research uses multiple linear regression analysis tools. The results of the research show that the Toefl and Training scores negatively affected the waiting period. This means that if the Toefl and Training score increases, it will shorten the waiting period for graduates to get a job. While the GPA and the Organization have no effect on the waiting period for graduates to get a job.

Abstract

Food has always been a strategic topic in development at both the global and national levels, because fulfilling food is a right for every citizen whose quantity and quality must be guaranteed in a safe and nutritious manner. The main problem in realizing food security in Indonesia today is related to the growth in demand for food which is faster than the growth in supply. This research aims to find out the influence of food security determinants in the provinces of Java and Sumatra Islands in 2019-2022. By using secondary data and panel regression,Fixed Effect Model is the best model chosen to be used in this research. Partially, rice land productivity, population and agricultural labor have a significant effect on food security in the provinces of Java and Sumatra Islands. Together or simultaneously the variables of rice land productivity, population and agricultural labor have an influence on food security. There is a need for efforts and an active role from the government and society in optimizing the implementation of policies related to the protection of agriculture and human resources in order to maintain sustainable food security.

Abstract

This study analyzes air pollution concentration and its determinants in ten countries with the highest levels of air pollution from 2010 to 2020. Air pollution has become a global issue affecting both human health and the environment. The study uses secondary data and applies two analytical tools: a concentration index to identify countries with the highest air pollution levels, and panel data regression to analyze its determinants. Air pollution is proxied by CO2 emissions. The results indicate that eight out of ten countries have a concentration index greater than one, with Japan, South Korea, and Germany ranking as the top three countries with the highest air pollution concentrations. The population variable has a positive and significant impact on air pollution concentration in these countries. Conversely, the energy consumption variable has a negative and significant effect on air pollution concentration. On the other hand, economic growth does not have a significant effect on air pollution concentration. The study's implications highlight the need for a transition to more efficient and renewable energy sources as a crucial step in reducing the negative impacts of air pollution. Stricter environmental policies and increased investments in eco-friendly technologies are highly recommended to address this issue

Abstract

General Background: Development and environmental sustainability are interdependent components of national progress. Specific Background: Environmentally inclusive development emphasizes the wise, planned, and sustainable use of resources to enhance quality of life. Knowledge Gap: However, the interplay between income inequality, inclusive economic development, and environmental quality remains underexplored in the Indonesian context. Aim: This study investigates the dynamic relationship between income inequality, inclusive development, and environmental quality across Indonesia’s 34 provinces. Results: The findings reveal a bidirectional negative relationship: inclusive economic development significantly reduces income inequality, while lower income inequality promotes more inclusive development. Novelty: This research provides empirical evidence on the reciprocal nature of inequality and inclusivity within a sustainability framework, contributing to a deeper understanding of socio-environmental policy integration in developing economies. Implications: The results underscore the importance of implementing inclusive and environmentally aware development strategies as a means to address inequality and enhance long-term sustainability outcomes. Highlights: Highlights the reciprocal relationship between inequality and inclusive development. Provides empirical evidence from 34 Indonesian provinces. Emphasizes the role of sustainability in equitable economic growth. Keywords: Income Inequality, Inclusive Development, Environmental Quality, Sustainable Development

Abstract

This study analyzes the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and their determinants in 25 Asian countries from 2015 to 2021. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas produced by human activities, such as fossil fuel combustion. The study utilizes secondary data and employs two analytical tools: the concentration index, which identifies countries with the highest CO2 emissions, and panel data regression to analyze its determinants. The findings reveal that 13 out of 25 countries have a concentration index greater than one, with Japan, Russia, and Azerbaijan ranking as the top three countries with the highest CO2 emission concentrations, while Vietnam has the lowest concentration index, with a value of less than one. The variables of oil consumption, natural gas consumption, coal consumption, and population size have a positive and significant effect on CO2 emissions in the 25 Asian countries. On the other hand, economic growth does not have a significant impact on CO2 emissions. These findings highlight the urgency of implementing energy transition policies in high-emission countries as a strategic measure to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Furthermore, the development of population-based policies oriented toward sustainability is deemed crucial to effectively reducing carbon emissions across the Asian region.

Abstract

Rice plays an important role in the economic, social, and political stability of ASEAN. The presence of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 shows that market integration in ASEAN is becoming more real. The objective of this study is to analyze trends in rice imports and exports in ASEAN, integration of rice markets, causality relationships, and impulse response based on rice prices in the ASEAN. Data used include annual data on import and export of rice from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam in 2000-2021 as well as monthly data on rice price in 2017.1 - 2021.12. The methods used are trend analysis, Johansen cointegration test, Vector Autoregression (VAR) estimate with Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), Granger causality test, and impulse response analysis. The result is that the trend pattern of rice imports in Indonesia tends to decrease, while the trend of imports to Malaysia and the Philippines as well as exports to Thailand and Vietnam rises every year. There is integration of the rice market in ASEAN as well as a pattern of coherent and reciprocal inter-national causal relations. Keywords: rice, market integration, ASEAN and VECM
