Abstract

Introduction: Heat-polymerized acrylic resin is the most basic denture material used. One of the mechanical properties of an acrylic resin is its transverse strength. The transverse strength test provides an overview of the material’s durability in accepting the load at mastication. Consumption of tea, especially black tea in the world placed the second most consumed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of black tea on the transverse strength of heat-polymerized acrylic resin. Methods: This research was an experimental laboratory with 24 samples of heat-polymerized acrylic resin plate with the size of 65x10x2.5 mm. The sample was divided into 6 groups, each consisted of 4 samples. The first, second, and the third groups were immersed in aquadest for consecutively 1, 4, and 20 days. The fourth, fifth, and sixth groups were immersed in the black tea for consecutively 1, 4, and 20 days. The transverse strength was tested using the three-point bending method with the Universal Testing Machine. The results of the transverse strength measurement were then analyzed statistically by the One-way ANOVA test and Holm’s sequential Bonferroni posthoc test as an advanced test. Results: The results of the statistical test showed that p<0.05 (p=0.000) which means that the six groups have a significant difference in the average value of the transverse strength. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research was the black tea immersion duration was affecting the transverse strength differences of the heat-polymerized acrylic resin.

Abstract

Pengukuran tingkat depresi, anxiety, dan stres dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner Anxiety, sedangkan penilaian bruxism menggunakan kuesioner modifikasi Daniel E. Paesani (Bruxism, Theory, and Practice) dan Winocur E (Self-reported bruxism association with perceived stress, motivation for control, dental anxiety and gagging).

Abstract

Abstract

Mentawai ethnic group has unique traditions like anterior teeth mutilation and the use of herbal medicines by sikerei or siaggai laggek (traditional doctor) that cause low visitation to community health centers. The low level of puskesmas utilization rate impacts the failure to achieve the work program of the puskesmas in improving public health status, especially oral health, then influences the quality of health center services (puskesmas). This activity aims to increase community visits and the utilization of health services in Puskesmas Muara Siberut. This activity lasted on July 21, 2023, and was carried out in Muntei Village (work area of the Puskesmas Muara Siberut), South Siberut District, Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra Province. This service uses four methods: observation, planning, action, and evaluation. The results obtained from this activity were an increase in public knowledge regarding ideal behavior in increasing motivation to utilize dental and oral health services at the Muara Siberut Community Health Center through post-test scores at the end of the counseling session. With this service activity, it is hoped that the attitudes and actions of the oral health utilization will increase significantly, along with the high level of public knowledge after being given counseling, so that it will also have an impact in improving the degree of oral health communities

Abstract

Introduction: The correct determination of proper occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) is an important step that must be concerned by the dentist in dental treatment procedures. There are varieties of the method to establish OVD such as anthropometric measurements of OVD and length of little finger (LLF). This study was aimed to analyse the correlation between the occlusal vertical dimension with the length of little finger in Indonesian subraces such as Deutro-Malay, Proto-Malay, and Indonesian Chinese subraces. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 336 dentate subjects comprising of 168 males and 168 females with an age range between 20-35 years old with no little finger deformity. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. Anthropometric measurement of OVD and LLF were recorded clinically using a digital vernier calliper. Correlation between OVD and LLF was analysed using the Pearson correlation. Results: Result of the statistical test showed that the OVD was significantly (p=0.000) and positively correlated with LLF, and showed a strong correlation (r=0.779) in Indonesian subraces. Conclusion: There is a correlation between occlusal vertical dimension measurement and the length of little finger in Indonesian subraces.
