Abstract

Kadyatmikan, a core aspect of Balinese spiritual teachings, is a secondary modeling system that offers guidance toward spiritual balance and moksa (liberation) through practices such as self-control, meditation, and harmony with nature. This study investigates the meaning of Kadyatmikan in the Tutur Tegesing Wisik Warah text, through Yuri Lotman's (1990) cultural semiotics framework. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this research identified and analyzed the symbolic elements and spiritual codes within the text. A heuristic reading method was applied to uncover surface-level meanings, such as narrative structures and linguistic features, and connotative reading to explore deeper symbolic and cultural interpretations. The analysis focused on the interaction of these elements with the Balinese cultural semiosphere. The findings highlight the symbolic relevance of teachings like Sad Ripu and Yoga (meditative practices), demonstrating their role in fostering self-realization and cultural identity. Discussion emphasizes the dual function of these teachings: preserving Balinese spiritual values and addressing contemporary challenges through cultural adaptability. The research contributes to empirical studies of cultural semiotics and conceptual explorations of traditional wisdom in modern contexts

Abstract

Kidung Rangsang Pelog (KRP) is a literary work in the form of a kidung containing the ideology of rana yadnya. KRP was written by Ida Padanda Made Sidemen, a great Balinese author of the 20th century. This literary work was born at the request of Ida Cokorda Puri Satria Denpasar (Puri Agung Denpasar). KRP as a whole contains the events of Puputan Badung and leadership teachings. This study aims to reveal the ideology of rana yadnya in the KRP text using Michael Riffaterre's semiotic theory. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. The data collection stage was carried out using the listening method with the basic technique of free involvement. The method and technique of data analysis used is the descriptive analytical method. The method and technique of presenting the results of the data analysis used is the informal deductive-inductive method. The results of the data analysis show that through heuristic and hermeneutic reading of the KRP text, several topics were found related to the ideology of rana yadnya 'war as a sincere sacrifice', namely, a knight who masters the science of bravery against the enemy, the nature of being born as a knight, the struggle of the Badung army against the Dutch, the obligation to fight for a knight. The ideology of rana yadnya 'war as a sincere sacrifice' was inserted by the text producer through the description of the Puputan Badung story and leadership teachings in the KRP text. The ideology of rana yadnya in the KRP text is intended as a reminder of the nature of being a knight and a record of the struggle of ancestors so that a knight does not hesitate to fight to defend the honor and sovereignty of the nation.

Abstract

A previous study was conducted on types of clauses or sentences in Bahasa Indonesia. This study attempted to focus more on the clauses constructed by a single argument in BI. The data were collected from BI speakers, literature, and the researchers' intuition as BI speakers. Data analysis was implemented using a descriptive method. The results found that BI has several clauses, such as intransitive, antipassive, stative, and passive. However, BI owns no non-stative and split transitive clauses. It can be shown that affixes in BI play a significant role in determining types of construction, particularly in the passive. As one of the agglutinative languages, BI shows its property, in which affixed occurred.
