Abstract

The paper reports the result of an investigation on the effectiveness of afterschool program management in Taiwan that was conducted in the Yonglin Hope School through an in-depth investigation consisting of observations, interviews and questionnaire. The involved participants were the director of Institute for Disadvantaged Students’ Learning (IDSL), Yonglin Foundation, school principal, social workers, and tutors. This study found five main factors that contribute toward the effectiveness of afterschool program management in Yonglin Hope School, namely setting specific goals, having professional development and training, continuous evaluation, class sizes and designed curriculum. In addition, the effectiveness of the afterschool program was supported by five main activities (i.e., remedial teaching, homework assistance, English summer camp, special event and field trips) to improve the students’ knowledge and experience. Furthermore, it was also supported by an integrated and interconnected role of different stakeholders (i.e., Yonglin Foundation, Institute for Disadvantaged Students’ Learning, school principals, social workers and tutors) who played an important role to make this program being success. Importantly, tutors as the main actor played the most important role to improve students’ achievements.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the principal leadership styles of Christian religious secondary schools in Indonesia. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach. The informants in the study were teachers, vice principal, and school principal in a Christian religious secondary school. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, the data was analyzed using deductive thematic analysis, and its validity was checked using triangulation. The study results showed that the principal implemented five leadership styles in a Christian religious secondary school: paternalistic, charismatic, servant, transformational, and autocratic. This study indicates that leadership styles are urgently needed to improve Christian religious education quality; however, they are still limited in the literature. Therefore, the Ministry of Religion Affairs, particularly the Directorate General for Christian Community Guidance, should create a concise policy on leadership competency for Christian religious school principals. Furthermore, each principal in Christian religious schools should carry out various leadership styles properly to enhance management and leadership practices in their educational organizations.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji apakah budaya organisasi, kepemimpinan melayani berpengaruh signfikan terhadap kinerja dosen. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis regresi berganda. Data diperoleh dengan menyebarkan angket google form online yang diisi oleh dosen secara sukarela yang terdiri beberapa strata pendidikan, masa kerja dan jabatan fungsional. Dengan jumlah sampel 32 orang yang dengan teknik stratified purposive sampling. Kemudian, data diolah secara deskriptif kuantitatif untuk melihat kecenderungan hasil setiap variabel. Selanjutnya, hasil data diolah menggunakan analisis regresi berganda dengan aplikasi SPPS 22. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa kinerja dosen di IAKN Tarutung masuk ke dalam kategori kinerja yang tinggi. Akan tetapi, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa budaya organisasi dan kepemimpinan melayani tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap hasil kinerja dosen yang tinggi tersebut. Artinya, budaya organisasi dan kepemimpinan melayani yang ada di IAKN Tarutung tidak serta merta menunjang kinerja dosen. Oleh karena itu, perlu penelitian lebih lanjut terkait variabel lain yang lebih signifikan untuk menunjang kinerja dosen. The Influence of organizational culture, servant leadership on the performance of lecturers at Tarutung State Institute of Christianity This study aims to test whether organizational culture and service leadership have a significant effect on lecturer performance. This study uses a quantitative approach with multiple regression analysis. Data was obtained by distributing online Google form questionnaires filled out by voluntary lecturers consisting of several educational strata, tenure, and functional positions. With a total sample of 32 people using a stratified purposive sampling technique. Then, the data is processed descriptively quantitatively to see the tendency of the results of each variable. Furthermore, the data results were processed using multiple regression analysis with the SPPS 22 application. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the performance of lecturers at IAKN Tarutung falls into the high-performance category. However, the results of this study indicate that organizational culture and servant leadership do not have a significant influence on the results of the high performance of lecturers. This means that the organizational culture and servant leadership that exist in IAKN Tarutung do not necessarily support the performance of lecturers. Therefore, further research is needed related to other variables that are more significant to support lecturer performance.

Abstract

Prestasi mahasiswa berdampak terhadap akreditasi perguruan tinggi. Prestasi mahasiswa diepengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor termasuk keaktifan berorganiasi dan kepemimpinan diri. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini bertujuan menguji apakah keaktifan berorganisasi, kepemimpinan diri berhubungan positif dengan prestasi akademik mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Data diperoleh dengan menyebarkan angket google form online.. Kemudian, data diolah secara deskriptif kuantitatif untuk melihat kecendrungan hasil setiap variabel. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa keaktifan berorganisasi, kepemimpinan diri, prestasi akademik masuk kategori yang tinggi. Selanjutnya, hasil analisis korelasi menemukan bahwa keaktifan berorganisasi memiliki hubungan positif dengan kepemimpinan diri pada kategori sedang (0,052); keaktifan berorganisasi memiliki hubungan positif dengan prestasi akademik pada kategori sedang (0,046). Namun berbeda dengan kepemimpinan diri yang memiliki hubungan negatif dengan prestasi akademik yang sempurna (-1). Hal ini terjadi banyak faktor lain yang memengaruhi prestasi akademik. Meskipun demikian, hasil wawancara dengan beberapa partisipan justru menyatakan sebaliknya bahwa kepemimpinan diri berdampak positif terhadap prestasi akademik mereka.
